$100,000 bass boat
« on: November 16, 2004, 12:14:22 PM »

Anyone read the last edition of Bassmasters?  There is a short article on a $100,000 bass boat.  Needless to say, it is loaded and has a custom paint job.  The manufacturer is talking about adding a DVD player and fax machine.

Don't you go fishing to get away from "everything"?

Just goes to show you, there's no limit to wealth these days, if you got the bucks, someone out there has the goods for you to spend it on.  I wonder how many payments behind that person is on his child support obligations?  ~shade

What's the ol' saying in this country, "If ya' don't spend it, UNCLE SAM is going to get it anyway"... All I can say at this point is: "God Bless America"  ~c~

Ok, it's gotten to the point of stupidity. 20yrs ago, dang that's showing my age, the pros fished out of 17 an 18 ft bass boats and were limited to 150 hp. They fished some of the same lakes they do today and did just as good. I promise you if they are bigger stringers it's not because they are fishing out of bigger and faster boats. Don't get me wrong 20 ft boats with the bigger motors are nice but I don't believe they are necessary. I wish some of these boat companies would start concentrating more on developing nicer mid size boats. You know putting in the nice consoles with new and improved switches and all the bells and whistles they put in the bigger boats.

Rattle,

I remember fishing out of my  :("Ranger, 343", with a max out Merc 150-XR6, that was the limit on BASS tournaments, my boat was only 16'-4" as I remember it....but it was just about as wide in the back as it was long....and we fished some big lakes with it also in the Southeast...........I guess like everything else in life, bigger is better, you never saw double cab trucks or king cabs back then either........

Actually the stringers are smaller today with a 5 fish limit verses the 10-15 fish limits of yesteryear :) I guess the higher HP are mostly for the guys making those long runs to get to unpressured fish. Things change- That being said, I hope those $100,000 boats don't become the norm :shocking: :shocking:  Nice Boat but MAN- that baby ought to have a sleeper sofa and a john-cause I'd have to live on it ;)

We as fisherman let this happen? There is a thread in here somewhere if I can find it I will list it. Or is someone knows where it is help me out. But because we buy them they will make them more expensive until we quit buying and they have to come to our price range. Unfortunately the majority of folks have that mind set Bigger is Better.

Bigger is Nicer but not necessarily better. Let's face it the pros are what drives the industry or vise versa. If you took away the big 20 to 21 footers and put them back in 17 and 18 ft boats they would do just as good. Basically you just would not make that stupid 3 hour run to fish for 2 hrs and then drive back another three. You would be forced to find fish closer and figure out what to do under pressure. They have done it for years, in fact I would be willing to bet most pros won't take that gamble of running that far to begin with. Big boats do have some advantages but again I think they are more for looks and comfort than anything else.  My biggest fear is that our young generation is growing up seeing all these big fancy boats thinking that is what they will need to go bass fishing. Once they get old enough to realize money doesn't grow on trees and these puppies cost 41k or better they will look into other ventures besides bass fishing. Down here bass fishing is slowly but surely losing popularity. It's much cheaper to hit the salt water bays in the area. For one you seldo see anyone with 15 rods and a ton of tackle, it's just not needed. You can get a new bay boat for a fraction of the cost of a bass boat and 9 out of 10 times the action is going to be hotter in salt water. Luckly I was hooked on bass fishing a long time ago so I won't be a salt water traitor to the sport. Don't get me wrong I'm not against having a big boat, in fact before it's all said and done I'll probably own one, but I just think the industry is getting waay out of hand with it.

It's not the boat that catches the fish my friend!  The two biggest bass I have ever caught ( 8.0 #'s and 9.0 #'s) were caught standing on a bank fishing a golf course pond!  I had one on that was bigger than those two, but right before he broke my 24# test line, he boke off 4" of my rod tip!

I do have a question about bass boats...
Why do they all (except of course the SeaSprite) have that HUGE metal flake in the gelcoat?

my bumble bee doesn't have metal flake in it.  i like the non-flaked finishes better.
