How about some Spinning reel favorites
« on: February 03, 2010, 04:56:56 PM »

I've been looking around a bit and never see much about spinning reels on here but EVERY better fisherman does have and uses spinning reels when the water calls for it.

How about some reel and rod combos your using. Likes and/or dislikes.
Please give model # of them too. Helps when looking for them online.

THANKS  ~c~

i really wish i could find some of the older mitchell copperheads. that is still and always will be on a rod ready for duty.

I have 3 spinning combos, but only use 2 of them often. The rods are both Korean brands, but the reels are both Shimano's. I love my Shimano spinning reels. Since I bought them both in Korea, they are both Japanese model numbers.....

1. NASCI - C3000
2. AERNOS XT - C3000

Nice looking reels Steve. The NASCI - C3000 Looks like a $200+ reel in the states. A bargain at $98 plus shipping.

Yeah, it's a super smooth reel. I used mine all last year without any troubles at all. Very nice reel.

Daiwa Excelers and Shimano Saharas for me! Daiwas are super smooth, while Shimanos are built like tanks.

I have a Sahara paired up with a 7' Med Croix triumph that I love. When I need to use a spinning set up it is defiantly my go to. I have a couple Mitchell 300s that get occasional use (usually during the walleye run) and a Abu Cardinal 300 series also sees occational use. I prefer the Abu over the Mitchells, but the Shimano blows them both out of the water.

One thing to note - I had a Mitchell 308 epicly fail on me right out of the box. It was while bringing in the fish in my profile pic. I had her deep in the weeds and the coupler that holds the handle gave out with a loud pop. It was difficult to get her in the boat with a busted reel but fleet farm replaced my reel without question.

Shimano Stradic 2500 on a Med St Croix premier
California Tackle M10 on Hurricane Redbone M rod.   (I should probably get an UL rod for this reel.)

Only negatives I've read about on the Shimano's is the bail bearings tend to stick after a while. I really like the way the Sahara stacks up price vers performance.

Anyone use the Quantum Kinetic or any other Quantum's?

I really like my Shimano Saros.  I've had a couple Quantums, a Kinetic and a Catalyst PTi.  I really liked the Catalyst until I dropped it on my garage floor and broke the rotor, no biggie right, buy a part and fix it.  Wrong, they don't make the rotor for replacement.  Oh well, no more Quantums for me....ever.

Pulled the trigger last night and have two Shimano Sahara's SH2500's on the way. Only thing I was worried about was if I should go to the SH3000 size. OH well.... done now.  :)

I agree the 2500 is perfect. I think going up a size would just add weight and have no more added value to you.

I started with an old school Mitchell 300, for me that will always reign the best

Then to the newer e 300 series of Mitchells, which in the last 2 years have greatly improved

Pflueger Trion

Well, as one of the only guys I know that fishes 98% spinning reels, even in tournaments, I'll give my input. I love Shimanos, no doubt about it. Here is my top 5 setup:

2 of these http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/spinning/spirex_rg.html
1 on a 6'6" MH Bionic Blade, 1 on a 7' Fenwick

2 of these http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/spinning/Sonora.html
Both on 7' Fenwicks

1 of these http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/spinning/Sedona_FB.html
6'6" Berkley Cobalt
All are the 2500 size, all strung with Power Pro (with mono backing of course)
Finnesse, jig n pig, crank, spinnerbaits, etc......

If you look on the features, at the bottom you'll see they are actually rated for Power Pro line as well  ;)
