Hi everyone, I have a question concerning proper ride height of the motor. I have a 17' Ranger with a 90HP Merc.
I only get 36 GPS MPH @ 5000 RPM in perfect conditions, I really thought this should be more. I do not have a jack plate but do have the ability to raise or lower the motor somewhat. In relation to where the stabilzer is mounted on the foot, it is 5 to 6" below the hull. Should it be this low?

What prop is on it? Do you have a water pressure gauge? On those boats, generally you will want the cavitation plate (NOT THE PROPSHAFT!!) to be about 1" above the pad, which should put the propshaft 4-5" below pad...

I'm sure its a factory prop. I do know that its a 17 pitch.If I understand you correctly then my motor is setting about 5 inches to low.

NO! The cavitation plate is the plate above the prop...the big flat plate. That should be about 1" above the bottom, which should put the centerline of the propshaft about 4" below the bottom of the boat. Give or take a little bit.

Oh Ok, I miss interpreted what you said. So my motor is setting ok then. My Ol' Merc just maxs out at 36. Can't complain though she runs like a charm.
