The last STNA tournament started off rather excitedly with the amount of boats that I saw at the ramp. Not to be, 13 of the boats were in a club tourney and the rest were just there to fish.
We ended up with 7 boats, 7 teams ready to hit the windy lake. The wind was so bad that there was practically no top-water bite what so ever for me anyway. The wind coming out of the southeast made my game plan go down the drain from the get go.
Plan B...that would have been a good place to start, but I never made it there. There was no boats anywhere in site so I fished a strip of thin grass newly topped out with a T-Rigged Sizmic Toad. After the gar mangled 3 of my toads, I decided to fish the last one, hoping it was a bucket mouth instead of ole needle nose. Sure enough what do I see where I
was fixing to cast? A gar, so I change directions in mid-air, one of those ugly off the wall casts.
Plllump, the toad hit the water and the fish slurped it down. I set the hook and after bringing the 2.11lb fish and 15 lbs of grass in, me and the fish were both wore out. Alright, lets go after your Buddies!!! Next cast, CHOMP. Biggest gar I have seen in a while took off with half of my last toad.

I had other colors but they really liked the one that I was out of.
I fished some other areas but no luck. I ended up with the one keeper at 2.11 but the thing that got me was that the fish was right at 15 in. That fish will be a toad some day!!!
