Is a 4/0 gamakatsu finesses circle hook to big for a wacky style setup? I see most people use a 2/0 or even a tiny 1/0 circle hook.
My question if for the guys using the smaller hooks. How often are you ending up with a fish that is gut hooked?
I fished senkos almost exclusively and fished them texas rigged and weightless, but at the pace you would fish a crank or jerk bait. I didn't know this was a slow presentation lure and would reel, reel, pause 2, repeat and get strikes everywhere from initial entry to water all the way to 6 feet from shore.M.
What type of orings or where do you get them for the wacky rig? I dont see them in any bass pro website or catalog.
I notice a lot of guys are using small hooks on these soft stick baits. I have a question? When using the smaller hooks I had a great deal of trouble with the fish swallowing the bait and the hook into it's gullet. After moving up to 4/0 and 5/0 EWG hooks for texas rigging did not see any big different in the amount of strikes but certainly saw a lot less problem with the fish swallowing the larger hooks. For wacky rigging had the same problem and changed last year to 4/0 circle hooks and rubber O rings and did not have a single gut hooked fish.My question if for the guys using the smaller hooks. Check out last month's Bass Master mag, it had a tip for using an old ball point pen (bottom half) as a replacement o-ring tool. No need to go and buy one esp if you have an old pen large enough to for the senko to fit inside so the ring can slip over it.
I have a stupid/rookie question. What is the point of using the O rings? Common sense would sugest to keep the hook from ripping through the worm, getting more use out of the worm before its trashed. I got one from bass pro just because I saw that you all use it. But is that all its for, or is there additional benifits? better action? better hook set?
