I am probably not going to enter it because I haven't found the morning bite on Holt yet.

But there are weekly night tournaments on Holt that I fish throughout the summer.  I usually fish the one every Thursday evening from 5 to 9.  The weigh in and registration is at Rock Quarry Landing.  It doesn't cost but $35 to fish it and it is a lot of fun!!  Usually only 15 to 20 boats show up but last week there were almost 30 boats in it.  They usually pay out the top 3 places for overall weight and do a payout for big fish also.  You can have a co-angler in this tournament!!  So if anyone out there likes fish Holt and likes to fish small tournaments with a fun group of guys then ya'll be at Rock Quarry at 5:00 thursday evening.

Yeah... we have been there on tournament Thursday evenings!!  Years ago when we got a saltwater boat (we weren't into bass fishing yet) we were trying to take the boat out of the water and couldn't figure out why all these boats were hanging out by the Rock Quarry Landing.  Guys kept coming up by us and looking at us like we were crazy!  Guess they thought we were fishing the tournament in the saltwater boat.. haha.  We finally went over and tied up at Deer Lick until the tournament go started to get out of the way.  Now -a -days we just cling to the shoreline when you guys get ready to launch the tournament so we won't be in the way if we are ever there on Thursdays.  We will have to wait for the new boat before we can stay up with everybody on the tournament take-off (saltwater and Tin boat/60 hp four stoke don't work for that... haha) ~roflmao

Big boat small boat doesnt matter, i've seen alot of dogfight tournaments won with small boats. I fished tournaments out of a 14' fiberglass with a 50 horse Johnson and still fish Guntersville with it.

I agree with Eric C.  I fish within about 5 miles of Rock Quarry Landing in those tournaments.  My boat is not nearly as fast as most of the boats out there though.  I have a 1997 Stratos that is 17 foot long with a 115 Evinrude.  With two people, full tank of gas, and full livewell it will go about 56-57 mph.  That is nothing compared to those boats that will go in the 70's and 80's.  Just remember, there are plenty of good fish to be caught within a few miles of the landing, and hey, we don't burn nearly as much gas as the other guys!!  I will be fishing in the tournament this evening and will let ya'll know how it goes!!

The tournament this evening didn't go that well.  I didn't have but 4.2lbs.  I couldn't catch anything but small ones all evening.  A little over 9 lbs won ($270) which is a pretty small bag compared to what has been winning up there.  There were 25 boats in the tourney and most of them had around 4,5,& 6 lbs.  The big fish weighed 3.2 lbs.  I caught all of my fish on a shaky head in 8 to 15 foot of water, except for one i caught on a crankbait.  The main reason the fishing was tough this evening was because there was ZERO CURRENT!  But overall I still had a fun day on the water!!

SexyShad....

Sounds like the same fishing we ran into at the Tombigbee (Forkland area).... Very little current... fish feeding very late.... only catching small ones

Thanks for the report... I'm looking forward to going back to Holt... it is so much great just to be on the water there.. such a beautiful place
