Welcome to UB senkoman1! Not sure where the fuel tank is on your Champ but an open vent line comes to mind. There are a few Champ owners on here so you should get an edjucated response soon.

I have an 03 187 DC. I had the same problem. My boat actually had a fuel leak right at the top where the sender goes in. Wasnt that much but enought o smell. I fixed the leak, scrubbed the back fuleing area then rinsed and then added a ton of bilge pump cleaner. Also another goo trick is to throw a small bar of soap in the bottom hull every now and then. This will mix with the water and keep that compartment smelling clean. Also see last post, you might have a vent open.

Many brands have this issue. It is due to the material the gas tanks are made out of. They are permeable and the odor leaks out. I just leave a locker lid open. Vents can be added, but vents only work when the boat is moving.
My understanding is that the industry which makes the fuel tanks, is trying to find a material which does not allow for fumes to escape. I have NEVER heard of any situation in which this issue is more than just a nuisance.

it is not the amount of gas Im putting in the tank. I cleaned up the gas, and with only a 1/4 of a tank, when I get on the car hard, gas comes up from the holes. I have zero doubt the gas smell is coming from the raw fuel sitting where my back seat once was.
