Prop question for my uncle....
« on: August 24, 2007, 08:50:11 AM »

My uncle just bought a 19ft VIP Baystealth and he is having serious trouble getting out of the water and on step..
He has a 150 Mariner

He has a 3 blade prop on it, it looks like someone tried to work the prop and didn't know what they were doing, all of the numbers are missing, he said that he thinks it might be a 25 pitch.

I suggested to him that he may wany to consider a 4 blade, he isn't conserned about top end he just wants to get out of the water.

Any suggestions would be helpful. ;)

If he isn't worried about top end 4 blade would def. be the way to go.  Can you post some more numbers for the boat? I know Robbie is going to need mpre to go on.  ;)

I think that he is running about 40mph at about 5000 to 5500 rpms....

I will call him tomorrow and get his numbers, I am offshore right now but I will try to get in touch with him tomorrow.

OK Robbie,

He talked to the previous owner and it is a 25 pitch..

He is running 38 to 42 mph WOT RPMs are running 5200 to 5400..depending on his load..

The motor is a Mariner 150 EFI..

I hope that this helps.

I would recommend a 23P Merc Trophy. It is a 4 blade prop that will increase his rpm's and help holeshot. His 150 is designed to run at 5400-5800 @ WOT. I would try to find someone who will let you try the prop before you buy it.

Thanks alot Robbie,

He was able to get his hands on a 24 pitch trophy just to try out.
But I will tell him to try a 23 pitch also and see where his rpm's are running.

Thanks agian Robbie ;)
