hey all i'm a west virginia boy at heart but i know live in chattanooga, tn. i grew up on the ohio river in waverly right off rt. 2 . my parents had river front property so i fished the ohio most of my life. never really got into the lm bass fishing when i was a kid but caught the heck out of sager and stripes. i sure miss those days of living on the Ohio, rowing my Jon boat up river to bull creek and fishing my heart out. lived in mo town for a few years and there's some great smallmouth fishing there!!!! hope you guys can make it to Chattanooga some time to fish. you would not believe how much bigger the fish are here. blew my mind when me and my fishing buddy pulled up on a place where water runs into nick-a-jack lake from a plant. i looked into the water and saw 20-30  3-5' Gar. not to mention the 70, 80 and90 lbs. cats being caught here as well as 8,9 & 10lbs lm bass. i don't catch any of these  :bang but i read fishing reports every day that amaze me. all you WV boys take care and GOD bless.............

I'm from Charleston, WV. Haven't pulled any out this year worth writing home about but what I've lacked in size I've made up for in numbers. Seems to be A LOTof dinks in the Kanawha this year.

I'm from Huntington WV, getting ready to move to SC though. There has to be more WV bass anglers in WV than the few that post on here though, plenty of boats on the water every time out. And as for there not being any big bass in WV, depends on where you fish. I had 6 fish over 5lb at Stonewall on a 3-day Trip 2 Weeks ago. Closest lake for me is Yatesville Lake in Kentucky ;D ;D  I fish this lake more than any in WV ~shhh

Born and raised in Copley, Oh. (5 miles west if Akron) Lived in St. Marys for about 5 years and bought and sold property there for a long time. Then we moved down here to Clay County, WV (south Central part of the state)It's just a little more wild and wonderful down here lo Been here about 15 years.. Great fishing onthe Elk river and it runs right through the town of Clay. Mike

Yea Kim and Pete are great ..  I Grad MHS in 1985 .. if you grew up there and we are close in age I bet we know each other :)  my real name is Sean McDonald
Im 41 ..Kim is about 5yrs older I do believe than I am.
If you ever get to Chattanooga or near by here (Nashville 140 miles away - Atlanta 100 miles ) I lets go fishing .. I never get up that way any more .. I haven't been there since 2000 .
The only thing I miss up there is friends and family .. fishing is better here, so much better, and you can fish at least 360 days a year here
Late Jan and Erly Feb is the only time it gets really cold most years .. even then its rarely below freezing , and below 20 is pretty rare, some times youll be fishing in short sleeves in January.
Then in mid feb the water starts hitting the high 40s and low 50s and the bass start coming shallower with feed bags on .. the spawn is 90% over by mid April

Your sons age is still ok lol .. I'll still take an old fart  :shocking: did I just say that out loud   :-\  ~b~  uh take a nice old guy fishing on my home waters .. if you ever get this way or heading to FLa for the winter .. we have some big smallies down here .. the only thing I miss that is hard to come by here is trout streams at my back door , and muskie .. we do have some really killer trout streams around .. but they are 70-150 miles away and Muskie fishing on some of those trout waters too. I have pretty much givin up Trout fishing .. except maybe one or 2 trips to the Caney River near Nashville for some 5-20 lb browns .. and with Gas prices trips beyond the local area are getting less and less.
I live about 6 miles from Chickamauga Lake and 50 miles from Guntersville Lake, 30 to the upper G river area so I dont generally have to go far to catch quality Bass

Did you live near Everett Caroll's old sawmill, it was on Tom's Run?I been busy today getting everything ready ,we're going to go and fish the Potomac river tomorrow ,down near Shepherdstown ..coming back friday.Hope to get into some nice fish..We're not taking the boat ,our friends use a 12 or 14 ft alum. jon boat down there.I been limiting my boat fishing outings to twice a week,a little trip to Cheat Lake 30 miles round trip plus 5 gallons in the boat costs me 30 dollars or more.04 F-150 and a 17 1/2 ft Stratos..

The saw mill was on a little side dirt road, b4 you get to my house ( if coming from Rt 73 ), I lived at the Bottom of Grey Hill as people on Tom's Run called it, right across from Melvin and Ruth Friend, about a 1/4 mile from the road that the saw mill was on.
I know what you mean about limiting trips, I have a old 1971  15ft Tomboy river/bass boat with 35hp that I use most of the time these days, I sold my 17ft Astro last year right b4 the gas prices shot of to 3.85 that they are here now.
Im dying to to have bigger boat back for the stability and room, but dont miss the 30 gallon tank, and I catch just as many bass out of the small boat, and I can go on several trips with 6 gallons in the old tomboy. Just not get there fast. But I generally fish within 2 miles of the ramp anyway, I just trailer to the area I wana fish.

If gas prices stabilize next year Im gonna buy a G3 17 ft with a 70-90hp 4 stroke, will get me near what I had b4, but still better on gas than my 150hp was, but still hang onto the Tomboy for the smaller rivers.

Good luck on the Potomac river, I love that river.. I had a blast over there many summers tearing up the smallies
