Smoke on the water.......
« on: December 02, 2008, 12:32:34 PM »

Hey you smokers.  I was gonna put this tip in the tips section, but I like it better out here where I can get more people to read it.  I hate seeing cigarette butts in the water and on the shore where I fish.  They DO NOT BELONG THERE.  A couple of Ideas for you.  Use one of these I have one of these

Or these, I have one of these also, it's great!

Or these

or even an old can .

Listen I smoke and I take care out there won't you???

I'm with you on this one Dug.  I too am a smoker, and as a fisherman, I feel it's our responsibility to keep the waters we all fish clean as much as we can.  Nothing pisses me off more than seeing someone just tossing litter or anything into the water.  Somehow, I've managed to keep one of the smaller storage bins on the back deck of my boat empty just to put all the drink bottles and trash throughout the day in to.  It only takes a minute to practice this small amount of conservation.

I'm with you guys on this. I hate to see people throw trash in the water. I was fishing with a guy one time that was drinking beer. He was holding his beer can in the water letting it fill up. He saw me looking at him and he said'' I sink my cans'' like he was proud of himself. I told him ''Not when your with me you don't''. I couldn't believe he thought he was doing the right thing. I try to put my empty soda or gatoraide cans back in the cooler but if the fish are biting they sometimes wind up in the bottom of the boat. I wear overalls so I stick candy wrappers and empty worm bags in my pockets. Smells kind of funny sometimes but dogs love me. lo

I usually keep a coke or water bottle with some water in it to put my cigs out. If not I will put them out and put them in a pouch that marlboro sent me. My locker box has a bunch of trash in it after every outing. I try to keep a plastic shopping bag in the boat to get rid of clutter and trash.

I put buts in a plastic soda bottle and throw all trash in my livewell, it doesn't get used otherwise.

I finally took the leap two weeks ago - I quit smokeless tobacco.  Was a Copenhagen man for 19+ years.  Just got to be too much - prices going up, potential medical problems, insurance rates go up, etc etc.  Should have never started and should have quit long ago.  A lot of money went down the drain over the years.  Anyhow - over the hump and shooting for a month - then two - etc etc.

I really think it's a matter of respect for your environment.  Population growth itself is tough on mother nature - we don't have to add the effects of trash on top of it.  Recycle when you can!!

We always have some type of container for any trash during the day in the boat.  Our club members always take a minute to pick up any garbage around the boat ramp left by others before leaving at the end of the day.  It helps and it works.  ;D

I flick the cinder off along with any remaining tobacco and put filter in an Altoids tin I carry in one of my many pockets. Quick, simple and compact.

Good luck in your effort to quit the snuff Swede. I think it is harder to quit than smoking personally.

I'm with everyone else on the trash. It shouldn't matter if it's an empty bag of worms, or as small as a ciggarette butt..it's still littering and it doesn't belong in the lake. Where I fish there are alot of shore fisherman and I often see them throw crap in the lake, and I often call them out on it as well. ~rant

It is. Nicotine is one of the most chemically addictive substances known to man. A cigarrette has about 5 mG of nicotine. An average dip has 12-15.
