She didn't Mike, but i'll get one today. I'd imagine it's hovering around 60, like Tater said.

I imagine with all that rain it might have dropped a bit.

Cool thanks, I aways like to watch the temps, usually the big stringers are when the water is between 55-60 and occasionally a degree or two either side of that. ~c~

She didn't include the water temp, but here's today's report...

Quote
So far three keepers today and a few shorts. Pretty slow. Course, the really exciting part is that two of the keepers came at once on a jerk bait. Yes, two around three pounds each on one cast. One of them didn't get into the boat, but we both saw it on there. Pretty wild!

Don't know how much this one weighed! :-)

She included this pic...

Gar, yep we have a few of them around here :roll2: there is a picture in a conveinence store here of one that was caught about 8 years ago. The head is at the front of a 10 foot john boat and the tail is hanging out the back :shocking:

thanks for the updates ~c~

No problem!

We had quite the time with gar down in Florida last week. They made fishing a top water just about impossible.  ::) The one small lake we fished was over-run with them. It's a small, private body of water...maybe 65 achers total water surface. It really affected the bass fishing. I certainly don't claim to know anything about gar, but if i lived there i'd have to see what could be done about cleaning those out.

Coonhound,

Last Summer, after the grass matted up, i saw numerous gar...  the one in the pic was small compared to the one that tried to inhale my scum frog.  This dude looked like he belonged on The Crocodile Hunter...

I i can find a pic ill try to post them.  Bowfishing is pretty big on the lake.  I have several friends that take big carp and gar.  There thick here on the lake and creeks.

Those gar are crazy. We saw some huge ones in Florida. They look like torpedos coming after your topwater bait. lo

I guess you can't really practice 'catch and release' with a bow, huh? lo ;D

Today's report was pretty short...mom had a pretty bad signal when she called...

"Four keepers and quite a few dinks today. Mostly on 10" june bug worms. The water temp has fluctuated between 58 and 63, with the better fish coming from the warm water."

They talked about cutting the trip short and heading home tomorrow. I guess they're calling for rain and junk all day tomorrow, so they're going to call it quits. I'll update more if they end up staying...

Yea, its supposed to rain tomorrow...   ::)  Now, if it was the middle of summer, water temps in the 70's and i was out fishing, id stay out there...

Last summer in steady rain (not a downpour)  Me and my fishing partner couldn't reel em in fast enough off White Trick Worms.   As soon as the rain quit, the fish did too.

Sounds like the water temps are  staying about the same as they was last weekend  ~c~  Although, when i went by the creek i fish the most, the water looked more muddy than it has been.   Oh well, it don't matter, Sat. morning i'll be there... :D

Well, all the rain and storms left its mark on the area i fish the most, Crow Creek.  Put in at daylight and the wind wasn't that bad.   Went to my hunny hole and couldnt buy a bite.   Then i remembered my tube of Mega Strike

Put it on my trusty Orange Crawdad Rat-LTrap, caught several dinks, but the photo is of the best fish of the day.

The 35 mph wind gusts and the whitecapping swells made it hard to fish.

Water looked like coffee with alot of cream... Extremly muddy and the water temps have dropped as much as 10 degrees in some spots, but held between 52-56 deg. in less than 2 feet of water.

This fish came out of a grass flat, right before the water started whitecapping.

4-9-05,

My usuall launch ramp was flooded this  morning around 6:45, so i had to go to the new ramp. (picture is on the right in my siggy).  Nice dock, floating dock so it dont matter how high or low the water gets.  Don't necessarly like the ramp...

Anyways, its a 3 mile ride to the creek from this ramp.  There was debris everywhere in the water.  I didnt want to run full speed because i was bobbin and weaving...  :D

Got to the creek and the water is pulling so bad that even with your trollin' motor on high, my boat pretty much sit still.  So started up and went deeper into the creek.  The Debris was worse than the main river.  Started to fish my usual spot, where i have been catching good fish, it was covered up.

Water level being up like it was, i decided to fish some flooded timber.  Fished for around 30 mins or so, and my uncle was fishing the same spot.  we kept hearing something and there was 5 deer came running by in a field adjoining the water.

Kept fishing, the water is too muddy to do anything and never boated a fish.

