Topic: Unexperience but wanting to learn (Read 3555 times)

I am 31 yrs. old relatively new to angling and would like to gain more experience. But I have no boat and just started upgrading gear from a zebco 404 setup. Would like to hook up with B.A.S.S. members or anyone willing to help with getting me a little drier behind the ears. The main conflict I see is that my free days are Wednesdays an Thursdays ( my days off ) since I work graveyard. I'm in the Omaha area. Let me know Thanks

Hello and welcome to Ultimate Bass. Don't feel bad eye havn't been Bass fishing that long and you can catch them from the bank. Eye don't have a boat either. We do have a member from your area hope ya'll can get together but in the mean time just look around there is lots of helpfull informatin here to get you going in the right direction.

Thanks alot, was going to buy one of the new tracker 16 pro V's this spring but ended up having to buy a new car lol it's always something I'll tell ya.

Welcome to UltimateBass! This is a great place to pick up bass fishing information.

Besides here, one of the best ways to learn is to hire a guide for a day or two. Reading something in a book, magazine or off a computer screen is very productive, but nothing beats learning from those that do it for a living. Don't be afraid to ask questions or for correction in a technique or presentation, that's what the guide is for.

Seeing HOW it's done can be so much more productive than reading about it. Reading, then trying to interpret that correctly can often be difficult, but if you have someone in the boat coaching you can make all the difference in the world.

Then, it's a matter of practice, experimentation and studied observation.

the one piece of advice I would tell any one new to our sport is go to the local tackle store and talk to the old guys there. ask them is there any club in the area that are looking for members? ask them do they know anyone interested in fishing with some one new? you will be surprised at how many fishermen will talk with a new guy or gal.

You can learn a lot from the posting here on UB and everything you learn helps when you make it out. From how to pack to go out fishing from the bank to what to bring when you share the day on a boat with some one. Just remember most of us are willing to share info as long as you ask us.

I guess I better speak up first before Cold Front gets you fishing out of his metal boat AND sitting too.

Are you/do you have affiliation with the Air Force? If so, there is an entire world of bass fishing through the base, and the run a tournament series thru the spring and summer, on Wednesdays!

I fish locally, have a [real] boat [not a metal one] and [I have no fishing seats on that boat] usually fish at Walnut Creek, Zorinsky, Prairie View or the Spanh about once a week (either Tusday evenings on Friday afternoons).

I belong to the River City Bass Club, fish the Wood's circuit, fish Fishers of Men (Iowa Div), and this year will start fishing Walmart's BFL, down in Missouri.

I am a member of BASS, the BASS Federation, and the FLW.

I almost have my own parking place at BPS, so you might say I fish a bit. Give me a PM and I will provide you with my phone number and other email address so we can talk fishing, gear, and tactics.

I started really getting into fishing last yr. my first big lake ( well big to me anyway ) Branched Oak not knowing what I was doing an inreturn no success. Other then that I fished everychance I got at a little pond at a Veterans Club in Bellevue. this yr. I am taking a week long fishing trip to Missouri an going to Smithville Lake in early May. I have been checking out maps and trying to get ideas of where I wanna hit up on the lake. Talk about putting myself on a learning curve. But hey maybe I'll get lucky an bag a few pigs an get pics to post them on here.

No I have no affiliation with DoD or USAF though I know a few from the pond. I used to fish base lake when I was younger since a friend had a base pass through his family. Even though Doug would chastise it I do need to sit an fish right ( lol ) now do to medical issue and currrent size ( fused ankle, deformed vert. in lower back and 368 yea notta small guy) but those are slowly being taken care of.

No prob on the sitting, can always break out the chair for medical reasons (or wife).

Smithville is an animal. Fishing that without a boat would be a daunting task. Fishing it in a boat can be a dangerous task, if you get off the beaten path. Parking fees and ramp fees are not cheap either.

I'm renting a boat down there they said its like $100 a day for each of the 5 days there and a $100 deposit. Though I forgot to ask them what style they rent. I'm sure it's just a little 3 man metal one with a motor on the back. by the look of the maps I have been looking at it looks like north of the Honker Cove Refuge would be the less traveled and fished or east of access point 24 might hit up in that area the first day.

Yea I noticed there are alot of people around here that Bill Dance fish. I'm sure Doug will get you squared away, he might even tell you about the orange senko's too.

first of all, good to have you here newb...bass fishing is one of the most fun, interesting and rewarding pursuits out there...always something to learn from the fish, other folks, yourself...always some new tackle, lure or lure color too...

Bass fishing can be as easy or as complicated as you want to make it or let it become.

oh, and Doug, it ain't Bill Dance fishing unless the fish have pet names...

Thanks Cold, well whatta day so far got off work at 7 this morning took the wife to work went to the swap meet at holiday got some softs and a lowrance though I'm sure it not the best lol. then went to BPS around 9:30 bout a bunch of crankbaits, spinners, a buzz, and more soft baits damn a $300 day but I think I have a good beginners collection.

LOL yea right now its not taking up much room just a 5'x5' area. But, now I just have to learn how to use everything I bought. I'll have to make a list of gear sometime and so it easier to bet input on how to fish certain baits.

We are willing to help you learn what they can do and how they do it, just ask us any time. If it gets to you asking questions just think of it as your teaching other how to fish them. You would be surprised at how many will not ask the simplest question thinking they sound dumb.

As we say the only dumb question on UB is the one not asked!

as for the 5x5 area, you are real just starting out, mine has taken over a whole room in my upstairs, and it's not all in there yet!
