Skeet Reese Tessera rods?
« on: July 26, 2009, 12:52:50 PM »

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone was lucky enough to get into icast and check out the new Tessera rods? I want to get a new heavy rod for flipping/pitching jigs and the price looks right, just wondering how they feel since I will probably be ordering online and may not get a chance to hold one before I order.

Thanks!

I saw them at ICAST this year. They seem very light weight yet strong. The price point is very good on them Under $100 sounds like a good deal for a great rod. I myself use the Carrot Stix 7'9 XH and 7'6 H for all my flipping needs. I can flip all day without fatigue with those rods. Let me know if you get one. I would love to know how fishing was with them.

I used the flipping stix they other day for a couple hours  ~c~ Very please! Light, no fatigue, and handled the heavy hydrilla with ease. I think they have a winner here and the price is definitely right. The other companies better watch out. The old saying you get what you pay for, well the price is dropping.

I have 4 of them.  I have a 7' Spinnerbait/Worm, 7'2" Jig/Worm, 8' Flippin'/Pitchin/, and a 7' Crankbait.  I love them all and I have been fishing them pretty extensively for a little over a month now.  They are light, I think they have excellent sensitivity and all kinds of power.  The crankbait rod is the best crankbait rod I have ever used.  It is a very flimsy rod when you grab it, but it can sure launch a crankbait and it loads up AWESOME!!  It is a S-Glass Crankbait rod but for glass it sure is sensitive you can really feel those fish suck a crankbait in with it.

I was watching Skeet on ESPN sat. and he was using the cranking rod and i was like WOW look how limber that rod is!! I swear it looked like it had a 3 foot arch in it on his back swing!! and his bait was leaving like a rocket too! This will be my next rod to try.

oh yea it definitely has more flex in it than any other crankbait rod I've ever used.  It is completely different than any other crankbait rod I've used also.  The rod has so much give to it when you set the hook on a fish the rod does the rest of the work and it's almost like you aren't even fighting a fish because the rod takes so much of the workload.

Has anyone seen a weight listed for the rods (flipping stick in particular) or weighed one them selves?

Drove down to Cincy BPS this morning to look at and maybe buy the 8 foot flipping stick.  The rod definately gets your eye..you can see them all the way across the store .  I wish I felt differently about them but I just thought they were too heavy for me.  I held one side by side with the Mojo rod and the Skeet rod was noticably heavier and seemed very tip heavy. The 7ft 2 in Skeet rods felt much better IMO.
I'm still looking....Somewhere out there is a super light flipping stick that I cant live without...and afford.

I forgot to add, if anyone else was interested... I was able to contact the manufacterer yesterday and was advised the 8 ft flipping stick weighs in at 6.56 ounces.

I picked up the SGlass cranking stick a couple of weeks ago and love it.  It's a little heavy but that goes along with a glass rod.  Can't beat the price either.  I recommend it to others who are looking for a good crankbait rod at a reasonable price.

Jut got back from dick's....

I was checking out them out! I put different reels on them, from the revos (S - Premier), Fuegos, and citicas.  This is a VERY nice feeling rod! It's very light weight, feels pretty sensitive too! I like the grips they've got on them too! It's a rubber kind of thing, it's VERY comfy, I like it a lot!  ~shade It's evan got 13 friggin' guides on it, something I've never seen in 100 dolor price range rod! I just wonder how they would compare to a vendetta rod from Garcia?

I only wish it was 10 bucks cheaper!  ???

I love the grips on the rod, and I feel that for the price it's a great rod. However, compared to my carrot stix's that I fish with and love, the tessera rods are as heavy as a rock. The 8ft rod feels like a bowling ball and isn't nearly as stiff as I would like for a flippin stick.

i bought the 7'2 jig/worm because i broke one of my rods, and i would have to say it preformed equally aswell as the mojo bass, the mojo weight less than the W&M but i felt the W&M had a slight advantage in rod sensitivity and backbone strength

I went to a fishing expo here a couple weeks ago and picked up the 7'6" swimbait/carolina rig for $75...yeah, $75! I have used it 3 times since then and absolutely love it. I am going to be switching all my rods to them. I bought the Crankin rod for my dad, and he really likes it too, and i think he is the pickiest person about rods that i know!
