Sunday morning started out rough someone changed the lock to the stoarge lot where I keep my boat so I was locked out. Unwilling to give up I bank fished on Tholocco and I am now sold on frogs. Threw a Scum Frog Popper and was only getting slaps with it so switched to a Ribbit brand frog and started getting them in. Only had two rods with me and would switch from frog to buzzbait and finally just kept with the frog. Frog won hands down. Everything I pulled in was under 2lbs but it was fast and fun for about an hour in the morning. Made the best of it, now just need to get out there on the boat again and find some weight.
On a side note, is it habitat or genes that cause some bass to have such little color to them?

I haven't fished the lake since before the dam was rebuilt and the lake stocked. Back in the day, 80's, it was a lot of fun and I could always catch a few fish. I've heard a lot of good things about it now. I was temped to go walk the dam a while back and wet a lure but weather and family stuff nixed that.
I use to do good on the dam, at engineer beach and on the main lake channel up north where it gets real curvy. My largest was 8.5 lbs many years ago.
Soon as I get a boat again I'll be on Tholocco more.

About your color question if the water is real dirty heavily stained they will be a lighter color or the fish have been deep and are just moving up. Deep fish are usually very light in color and shallow fish that have been up and gotten sun or around grass will be much darker. It's their ability to blend in with their surrounding's and camoflage themselves.

Thanks for the knowledge there Bass1cpr.
I have always had fair luck on Tholocco but nothing with much wieght to it. Place is still a riddle I cant figure out, what is hot one day is cold the next. And for a small lake there are always so many boats out there, gets a bit cramped. But its hard to turn down when its so close. I havent been out this winter, I got a new rod/reel that I really want to test out. You had any luck out there this winter?

Very good.
Just a heads up that I will be out of town for a funeral in Virginia all next week but will be back at work on the 2nd Feb anytime after 14:30.
Looking forward to talking and maybe fooling a few fish onto the hooks with you this year.

Is tholooco the lake on the base? If it is I was on it when it was just a swamp being built in 1970's. We use to catch snakes out there or strand somebody and see howlong before they were surrounded by snakes. Great fun there back then.

Yep, that's the one!
Now it's 640 acres of good fishing. Back in the 90's the floods broke the dam and it took about 5 years before a base commander thought it should be a lake again. They made is a good fish habitat before filling.
