Transducer / Puck Question
« on: March 09, 2008, 07:57:59 PM »

While tracing a tube in my boat today, the tube brushed up against the puck in the hull at the rear of the boat and it popped out.  There is a small circle where it was at in the hull but I can't tell what was holding or keeping it in place.

Is there a way I can re-attach the puck back in place?  If so, can you all help me with the steps and materials or adhesive I need to complete the job!

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Sand both areas (the face of the puck and  the hull).  Clean with acetone, then use epoxy to glue it back down.  You can use popcicle sticks to make a little box to keep the epoxy from running if you would like.  The important thing is to make sure you mix the epoxy carefully so you don't get any air bubbles in it, and when you stick the transducer in, do not move it around, so you don't get any air bubbles in the mix.  Air bubbles will reduce the effectiveness of the sonar.

Thanks AB for the help!

Just a quick question...

Do I put the epoxy on the sides of the ducer and boat so it stays in place...or do I want it on the bottom of the puck also to hold it to the boat?  There was no epoxy on the bottom of the puck....just on the side of it to hold it to the boat.

Is there a certain type of epoxy I should use?

Thanks!!!

Use the popcicle sticks to make a "pool"....puddle the epoxy in there, then stick the transducer in it.  You want the epoxy between the transducer and hull to better transmit the sound waves for the sonar.

Any good 2 part 30 minute epoxy will work.
