Just saw one of my neighbors out in his boat. The bass are biting. I'm not sure what he's using. I'm also not so sure he's keeping within the slot limits because I haven't seen many of them get spared from the cooler.

(edit)
I should also add he was fishing some pads scattered in fairly calm water around 4 or 5pm. I think he was fishing with soft plastics, but I could be wrong.

Went to Cross today from 1 to 6. Caught 17, 6 overs, 5 slots, the rest keepers. Used lizards,  ribbets, jigs, senkos, and spinnerbaits. No big fish. All overs were between 4.5 and 3 lbs. Fished trees,Hyacine, lillly pads 2 to 4 feet of water. Had a good time. See you on the water.

So much for my theory that when gar are around, bass aren't. I caught a nice 4lb bass off our pier. I was throwing my buzz bait to try to snag the gar. Then I slowed it down with a Renosky sonic swing minnow #5. The bass took 'er right off a cypress and landed it after a good fight. I guess the bass was big enough that the gar didn't spook it off. Unfortunately, my shades didn't fare too well. I stepped on them by accident when I was handling the fish. No worries though cause they were only $5 wally world shades. I didn't see anyone else out here catch anything all day. I still wanna lay into a gar. I just hope one doesn't ^-^ my reel or the lure.

Nice fish floater...about the gar...never caught one like this but have heard about folks using a heavy unwould nilon line to catch gar..just tie in the middle of about a foot or so of nilon and spread out the cords...not hooks...the nilon hangs in their teeth when they strike it..

Night Fishing Tournament.....I believe there was a night fishing club on Cross last year...Does anyone have any info on that?

Thanks,
Scottie

I've caught gar on buzzbait, torpedos, and jitterbugs. One pulled the front right off a jitterbug one time. My bro caught one on a banjo minnow. They bend the heck out of the metal no matter what it is. I just love how they thrash.

As for the night tournaments, I haven't got a clue. I only know about the Thursday tournaments. I've never entered, but you can tell when it's on because boats are all over back in here. There are some posts about when that starts up again a few pages back.

RattlinScottie, if you go to the Louisiana Fishing information board Mike Noble has put up some good info. Usually the Cross Lake Thursday Evening Tournaments start the first Thursday after the time change, but I haven't heard yet. Travis Marine usually has the info as well :-*

And by the way, just in case anyone is thinking about "night" tournaments on Cross.  Not really possible.  There is a Shreveport law that states you can't be within 100 feet of a boat dock after sunset and everyone is required to be off the lake by 1:00 a.m.  Sort of makes it tough to fish out there at night.

Caught a gar on a rattle trap on Toledo Bend several years ago.  Was fishing for schooling bass.  I had made a long cast and made a few cranks and bam! The gar would have gone close to 10 lb., so the battle was on.  You can imagine what was going through my mind as I was fighting it to the boat - yep, new TB record - or close to it.  Pretty disappointed when I got it to the boat - but what a fight.

Are there any maps of Cross lake?  I hear lots of areas referenced, but not sure where they are without a map.  Anybody know where I can pick one up?
Thanks ,

I don't think I've ever seen one.  If they exist, they hide pretty well.
