Wow what a ride ~c~ I was into speed when I was young, still like to go fast but now around 65 is OK :-[ Back in the 70's I had a 16 ft. skeeter starfire with a 235 Evinrude that had enough mods. for about 86 mph. Had to put around 80 pounds xtra in the nose just to control the lift.   I think that would scare me now  ;D

Thanks folks,

It's took a while and emptied my wallet a couple of times....LOL

Mike,  I allways thought the Stroker would be a better "fishing" platform because of the extra length and width of the Stroker compared to the Bullet and still get the same performance.

When putting the two side by side I noticed that the Stroker is pretty much the same lenght as the Bullet.  Fit and finish of the Stroker didn't seem to be as well either.  The stroker does have a slightly bigger front deck, but the dual console of the Stroker really seemed like it would get in my way.  The rod box lids were very small.  The Bullet more than made up for the minimal deck space that was lost by being a single console and just designed better from a fishing point of veiw.

Dave,

I'm running with around 18 - 20 lbs of water pressure when really strung out.  typically around 1 1/2" above the pad and into the 90's  The faster you go the better the pressure with this lower is what I've seen.

Papa,

16ft and 235HP would scare anybody....LOL....  that was a wild ride I'm sure.  I don't think I'd try it....LOL

I have only seen on Stroker up close and it was a mean looking machine, but it wasn't what I was looking for so I really didn't get into the fishablity of it. From what you say sounds like it would have been an easy dicision with anyone.

Do you run a temp guage on your motor? Wondering if with all the extra water porting if that brought your temp way down but then the hot burning fuel brings it back up. I take it the cooling system had to be improved to handle the higher compression?

Mike,

I run a dual EGT(Exhaust Gas Temature) guage in the dash.  I put this in place of the speedo because a speedo is usually wrong or broken.   The sensors to this guage are drilled into the adapter plate just below the powerhead in the back of the moter under the lower pans.  One is drilled and tapped into each side 1,3,5 and 2,4,6 bank in the exhaust cavity to give a reading of exhaust temps right out of the motor.  I'll try and get you a pic of this to show you where these need to be drilled.  this gives me the temp of the exhaust air coming out of the motor.  You'll be able to get a little bit of a peek of it in the pics on the first page of the post looking at the dash.  It's to the right of the digital tach which is the farthest to the left.

I also am still running the OMC/BRP SLOW system too that will give me an over heat warning.

The cooling mod was actually done way before the heads.  This turns the system to more of a hi volume low pressure system than hi pressure low volume and also distributes the water better around the block to cool the cylinders period.....regardless of being stock or modified.

The dry stack (from what I understand) is done by Wayne Taylor to keep water out of the exhaust cavity to 1:  keep water out of there when you come out of the throttle as this could actually suck water back up into the motor on deceleration (his mid has no devider between water and exhaust as the stock mid does) and 2:  Upon doing this the air can leave the block free'er and faster creating a bit more HP (Wayne claims 10 - 15 depending on how good air is able to come into the motor to begin with) over stock.

Hope this answers some ?'s

Brandon.

Yeah it does thanks man. Why did you go to a digital tach? Are your RPM's that critical now? and on that note what is your red line now?

Shoot before that boat I had a 14 ft. tidecraft stick steering boat with a 125 evinrude. decided to get rid of it when one day while attempting to take a turn a little too fast ;) the steering cable (rope) broke at about 40 mph. made several end swaps and skidded into a tree. Lost a couple of rods and some tackle, had a few small contusions :'( but I just tied the rope together and went home. Never took that boat out again after my wife found out about that :-[ That is when I convinced her that the 16 ft. Skeeter would be a whole lot safer, steering wheel, and 16 ft. instead of 14 and she never asked about the engine because we put a 150 cowling on it and never told her ;D

Ok folks,

I've allways wanted a custom cowl paint job and finally decided to do this myself.  I'll do this step by step here and we'll se how it goes.

The first thing was to strip the old decals and sand the cowl with 400 to get her ready for new paint.

After she was stripped I needed a base coat of red to match the Bullet.

This is 3 Coats of PPG Bright Red.

After the red had "kicked" I sanded with 800 and applied flame graphics with fine line tape and masked the rest.

I then shot with a neutral black over the unmasked areas.....3 coats here.

After the black had kicked I sanded with 800 and masked off for a checkered flag look.  I shot this with a linen white and faded into a slate silver into a silver metal flake.  This is obviously before I shot the paint and looks alot worse than it is...LOL

This is after the final shot's of silver and removal of the tape.  This is with a sanding of 800 to smooth out the painted flames.  You can see "slightly" in this shot of the fade from white to silver in the checkered flag pattern.

After the top of the cowl was done I basically went through the same process with the pans of the cowl.....Sand, Shoot red.  I also did some decal work on the pans in white.  I added the Johnson logo on the pans and the SS logo for Short Shaft.  Now these are all painted and no vynal stickers here.  this is with 4 coats of clear and you can't feel a single line between graphics.  She may not be the best but I'm happy with her.  The next few shot's is of the cowl and pans complete on the boat.

This is the back view,  after looking at this pic I have come to the conclusion that I need to strip and paint the "225 H.O." in solid white unless ya'll think it look's okay.

From the picture it is hard to tell. There is a bit of a glare on it from the sun light but it looks like it fits right in with the color of the boat... I just cant say how great the paint job looks. How many man hours do you think it took to go from start to finish?

This is at an angle from the front and you can see very well the fade between the white(on the front) to silver(in the back) of the checkered flame's.  Thought this would be a nice custom touch as these may look lik decals but I know you can't buy them like this.....

Until next time....
