went fishing with the girlfriend yesterday for about an hour, took all of 4 casts between the teaching her to cast and untangling knots so needless to say no fish. headed back out today alone and fished along the golf course and caught 2 with the bigger one going about 2.5 lbs in about a hour and  a half. both on a blue/white rapala x-rap, saw 3 fish cruising along together in the shallows-first bass ive seen shallow this year

Fished the loch today from 6am-1pm and got 8 bass all ranging from 1-2.5lbs....got 'em all on tubes on rocky shorelines and laydowns, with the bites being very soft and hard to detect...water temp at sunrise was 54deg and at noon was 58deg.....saw some bigger males cruisen the shallows but werent interested in anything i threw at 'em.  gonna be out again fri, hopefully with the warm air today they'll turn on a little more....looking forward to 30-40 fish days in the upcoming weeks!!!

tried my luck again today from 6-12pm, caught 10 bass and missed about 5 others..still not biting very hard.., all on plastics and all very shallow....still waiting for that aggressive bite to start. Another boat with friends on mine in it got 13 bass, i think mainly on plastics as well, including a nice 4lber........i had a 3+lb fish next to the boat but my line snapped as i was attempting to land 'em  ~xyz....forgot to check my line for fray's after i had a toothy critter on..figures.....  or it could be my shotty knots as my buddy said...  oh well...............hopefully by next week the big mothers will be up and biting.

hey I have been to loch raven a few times, but haven't had much success only maybe 4-5 bass over a 1 lb or two. I live in gaithersburg, md about an hr away and would be willing to pay for boat rental or pay someone with a boat who knows the reservoir well? Please email me at jleefan@gmail.com if anyone is interested.

fanjoo-  right now the bite is very slo...you gotta fish hard to find em...fish cranks and tubes on main lake point grass beds in 15-20ft of water....you'll definately get a few fish, with a good shot at some 3+lbs..the 5lbers are there but they are gonna be tough to come by until the fall...

i dont have a boat..and have learned most of the reservoir just by renting and exploring, also ive learned a ton from people on ultimate bass....rentals are 32bux for boat, motor and extra battery...i definately would invest in a portable depth finder as well....

haha i know. I was there this weekend and the last. It was thunderstorming pretty bad around 430 am when we left the house. I have been told many times to fish the ends of the weedbeds with gray or pumpkin tubes. Problem is I don't always know which beds to fish and exactly how to position the boat to maximize effectiveness. It was hard to fish points this weekend cause there was a boat on everyone of em. I have a portable depth finder Eagle Cuda..it works pretty well..but am still new to using depth finders. I know I am looking supposed to be looking for underwater humps and such but think I would learn a lot faster if I had someone more experienced out there with me. how often do you go out there? would you ever be interested in fishing with me. I would pay for rental fee.

i fished august 09 . Mainly kept to the first tribituary are and fished bleeding spinnerbaits, crawbugs and crankbaits. Let the crankbaits bounce off the rocks and it draws strikes. colorado blades work well when the fish won't bite, and make lots of vibration in the water. the craw bug is so life-like the fish go crazy over it. The smell and salt is an extra attractant.

Hi Kobi, guess we are all getting tired of the winter and frequenting here only makes it more painful...   :'(

But yes, I am looking forward to the Spring.  I can't wait to get out on the Potomac and Loch Raven.  Two best fisheries in Maryland  :)

Right outside of the cove where you launch at, in the middle of the lake, and I mean dead in the center there is a hump that comes up off of the bottom, out in the river channel.... I catch them good there in the spring on purple rable rousers. ;D

Think I'm going to head out tomorrow to try my luck shore fishing.  I usually fish the East side of the Warren road bridge or West side of the Dulaney Valley bridge.  Anyone else do any shore fishing?

i used to do alot of shore fishing at LR before i got my canoe. two seasons ago i caught a 10 pound northern pike right near the warren/merrymans bridge off that big laydown that is still there.  Got him on a 5" money minnow on a rainy day at sundown.  That spot is good only at the right time because it is average only 5-8 ft deep around there unless the reservoir is high it might get up to 10 ft.  they are either there, or they're not. I have caught some 3+ lb bass around that shoreline also.  If you're going around the springtime, i have done well around the first large cove you get to if you walk from the east side of the dulaney valley bridge towards the center of the reservoir. its about a 4-5 min hike south from the bridge. i always take a few casts every 50 yds down that shoreline as i am walking and seem to catch a few on senkos and spinnerbaits.  There are usually some large bluegill spawning beds around that cove around may that attracts a lot of bass.  i usually get em on spinnerbaits and swimbaits that closely resemble a bluegill or baitfish.

Gracias, I appreciate the tips.  I'm guessing it's still a little too cold considering there was still ice on the reservoir and I didn't get a single nibble.  Oh well, there's always next week.
