Fished Chequamegon Bay Thursday with my son, took his boat this trip. Beautiful warm, mostly sunny day, mostly light winds from the NE (off the "big refrigerator" out there) cooled you off quick when you were exposed. Water is really low on Superior this year, launch behind Angler's All is not usable, 2nd Landing usable but you have to trim way up as you come out around the breakwater.
Water muddy at the landing and along that shoreline, decent but not normal clarity in the other areas we checked. Sand Cut 56 to 57 degrees, very shallow, no fish visible. 2 guide boats and at least 4 other boats way back up in the back end; I'm guessing warmer water and more active fish up there, we did not elbow our way in - not much room, we'd have had to pass within 20' of other boats to get in there. Took us a while, but we finally found just the right break to drift and hammered 'em for a while. Several nice fish on crank baits, topped by a 6.5 lb SM for Jason and an 11.5 lb Pike for me.
Moved further away from the congestion at the head of the Cut, unable to raise any more fish further out. Tried Kakagon, very shallow, warmer - mid 60's - just one little SM there. Called it a day and decided to head back to our cabin in Vilas County for the night & fish down there Friday.
