Need Help on Cooters Pond
« on: October 05, 2009, 07:29:39 PM »

I will be there this weekend (10 and 11) fishing a 2 day championship. I have never fished the AL River before I would love some help. Baits, Techniques, anything you give will be greatly appreciated.
How far of a run is it to the dam?
Any shoals or LU getters I need to know about?

Thanks,
Joe

It's around 40+ miles to the dam. Main thing is watch Nav bouys, you can run out of water in a hurry. Only tips I can give are, it fishes like a river should. Spots in the river, LM in the backwater. Good luck.

Swede!!!

If Aaron and I are able to stay on the fish we found today for the next two days, You're gonna be in trouble! Our best five weighed more than KVD"s 1 day weight did last week down here. ~shade

I fished at Miller's Ferry Thursday and Friday.  I caught most of my fish and the better fish by concentrating on points with lots of current.  I would throw a carolina rig until my arm fell off if I were you guys with a 1/2 oz. weight and let it drift right into those big spots' mouths!!

well, it was a subpar performance on Swede and I's part, but it was a great time and i learned a bunch!  Joe and Aaron had a 22nd finish and Swede and I were in 31st........either way, neither won any money.....

Lets see,on fri.Joe and I had over 20lbs easy(PRACTICE).First tournament day big fish decided not to bite but we still caught quite a few (12.36).Sun we had decent bite till about 9:30/10:00 but we could not land any.So we ended up with 3 fish for 5+lbs.
All fish were caught on either buzzbait/frog or worm. All in all it was a great place to fish and I look forward to going back.

The team that won is tough to beat on the Alabama River.  Chris Rutland also won the 200+ boat tournament the week prior.  Congrats to them for a couple of good sacks of river fish weighed.  If you are going to be the best - you have to beat the best.  Even with the lousy finish this is still one of my favorite places to fish.

Of note - Millers Ferry is the site of the regional next year, Lake Seminole the year after that, and Lake Jordan the year after that.
