Saw something the other night I hope I never see again and I want to share it with all of you that use boats for fishing. Went fishing on a lake in southern Kentucky. I launched my boat and was heading out slowly when my partner turned on the VHF-FM radio and we immediately received a weather alert. A line of severe storms were bearing down on us . I turned around and headed back to the ramp...as we were coming into the ramp there were boats on the way in behind us. My partner got the trailer, we loaded and started out. The first gust hit just as we got to the top of the ramp so I pulled over and parked. I do not know what the wind speed was but my truck was really rocking...no rain really yet...just intense wind. From where we sat we could see the lake and the ramp. There were three boats that we could see. A pontoon, a runabout and a bassboat. What I saw next I would never have believed if I hasn't seen it. The pontoon had no chance to get to the ramp...it just spun around and went with the wind...the runabout stopped and was getting blown as well...but the bass boat tried to make it in...he moved maybe 50 yards forward directly into the wind and then turned sideways to the wind and aimed at the ramp...he was bow up...and looked like he was bringing on the power...I tell you...in a split second...the next thing we saw was his prop...the wind flipped him over so fast I don't remember seeing it. We both jumped out of the truck...and got blasted by the wind...but made it to the shore...we saw two people in life jackets surface...the bad part was...there wasn't anything we could do to help them...they were swimming and didn't look injured from what I could tell. We waited at the shore while the guys were still working into shore...the runabout went into the wind past them...and came back with the wind at their back...as they got to the guys they were throwing life jackets and seat cushions to the guys...then one of the guys in the runabout tossed an anchor...it must have grabbed and the runabout stopped about 30 yards from the guys in the water...we headed back to the truck and watched the guys be pulled into the boat...they pulled anchor and headed away from the ramp. I can only hope and pray that the guys were okay. Let me tell you...I have had my respect for storms re-calibrated!

Thank Goodness you were smart enough to go ahead and trailor your boat!! That is a powerful story. You started it by saying you wouldn't have believed it if you hadn't seen it, well I too have see such a powerful display of "Mother Nature". I tell you what when it comes to Mother Nature don't play around take heed and head for cover. If you don't beleive so just ask her

Ranger, if you hear anything more about them please let us know they are O.K. Hopefully their rod boxes were closed and locked so that they didn't open when the boat flipped otherwise they maybe in need of some tackle, to get back on the water again. From the experiences I know about the boat will be O.K but the motor will need some minor mechanic work to prevent future problems.

Yet another reason to were your LIFE JACKETS. Those two guys could have very easily been knocked unconsious during the flip and would have never been heard from again.

The last line you wrote in your post is interesting because that is exactly what my buddy and I were talking about on the way home. The what ifs...

What a story!!!! I do not like thunderstorms and try to avoid them at all costs. I haven't seen anything good come from one.

We usually hide under a dock until it is over but then again our thunder storms dont usually have that much wind associated with them either

I saw a big bass boat get flipped by the wind while trying to turn into the landing years ago on Toledo. Its something to keep in mind.

Hey Wildcat, we almost had a couple of boats in trouble at the last tournament. I noticed yall got out of there fairly early.
