jc~
looks like you are the first but the goal for the forum is to get all 50 states involved so it wont be long before there are people here that fish Alabama. Where do you fish?

Several lakes: lake martin, lake jordan, alabama river, coosa river, mitchell lake, lay lake and occasionally eufaula.
In my opinion, alabama has some of the best lakes in the country, especially for spotted bass. I have heard people say how hard smallmouth pull , but they cant pull as hard as a spot, just ask the pros that have fished here and hung into a 4 lb. coosa river spotted bass and they will tell you , they thought they had hooked into a freight train.

I would have to agree with you on that one. Our Home Lake (Oroville, California) had some strong fightin' spotts in it and they are a blast to catch. Kind of makes me a little home sick thinking about all the fun we had there...

jc,

I am down here in the panhandle of Florida or as we call it "Lower Alabama." We fished at Millers Ferry near Camden earlier this year and we are headed to Eufaula in October for a 2 day tournament. How well do you know Eufaula? I have never been there before and would love some help. I have fished Gantt lake in Opp numerous times and I fish Lake Seminole, actually in Georgia tons of times. If you ever need help at any of those places let me know. I am currently active duty Air Force on Eglin AFB. I look forward to talking to you. Tight Lines!

Oh yeah and by the way I have caught Largemouth, spots, coosa river spots and smallmouth (Dale Hollow Lake, Tenn) and I would have to disagree with you. The toughest fighting bass I have ever caught was an 18" smallmouth. It took me 7 minutes to get him up so we could see him. It was during the Armed Forces Team Bass Fishing Tournament. I thought it was a striper or musky. Unfortunately there was a slot limit on the lake that we had to abide by during the tournament. 16"-20" had to be thrown back. So with tears in my eyes I released him. I have caught 18" spots, largemouths, and coosa's but that smallmouth was by far the toughest bass I have ever caught. He was the only smallmouth I caught during that tournament so I couldn't compare him to other smallies. He might have been taking a banned substance. Maybe he is involved in the doping trials in California. I am looking forward to fishing Eufaula later this year and I would love to fish Lake Martin. I have always heard great things about both of them.

Scott,
I haven't been down there but once this year. But i have fished there a lot in the past. One thing I can tell you
that has always worked in late sep to oct is going all the way to northern end of lake(looks like a river instead of a lake). Find banks that have fallen trees and fish 6 inch zoom lizards as deep as you can. also big crankbaits on main river ledges . one other thing, if you find any grass left , gray colored trick worm. hope this helps.

Thanks jc! If you fish it between now and October 16-17th post a report on the Alabama section. I will look there for it. Thanks again and I'll talk to you later.
