Champion/Johnson Owners
« on: November 11, 2009, 05:08:47 AM »

I would like to hear how you guys like your Johnson engine good or bad, I am asking this because Iam looking at a 96 181 scx/elite powered by a 2003 175 johnson????The boat is a DEAL at the price its only a little over average retail of just the engine. i have owned a 19ft champion in the past with a mariner engine and loved it, i have had  mercury's and Yamaha but never a Johnson. My only dealings with them i can remember is the one my uncle Lacey had when i was a kid, I can still see him with the carb tore apart while we was fishing most every trip out  :-\

I have had my 93 Johnson 175 faststrike and never had a problem with it.  I have replaced plugs and fuel filters, but other than that it has been a strong reliable motor and has never failed me.  Compared to other motors the carburated motors are tiny!  Size comparison to my motor is probably close to a new 75hp 4 stroke.  The only reason I would hesitate is that you will get better fuel mileage with a non carbed engine.

I cant say how nice the boat is until i see it this weekend,,but i have been looking at boats strong for over 6 months and looked at a few just havent found the right deal yet. But this is the best bang for the buck I have found at 4500, thats within 600miles,, if the boat is in good condition. I found just what iam looking for in tampa a 98 19ft elite with 175hpmercury,hand control trolling motor, hyd. jack plate, lower water pick-up, lowrance front and back and champion cover just its going take 8000 to buy that boat. The market is flooded with boats right now, and lots of bigger boats for the same money, but there just not what i want. I have been lost since i sold my 94 19ft elite and have had my mind set on another champion and theres just not as many of them for sale around this neck of the woods.
