Prague City Lake
« on: May 03, 2009, 11:43:44 PM »

Just fished a tourney at Prague City Lake saturday.  If you haven't ever been there (which I hadn't), the lake is about 225 acres with lots of standing timber.  There is a 3 dollor fee to fish (2 dollars if you don't have a boat).  We had to start an hour later than usual due to a thunderstorm that was rolling through.  It was raining probably about half the time we were on the water.  I was wearing my Air Force PT jacket and pants, which apparently are only water proof to a certain point.  I was soaking wet within a couple of hours.  Time to go buy a real rain suit (again).

The water was stained with about 12 - 18 inches of visibility in most areas I was trying, which was basically the east side of the east arm.  I think the west arm visibility was lower, but I'm not positive.  Winds were variable from 5 MPH up to 8 gazillion MPH (okay, maybe 30 MPH).

I was only able to boat 4 fish and one of those was short, so it's safe to say the front made the fishing a bit rough for most of us.  My fish all came on craw type baits like Rage Craw and Tube Craw in green to green/brown color, however my brother-in-law was using similar type baits and got blanked (maybe my uncontrollable shivering was giving my baits a better action).  While I caught all mine in the south half of the east arm, the folks that did the best were fishing in the north half, mainly in the cove at the northeast of the lake.  Every bite I had was in 2 to 4 feet of water, but I didn't spend too much time throwing in deeper water.

Despite my lack of success, there were several folks that got limits in the mid-teens, with big bass being about 6.5lb.  If you live in the central OK area, I would recommend giving this lake a try.  I think on a decent day, a lake that looks that good and can be easily fished from a small boat would be a lot of fun.  By the way, it is a no-wake lake, so you don't have to contend with pleasure boats or PWCs.
