Hydro Air Pump on 187
« on: September 18, 2009, 12:41:02 PM »

Hey guy's and girls, I'm new to the site and have a '98 Champ 187.  I've got a question regarding the Hydro Air pump.  I'm pretty sure mine has gone out and the only way I see to change it is to remove the gas tank and access it through the back wall behind the livewell's.. Has anyone had this problem and if so, how did you change that pump?  Thanks in advance.

Does the tank have to come out on your model?? my 94 had a wrap around tank that fit across the back and there was a panel you removed to gain access to all of the live welll pumps and valves,

I'm pretty sure it needs to come out.  I have the horseshoe shaped gas tank (48 gal) and all of my other pumps are located in the very bottom of the boat near the transom.

I have a 187 and they certainly dont make it easy to get to that area.  You have a rear access panel that comes off and you should be able to get to it from there.  You might neet to pull the oil reservoir and oil shelf to make it a bit easier.  That should do it. I would do everything and anything to not have to pull the gas tank.  That would be a mother to pull.    Keep me posted and good luck.

Thanks Clarker2K,  I got it changed out this past Sunday.  Had to pull the feul tank although it was'nt as bad as I thought.  Had a buddy of mine come help me and it took about an hour.  But that's taking a break every once in a while in this SWLA heat to rehidrate.  ~beer~
