Tombigbee River
« on: May 20, 2009, 02:49:48 PM »

This past Saturday and Sunday 5/16/& 5/17/09 water levels were back up.  Maybe as much as 10 feet.  Water had been consistantly going down since the last flooding spell but now is back up some.  Channel temps were 73 - 74 water and sloughs were 78-79 temps.  Got lots of shallow bites.  Huband caught 2½ & 3 lbs LrgMouths and huge 15 lbs cat on a senko.  I caught lots and lots of 1½ pounders!  We got bites on senkos (blacks and blue/black), cranks (firetiger) and rat-l-traps (chrome/Blk Back).  It was rainy and cloudy all weekend.

That sounds like a pretty good trip Flutterspoon.  I have never fished senkos in this part of Alabama.  I grew up fishing in south Alabama and we fished them down there.  What landing do you guys usually launch at on the Tombigbee River?  When I fish over there I launch at Vienna Landing.

Fished around Forkland again this past weekend.. (May 30 & 31st).  Water is back down now.  Not much of a current.  Saturday we caught 8 largemouths but all 1 to 2 lbers.  Sunday was worse... only caught 4 total and all little guys!  Seemed as if the hot weather had them going deeper and feeding later.   We caught all bass in the shallows 10 foot to an inch or two deep.  Caught one on a crank and the rest on Brush hogs (watermelon w/red and black w/red).

Wish I could have gotten out for a while - sounds like the heat already starting to affect things.  I think the summer patterns have arrived.  Thanks for the report!! ~c~
