Laurie,

This took me exactly 4 days.  Well, 4 evenings.  I started this on a Sat evening and finished on Wed.  Man hours.....?????  I'll say 12 as a close estimate and cost of about $110 in paint.  I allready had most of the supplie's so paint was the biggest expense.

Do it yourself...????? sure.  If I can do it, any one can.  The up side to this paint stuff is that if you think it looks like poo poo...... you can sand it down and do it over....LOL

The cowling of our motor is really tore up after five years of wear and tear and it would be great to get a fancy paint job like that. I don't know if I could do it but I bet the guys could get it done.

I know absolutely nothing about paint or body work so please bear with me :) Is there a special kind of paint that you had to get and did you have to use a special kind of sprayer to paint with?

Laurie,

There's really no special eqiupment required her at all. I'm sure that you could get away with a very inexpensive spray gun from Lowe's or Home Depot on this.  I use a C.A.T. JAGUAR J100H HVLP gravity feed paint spray gun to gloss my fish and it's a very good  gun to shoot any other paint with.  Just what I have.....Now, Like I said, you can get  away with very simple stuff here, even cans.   You just have to know what paint is compatibale with other paint. E-mail me if your interested in a project (and that goes for all of you) and I'll be more than glad to help.

Laurie,

Yes,

(to the taxidermy on fish ?)

I've been doing that for about 6 years now.  I actually mount everything from fish to feline's but I'd say that fish is my .......eligance'.......

I love to do fish and it kills me that most taxidermist's only do top quality fish for competitions.  I will admit that I only do very limited work for friends and myself.  However, it's top quality work and will rival many other's "show" work day in and day out.   I key on filliing in ALL area's of shrinkage and fill them with epoxy to mimic the natural speciman and then follow up with a 13 - 18 color paint schedule that will mimic the "actual" fish that was cought.  Not just a carbon copy of every fish that leaves the shop.

I take pride in what I do and would expetct no less in anything that's done for me......who know's?????  military, ethic, way I was brought up thing I guess.

Well now you have my attention! I had a fish done that we caught almost 13 years ago and the man did a horrible job to start with but then we had a bit of animal damage too, a cat got to one of the fins and well, I wish we had let her go now :(

If you ever get the itch to show off some of the fish or other work that would be great photos too ;)

~c~ Great article, it has me jumping at the bit, I can't wait to get back from oversea's! I sold my boat before I left because I knew it was going to be an extended stay for me this time. I am now wondering if maybe I should buy used and work one to my liking by myself vice buying new.  After all work was said and done was it worth it?  It sure is a sharp rig! ~c~

Brandon,

Sweet rig!!! ~shade  Would love to see some of those photos of the fish mounts.  Where are you stationed and what do yo do?  What's the beam on that boat?  Does the motor still sound stock, or does it have a nice rumble to it?
