I have not had much luck catching bass during the cold months. I have been able to catch a few Pike and Pickerel using a Red Devil Spoon. I fished near bridge#1 Its the bridge near feather island. Another spot is by peerces plantation. Its kinda hard to fish good spots without a boat. Let me know if you catch anything Good luck and Welcome aboard. This site is Great!! There are lots of helpful people here.

I haven't fished Loch Raven for years, but if I were to fish it in the colder months, I would fish the bridge[ north side] at Dulaney valley road. Probably abot 10 to 20 yards just north of the bridge, there is old bridge pilings and chunks of large concrete, and it is deep. Try that area....easy to get to also.

Good to hear they are bitting
How deep did you find them and do you know what the water temp was?

Fished Loch Raven from 6:30 AM until 11:00 AM yesterday, 05/22/2005. Mostly hit up the coves North of the Dulaney Valley bridge. Fishing was good, 5 bass including one that was about 3-4 pounds. Lost another 3, user error. Landed one pike and pickerel too. Mostly used 5" senkos, green pumpkin with a chartreuse tail landed most of them. I tried several different colors, chartruese and white (0 hits), grey and black (2 hits), black and gold (0 hits), but it was the green pumpkin that started hitting them (the other 6 hits). Didn't switch to green pumpkin and chartruese until around 9:30, wish I did it sooner. Anyone else fish here recently?

ive been out almost every day for the past week and it seems like anything natural colored has been working. ive mainly been using watermelon colored crayfish and YUM wooly hawgs, but a small pumpkinseed worm with a chartruse tail has caught me a couple too. also had some luck with a chartruse spinnerbait(silver blades) but no luck with any cranks yet. thanks for the help with the senkos
(did u fish them wieghtless?)

I had no lusk today at LR. I rented a boat it was my first time being on the water there. I fished for hours with no luck I tried several coves and such just nothing biting for me at all. i did see 2 bass caught the whole time i was there. I had one on a yamamoto senk in green/ brown. I used a spook, several spinners and other worms including punpkin/chartruse tail . I lost a ton of works and hooks in deep cover.

Cory, I did fish the senko's weightless when I went a couple of weeks ago. I don't think I'm going to be able to get out there for a couple more weeks though.
Ben - Sorry you didn't have any luck at Loch Raven. Did you Texas rig the worms. Should be able to get it through most of the cover if you bury the hook.

sorry to hear about your bad luck ben. i've been having a lot of luck with a texas rigged watermelon color 3 inch plastic crayfish in the cove to the right as you leave the fishing center. went out today and caught a 5 pound hawg and a 2 pounder in that cove along with a few pickerel.
anyone tried any topwater yet

I have tried some top waters in Loch Raven in past years, and do not seem to do too well on them. I've tried the spook, baby, and tiny torpedo's from Heddon, as well as a rebel pop'r, only thing I've hit anything on was the black tiny torpedo very early in the morning. I've always seemed to do better with something just below the water column, but it seems everytime I do go out it is very sunny. That usually will put them lower.

went out a few days ago and caught 12 nice bass(alll bigger that 2 pound except 1). first 2 were in the cove to the right of the fishing center, 2 big ones on the south side of the island, and 8 nice ones in a cove way back past the golf course. ive still been doin really well on the pumpkinseed/chart. zoom worms, YUM woolly hawgtail in watermelon color, and zoom 4' crawfish in watermelon. my buddy also caught a few on a sliver shad color crankbait and a baby bass crankbait.

I have not fished in any tournaments at Loch Raven. The couple that I heard about last year from the bait shop, were they were from some local fishing clubs, closed to the public. If you do hear of any, I would love to enter into one of them.

Late posting this fishing report.
06/25 - hot day, very
- temp got up 95
water temp - 77-82
Tough day out there, fished 6:00 AM - 11:00 AM. I stayed in the shaded water almost the entire day. Managed to land 4 bass, all around 1.5-2.5 pounds in the first hour on green pumpkin with a chartreuse tail Yum senko, 5". After that the bite stopped around 8:00 AM but the bass were active.
I saw several huge bass cruising the flats. From the likes that I saw, the first two I saw were around 5 pounds a piece. The rest I saw were good sized, but was very shocked when I saw those 2 together cruising around. Caught alot of bass out of here, but never anything over 4 pounds. I threw everything at them, cranks, spinners, buzz bait, senkos, lizards, grubs. I fished the plastics weightless, with a jig head, and with a 1/8 ounce carolina rigged. I couldn't seem to get them to do anything except turn around and look, then go back to cruising around. They seem to have been actively feeding, but weren't interested on anything I had.
Anyone else see bass cruising around the flats. These are the flats located North of the Dulaney Valley Bridge road, on the East shore by all the sunken timber. This is the area by the end of August will have very heavy forage all the way to the surface, and it is starting to grow rapidly now.

I fished Loch Raven yesterday evening near Warren Point. Between my four buddies and i, we produced 6 Largemouths between 12 and 15 inches on Texas and Carolina rigged worms and crawfish, one even came on a buzz bait in the shallows. The weather was hot and calm with bright sunshine. Most of the fish came from deep water, not sure how deep, we were shore fishing.

Good luck and good fishing. C-ya on the lake.
