Getting Into The Reel Repair Business
« on: November 12, 2004, 10:38:33 AM »

Connie,
when we visited your neck of the woods you said that you help people get into the Reel Repair business. I was wondering if you would tell us a little bit about what it takes to start up a business like this.

Now I know that you train folks to do this for a fee so don't go given' all those secrets away but maybe a few tips so that someone out there thinking about it might be encouraged to move on a decission to start up.

Well, now days, folks like to work at home. The disabled like to have an income, stay at home moms or dads, retirees, and sometimes folks just want something to do to help others. Fishing is a great sport and attracts the best of the best. We've had folks come to class simply because they want to be able to have tax write off by sponsoring and traveling around to various tourney's and events and offer their srvices. Besides all the above, the cost to send out reels for cleaning and repair now days is pretty pricey, learnnng how to do your own reels is a cost savings and the angler can take ownership of his own reels and  have no worry when a shop is going to get done with them or mail reels off anymore. Learning about your fishing reels is almost necessary now days also, anglers today want to know and the more they know about their equipment , the better they become.
Rod and reel repair is a fun job and can be quite rewarding also. conniek

When starting out what would you say the average start up cost would be? I would imagine that you would have to purchse some stock of the most common parts and of course take your class. Are there hidden costs, things that the average person wouldn't think of?

well, as with anything else, you can spend as much as your pockets are deep. That decision is up to the individual going into business. If they want to have a store, of course, that would cost more than a person operating out of their own home. connie

Thank you Connie!

For those of you out there that are interested in getting into the reel business Connie will have a video for sale on her site soon titled "The Reel Biz, Create your own Reel Repair Business". In the mean time you can visit Connie's website by clicking the logo above. There are tips on how to clean your reels and take care of them.

And of course you can always ask Connie herself right here on the forum. With winter upon us there are several of you that will be storing your equipment for a few months. Now is the time to clean those reels and get them ready to wait out the winter until spring gets here and you can fish again!