Thing that bothers me is that i had several nice bites today, but missed them all.  Now granted i was fishing in brush piles, but i had a hit that was a real good fish.   ::)

I actually got the mess scared out of me this morning too.  I was fishing the same area, out in the flat and i was working the rat-l-trap.  All of a sudden this bass, jumps strait out of the water and about 3 feet in the air.  It scared me so bad i screamed ahhhh   :shocking: and my uncle was laughing his head off at me  :roll2:  This fish nearly landed in the boat!!!

Wish she would have been on my line.   ;)

All in all, had 2 small fish under 12", numerous bites, no keepers and a pretty good scare.  :D

Thanks for th update CouchTater, got to laugh about the jumping fish. I have had that happen many times around here but they are usually big shad, or if you go down in south Louisiana the mullet will drive you crazy.

After the round of Severe Weather we had last night, i figured the fishing would show it too.

Got up this morning and started out the door...  nahhh   ~rain i decided to wait and let it dry out some.

Pulled the boat off the trailer at around 2:30p.m and hit the main river.  This is starting to be repetitive.  From April 1, to today, the wind has been blowing from the NW from 10-30 mph. The creek i usually fish are so rough that its nearly impossible to fish them.

Ended up riding around fishing here and there.  Decided to bream fish for a few minutes and caught several, but i had a fish blow up while i was reeling a bream in.  Put the bream in the livewell and picked up the Albino Fluke...

3rd cast and i saw her make the turn to nail my fluke.  Landed her and 5 of her friends.  The biggest went about 3 1/2  the smallest about a pound...

All fish were released, i THOUGHT i had left my camera at home, but my tie off rope was covering it up...   ::)  After i had already got to the dock, then i found my camera.

Water temps varied in locations, anywhere from 62 to 66.   Water was very slightly stained.   A whole lot of Barge traffic this afternoon, more than i have ever seen in one afternoon.

This report is for 5-10-05.  I have had the fishing bug since my last trip.  I had planned on fishing the Monday Eve. Tourney, but work prohibited me from doing so.  Anyway, put in the water around 5:30 or so, went to a spot were i usually catch fish in the summertime.  Water is way down, all the laydowns and brush were uncovered.  ::)  So i went back to were i fished in my last post.  Hopin' those fish were still on bed...

Third cast with an Albino Fluke/Mega Strike combo, i had a fish take my offering.   ~c~  Got it to the boat, and i was like what is this?  I have been fishing this area since i was 6 and i had never up until then caught one of these...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/CouchTater/ec05002.jpg

Wanted to take a better picture, but i was quick to put it back...

Most of the time when i see these fish, there the size of a rattle trap or a fluke, usually.  I'd say this one was atleast 16-17 in long about a pound or so in weight.

Depending on which side of the river you fished, the water temps fluctuated from 83 to upper 70's.  In the pic, that far bank was in the 80's.

Water was slightly staind, but there was alot of JUNK and Trash in the water.  ::)  I bet i picked up 6 Coke bottles and empty Chicken Liver containers.  >:(

Tater

Too bad we don't have the same number of  WP and GW's on the water upriver as they do downriver... (also not that many boaters too)  PoPo

  5-15-05

Went out this eve. for a couple of hours.  The water level is down, the grass that is starting to grow was out of the water.   ::)   Was throwing a firetiger s/b with tandem willow's on the point of the grass, when i felt a hit and a tug...  After the outing i had yesterday, it felt really good to have a good fight on my hands.

Finally got the fish to the boat, then i saw what it was...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/CouchTater/ec07006.jpg

Nice cat, put up a good fight, but not what i was after.  Heck, its better than going home empty handed.   ~c~

The MegaStrike tube is there for reference, i had a friend of mine tell me that he didn't think it worked that good...  There ya go friend.  :D

This is a report for 5-21-05...

Put in around 8:30a.m  fished till 12:30 and caught 3 small ones just under measuring...  A junebug Zoom lizard, t-rigged, weighted and weightless brought them to the boat.

Went back around 5:30p.m  and fished till nearly dark.  Ended up with 2 fish and several missed strikes on a Bass Assassian Fluke.  I think the fish are still spawning, some are guarding...  This has been a wierd season so far.  I had fish moving the lures around, but not striking them.

