A couple years back I purchased a head net to escape hydrilla gnats on Lake Seminole while fishing the summer months. The only problem was the heat. I think I'd rather compete with the gnats than sweating under a head net. Then I learned from a couple of locals that Downy Fabric Softening Dryer Sheets were very helpful in keeping these pesky rascals at bay. Take a sheet and lightly dab your face and forehead. Then stick the sheet somewhere close to your face - like partially secured in your hat or tucked into the top of your shirt. This works - give it a try. Gnats will come on in, take one sniff, and run to your fishing buddy at the other end of the boat

Thats a nice idea. It has been so hot down here and those darn things have been driving me crazy its even worse when you are sweating. I also hate wearing somthing over my face I used to do it for hours on end when I used to do a ton of hunting out at Fish Eating Creek.

Oh goodness they were crazy out today. They almost took me away I used bug spary and I really had no affect on them. Gonna have to try the dryer sheets I guess.

They don't have to be Downey brand, I use the ones from the dollar store!

Cheaper may be better - they may all work for all I know.

Swede, my gramma has been using dryer sheets on the screen doors at her house to keep the bugs from trying to come in.......works great......

A little late in the season for me to see this,but gonna tell the wife.She just loves these sort of things.You know how it works,I just went and payed good money for one of those bug machine I can take up a tree with me.

Another way to replace paper towels and eliminate ruined dish cloths is to use totally worn out dryer sheets to clean up messes. They work great for spills that stain, such as tomato sauce and oil. I keep a small supply under my kitchen and bathroom sinks just for this purpose.

Air Fresheners
Dryer sheets are great to use as air fresheners. Put them in your dresser drawers, at the bottom of wastebaskets, on closet shelves, in laundry hampers, in pillowcases and underneath sheets, under or behind furniture cushions, even in your car on the floors or under the seat.

Put a few drops of essential oil, perfume, or whatever you prefer onto a worn out dryer sheet. Place the dryer sheet in your vacuum cleaner for a great smelling experierience whenever you vacuum.

Deodorizers
Make your shoes smell nice by stuffing dryer sheets into them overnight. This really works well.

Place a new dryer sheet in anything that isn't used often or that is put into storage- books, purses, luggage, camping equipment, coats, and similar items.

Outdoors
Take dryer sheets along with you on camping trips to use as fire starters.

Mice hate the scent of dryer sheets. Placing them in entrances to empty houses or vehicles may help deter them.

Static Electricity
Prevent static shocks from your television and computer monitor by wiping with a dryer sheet. A used one works better than new, as it doesn't leave a film on the screen.

Eliminate static in your hair by running a dryer sheet over your hair. Or rub a dryer sheet over your hairbrush before brushing your hair.

Use dryer sheets to eliminate static cling on clothing and pantyhose by rubbing the dryer sheet on the affected clothing.

Hobbies
Used dryer sheets can be used as interfacing for sewing projects.

Pets
If you have a problem with removing pet hairs from hard surface floors, nothing works better than dryer sheets.

Rub dryer sheets on your dog's fur in the winter to prevent him from getting shocked when he gets petted and to help keep him smelling nice during a season when it is more difficult to bathe him. This is not recommended for cats, as the ingredients in dryer sheets may be harmful to cats when they lick themselves.
