I am getting ready to order some jigs from our sponsors. Just wanted to know what is your favorite jig. I personally like a flipping jig with a super chunk but maybe I need to expand and try something new. I normally use a jig that has rattles because of the stain water in the lake I fish at. Do you like a jig with or without a rattle and do you find it makes any difference?

I will use rattles in heavy stain, muddy, or night conditions. Anything else, I normally don't use them. I like a jig chunk, but it makes for a bulky presentation. I normally go for something like a paca chunk as opposed to normal chunk unless the fish are just really hammering the jig. As fro the rattle making a difference, in the conditions above, I find that it does.

Thanks for the reply beast. I had one of our sponsor suggest the paca chunk. The water in the lake I fish in gets much clearer during the winter months. I may start going without a rattle when the water clears up.

I use a Jewel Eakins jig with a Yamamato Flappin' Hog trailer 99% of the time. This jig works great in thick cover and rocks and the flappin' hog really makes a difference. My regular partner and I fishing a club tourny this summer each of us in a different boat with a different partner caught 2-1 what our partner did throwing the same color and size but different brand jig and trailer. We finished 2nd-3rd with a 4 lb. kicker I caught on a ceank being the difference in our finishing order. We had twice the weight as everyon else behind us, the guy that won lives on the lake and has been fishing it nearly daily for 20 years.

Poison Tail from Karu with a Gene Larew Salt Craw Hooked up. I will add a rattle as the water gets dingy.

Lonnie Stanley or Strike King jigs with Uncle Josh #11's pork in black, blue or orange and brown for winter time.

Same jigs only dressed up with soft plastic crawworms during the Spring - Fall months.

I use the rattle jigs when I'm fishing extremely thick cover and or if the water is really muddy.

tipped with berkley chiggercraw (sapphire blue). its an ugly combination but amazing in stained water.

instead of rattles i prefer a little smelly jelly...

Hey BamaCoast when fishing grass I like the Poison Tail from Karu with the wire hook guards nothing else comes through the stuff better for me, as a trailer in that type of cover I just use a zoom super chunk or twin tail grub also by zoom "Fat Albert"

When fishing docks, cypress trees, rocks or anything other than think grass I love the Karu football jig but use a bunch of things for trailers based on how much movement I want and or how fast/slow I want it to fall. I have become fond of the big bite baits yo-mama but also like the chunks at times and the back half of a brush-hog, a chiggercraw, or the lake fork craw worm.

As far as rattles I used to always use them but have change to almost never using them.

I like rattles at times at night or stained water or sometimes just to change things up while prefishing to see if the bass care for the jig with rattles over one without. But most of my rattle rig fishing is done in cold water so I can pitch/flip the jig to whatever I'm fishing and than tap the line to get the rattles to make noise but not move the jig out of the strike zone.

In grass I am a KaRu poison tail fan. Like Fogy said The twisted Stainles weed guard is awsome when fishing Grass. When Flipping wood I like the KaRu Football Jig. As far as Trailers, I use a Twin or single tail grub when imitating baitfish and either a Zoom super chunk or Paca Craw For craw patterns. When the water really gets cold I will use a pork trailer if I really want to slow down the fall of the jig.

Fogy, Shawn,

I am going to try out the Karu Poison Tail Jig. I really like the the stainless weed guards. Right now the water in the lake is high and I think the bass are way up in the grass around the edge of the lake. I have tried a lot of different chunks and keep going back to the zoom super chunk. They just work.

Hey Bama one thing to do when using the Poison Tail is to play with the weed guards and bend them the way that works best for your style of fishing. For me I bend them both up and out so the weed guards and the hook bend makes a tripod. If the grass is mixed in around a lot of wood Ill bend them more up and out so when the jig makes contact with a branch the guards help prevent roll over, because once a jig rolls on a branch your hooked.

I ran across some jigs produced by Phenix Rod company out in California..these jigs were sold under the brand LureLogic (house brand for the old Bass World West-one of the best bass tackle shops I've ever been in)...just an arkie style head with premium pain, Mustad ultrapoint hooks and a cross-eye line tie...the jigs I ended up liking the most were there 'casting' models...little lighter wire hook, medium stiffness brush guards...and some great colors...

Paired with a zoom super chunk or super chunk jr (depending on time of year) and a little smelly jelly and I just KNEW I was going to get bit...and more important, would get the hook in them...

Ordered a few more direct from the company last year...

I've done pretty well with the Explosive Tackle Football jig in Blue/Black. The water that I fish is mostly stained and have been doing very good.

Also with reguards to getting stuck, I havent had too much problem when I am in the middle of thick cover. I think alot of that has to do with the head design as well as a very good rod. No foul sets!! Just my 2 Cents!!

Watermelon Fat Ika or a 4.5 inch Alluring Beaver Craw as the Chunk

No Rattles , never use em

1/2 oz War Eagle football ( love the wide gap hooks ) with a Paca craw.

When I downsize i like a Bitsy bug 3/16 oz blk/blue wiith a Saphire blue Zoom swiming chunk. This little combo always puts fish in the boat, not always the biggest, but when theres a lot of pressure it never fails me, and occaisionally you'll get a toad

The War Eagle jig has worked very well for me. I am out and need to get over to bass pro shop and pick up some more. I only caught 5 bass today. 4 on a strike king pro jig with a denny bauer chunk.

Lots of jigs out there to like for whatever conditions or cover you are fishing. This year for a trailer I used the chigger craw alot, but when the water temp gets cold I go to a Uncle Josh No.10-A Big Daddy Pork Frog. I should also say I like to go for the big bite.