Water temps were in the lower 70's to mid  70's, stained with about 2 ft clarity.

6-4-05

Today i put in at 5:30 this morning and fished till 2:00p.m.  Went down to Scottsboro and put in down there.  Its about 20 miles or so from where i live, but its worth the drive...

Fished an area that i fished last year, fished for 2 hours in a spot that i had been wanting to fish.  1-3 ft. full o' grass n slop...  All that resided there was carp and gar.  So decided to move to a backwater area.  Found my uncle and he was fishing a grass flat.  I trolled over to were he was and he missed a big fish...  Would have went 9lbs easy, but it got off right at the boat.

I ended up throwing a chartruse S/B with tandem Colorado blades.  Caught 2 dinks and nuthing else.  So moved around, neighbor has been askin' me to catch a mess of bream for him. The grass is too thick in this area for that!  Went back to the grass flat at about 10:30 or so.  It had been very foggy, but the sun was trying to come out.  I started throwing a Mann's Baby 1 Minus in Grey Ghost...  I like this crank because you can run it over the grass and draw them out.  (For now that it, in a month that will be a thing of the past, RAT TIME THEN!!!).  Ended up catching 2 more dinks on the 1 -, and 2 small Stripe.

Went on around the flat and started throwing the S/B again, the sun was out in full force then.  Casted out and i thought i was hung in the slop, i was hung alright...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/CouchTater/Fishing%20Pictures/12002.jpg

There must have been a tourney going on somewhere around the area, most boats i have ever seen in this area.  I had 6 boats around me when i caught this one... Almost in my pocket even.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/CouchTater/Fishing%20Pictures/12005.jpg

Water Clarity was slightly stained with a lil over a foot of visiblity,  Water Temps ranged from lower to mid 70's.

All this cooler weather we have been having has spoiled me.  I got hot today...  I dread next month.

Hit the big G yet again this morning around 6:00am  Met up with my dad and we fished together till around 2:00p.m  First fish came off my "rainbow" trout spinnerbait.  A 3 pounder out of the G-Ville Grass was on the end of my Trilene.

We met up with my uncle some time later and he showed us a fish he caught earlier in the morning.  It would go 5 1/2-6lbs easy.  About 30 mins. after that, my dad caught another hawg. This one was a tad bigger than my uncle's fish.  I ended the day with 4 fish.  Best one was the 3 pounder, Dad out fished me, but I was just happy to have him in the boat with me.   ~c~

The water was a mix of muddy and clear...  :-\  Around the grass flats, the water was clear, but closer to the channels it got muddier.  Water temps. Avg. between upper 70's to a little over 80.

Fishing was tough today.  The bite was there, if you like numbers, but we worked hard for the fish we caught today.  This certain area holds some big fish...

This is the best fish I had today...

 6-25-05

Had to baby sit today... (good thing :D it was too  ~sweat to pull an all day trip, so me and a buddy of mine headed out about 5:30 this eve.  Went to the closeset launch so we could get right to fishin'.  By next week, the frog and rat bite should be gettin' close.  The grass is almost there, but not matted yet...

Fished the edges and holes, had a decent fish get loose right at the boat, not the greatest hook set on my part.  ::)  The gar were really active this eve. chasing baitfish allover the place.

I ended up catching a small 10 in. bass off a pop'r.  Buddy caught one about the same size on a small round jig head with a orange and yellow 2 in grub...

Went on down to fish around a small island that is usually productive.  I missed 3 fish ( don't know what was wrong with me this eve.  >:(  >:( )  on my Bass Assassian fluke.

Fished the backside of the island and my buddy kept casting that small jig when I told him he was hung on a tree limb...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/CouchTater/Fishing%20Pictures/P1010002.jpg

Yup, about a 5, 5-1/2 lb limb...   ;PHO) He was excited, it was his biggest fish caught out of the river to date.  He is a good fisherman, but he gets discouraged easy.  Now he can't wait to go back.  ~c~

On the way home, He really let me have it.  He kept saying, you usually catch fish this size and I catch the small ones.  I told him that he had the lure that fish wanted, not me and that I was proud he caught it.

Tater

Water temps were in the lower 80's
water had a slight stain and all fish were caught in 3-4ft of water...
