Maybe it's the browser y'all are using? I sometimes use AOL(  ~die~ ), only because of easier access to my favorites on the toolbar and I have to keep clicking to refresh. Now I use Comcast as a browser with IE, which is SOOOOOOO much faster.

Cable's nice, but not when you look for stuff with AOL(  >:D )

Ok... from here on out when we are talking about the speed of the site I need to know a few things or we just won't be able to help at all...

What is your internet connection: DSL - DIAL UP - CABLE _ SATELLITE

How long to load: please post the numbers that are listed at the bottom of the page, example (Page created in 0.08 seconds with 10 queries.)

** the numbers above are a true representation of how long it took the page to load from the server. It does not take into account how long it takes to appear on your computer screen which has nothing to do with the server.

Time of day when problem occurred: this would be your time and zone 9pm est

How many members and guests were online:

These are all things that come into effect and without knowing the answers to these questions I am just guessing at what the trouble is.

Mine seems to be loading a lot faster now. Before almost all loaded quickly, but every once in a while one page would be stubborn. Now it seems like all are loading quickly, good job again Laurie!!   ~c~

Before MotherNature updated the site I would be looking around UB and if I clicked on a thread before ALL of the logos/pictures were up on the screen (like sponsors logos or other), then I was directed to paypal  :-\

Since the update everything seems to be working great and much faster.

BTW, this problem only happened on my works/company computer.

I have asked around the site and seems everyone I have asked is having problem with the siggy block but I think Crash is the only one that lost her siggy all together.

Siggy's are a big issue with load time.... So we are looking at different options before we go in and fix everything dealing with those please tell Crash to be patient, we should have it figured out in the next day or two.  :bang :bang

The rules below are the rules and I have allowed them to go slack. The ones in red especially. Way back when we had an issue with load time, we set up a limit on how large the siggy's could be and that limit has been exceeded on a regular basis now. I know it isn't on purpose, I think it is just because we don't think about it. The number of lines in the siggy's is outrageous. Folks are getting carried away with what they have there and personally it is annoyingly to read a thread and have to scroll through 3/4 of a page of siggys to read 1/4 of a page of info so we need to address that as well. The height and width of the siggys is another issue to be dealt with and it will all be addressed over the next couple of days.

I know when you all said you were having trouble with the load time of the site you were looking for an easy fix and unfortunately that is never the case. It usually involves some give and take on both parts. I am working on a new theme that will have less graphics so that it will load quicker without having to sacrifice the sponsor banners and there are some perks that are going to have to be reigned into the rules that have always been in place or removed.

Siggys are a prime candidate for site load time slacking on the viewer side. When the page is loading it goes from top to bottom and loads as it reads the calls to different items. When it reaches photobucket or shutterfly it waits for those images to load. Those are two of the slowest loading sites I have had to deal with in ages. In the past we had set it up so that members would load their siggys there because we were on a shared server with limited bandwidth and it was more cost effective for us that way. Now that we have a dedicated server with more bandwidth than we can use we need to start moving our siggys and avatars back to UB.

Oh... and Avatars... During the upgrade I noticed when I accidentally changed a setting that there are some folks that are uploading avatars that are HUGE so that is an issue as well...

As you can see there are a lot of little things that we will be doing over the next couple of weeks that will help the site overall... will it be painless? No but it needs to be done ;)
