Guntersville grass soon to be gone....
«

It seems that a local group of landowners in and around Roseberry Creek (Jackson County Park) who call themselves the "Roseberry Rescue Group" has received the necessary funding and will be treating the area (over 900 acres) with Fluridone. This will kill all vegitation in the area for atleast two years. I have voiced my opinion in the local paper with a letter to the Editor as has other anglers.
It turns out that the majority of the land owners are business owners in Scottsboro also. I have decided to boycott anything and everything in the city of Scottsboro. This includes Gas stations, food and tackle shops. I will spend my money in my own county.
If your an out of town or out of state angler planning on fishing the Lake, please consider this action and stay in either Marshall or DeKalb Counties its not that far from Rainsville or Ft Payne, AL to the river. At most 20-25 mins.
The Scottsboro Mayor, City Council and County Council have all sided with the "rescue group" as has the district representatives who have pleged to help finance the operation.
Folks this will end up killing our resource and will take years to flourish again if it ever does. I have a word document that has several articles to this issue If you want to read them, email me

Eric I am sorry to hear that. Fishing has to be a big part of there income, I guess they don't know what they are doing!!!!
There is a ton of documentation out there that proves removing the grass reduces the lunker population! However it does improve school fishing but they will be much smaller fish.
It's a shame they are going to damage such a great fishery. BASS fishes it several times a year and has a guy ( can't remember his name right now) that fights issues like this, you definately need to get him involved!!! BASS brings a lot of money with their events, the Elites go there every year?

IT IS ALL OF THE
PLEASURE BOAT RIDERS AND JET SKI TYPE PEOPLE THAT WANT TO DO THIS. ERIC I AM SURE YOU REMEMBER WHEN THEY DID THIS A FEW YEARS AGO AND MESSED THE LAKE UP FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. IS THERE ANY LEGAL ACTION THAT WE CAN TAKE ON HELPING THE ANGLERS OUT? I KNOW ON SOME OF THE LANDINGS THERE IS A LARGE EMBLEM THAT STATES RESTORATION OF RECREATIONAL FISHING. MIKE ON THE INCOME SIDE OF THINGS YES IT WOULD BE A HUGE DROP IN INCOME THERE ARE TACKLE SHOPS ON EVERY CORNER AND THE PROS DO COME UP THERE SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR. THIS IS SO
STUPID!!!!

I sent you an email. I would like to help in anyway possible. When is it supposed to take place? Maybe we can all gather up as many people as we possibly can to sign something against this.

I'm no lawyer, but, isn't the DNR responsible for whatever vegetation control is needed? To me it seems like a few "concerned" citizens are trying to legalize polluting the water. They should have to get more clearance than the mayor, city or county commissioners. Do they have any conservation management in their background? Wow, sounds like you all have some real winners running that county. Good luck and give them heck!!!

They have sprayed the area twice already with another treatment planned for June, I'm afraid it is too late.
Well there has been a HUGE public outcry against it,two problems with it, they have more money and have the politicians behind them. The city of Scottsboro's Mayor, City council and the county council. Not to mention the state senator for this area and the state representative helped finance the spraying.
Second, TVA ( Tennessee Valley Authority) has permitted the public to spray aquatic vegitation in public areas around home owners property. They have allowed spraying of chemicals that are not harmful to humans but may harm the wildlife. They are interested in there agenda and they have been quoted as hoping to eradicate all of the vegitation.
The only way to fight this is to hit them where it hurts, the pocketbook. This in turn will hurt local businesses that are not associated with the group. I would like to find the business and post a boycott list.

Honestly, what is the good reason for this? There are 2 sides, and I'd like to hear the other, because right now, it makes absolutely no sense to me! I've been wanting to get up there and rip a rattletrap and spinnerbait through all that grass, doesn't look like I'm gonna have much of a shot.
It will be interesting to see what, if anything, this does to the weights when and if the Elites come back.

I have a bunch of news article I can email you. If you want to find them on your own you can google Roseberry Rescue Group, Roseberry Creek, Jackson County Park. You would think that the group would have a website or blog so the public would support them.

There has to be some legality in this matter. Here on Smith lake the buck brush as we call it is illegal to be cut down because it is consider wet lands. There has to be some way to stop this. We should write Montgomery and send this thing to a vote. That way it would be fair to all citizens not just not just the high and mighty.

TVA is the governing body over the river and they have allowed it. See Hydrilla and Milfoil are not native plants so if someone wants to destroy it like in this situation, they can as long as TVA okay's it.

Did they not see the Elites annihilate the bass down there??? geesh. All of the people that would have been flocking there will probably rethink that now. You said it's only 900 acres, which the lake is obviously much larger than that, but that is still a significant area. I would think this as a not-so-bright local business tactic.
