Safe Keys
« on: January 29, 2010, 07:20:39 PM »

Following on from Mike's keyring tip, here's a little tip of what I do to keep from loosing my car keys over the side of the boat (or anywhere for that matter).

I have a small screw/locking type carabina on my car keys, so that I can attach my keys to a solid part of the boat or to my belt loop for great peace of mind.

Something similar to this....

This tips was all about securing my keys to myself or a secure object, not about floating key chains.
However, it would be a good idea to check that your 'float' is buoyant enough to hold the amount of keys you have, which is what I think Ron is talking about  :-*

The kitchen sink or bath tub may be a better first choice for the float test......so long as the keys are the non-electric type  :-*

heheheh  ...Def try the sink first...   ~c~

I lock mine in the truck,  :-* I used to have a "spare key" lock with a door key under the fender.

Now I stepped up a little and I have the combo lock on the outside of my truck door.  Of course I guess someone could steal my truck  ::) if they broke into it and found my keys...(I have really good insurance)  ~c~

Great tip, BK! I also use a caribeaner (sp?) for my car keys.  The only time this isn't so good is when Seattle rain strikes while I'm fishing. My car keys have those fobs so I will bring a zip lock bag to protect them from the rain and have to keep them in my pocket during a deluge.

That sounds like a tip of it's own  :-* ;) ;)

Thanks for the tip.

The first thing I do when I get into the boat is put my keys and wallet inside of one of the storage compartment.
