sangchris lake info?
« on: January 17, 2010, 05:05:34 PM »

Does anyone know anything about Sangchris Lake?  I would like to know a couple things if anyone knows such as:

1.  Being that it is waterfowl season it says that only the "center hot arm" is the only area available to fishing.  So I was wondering if anyone knows how big the "center hot arm" area would be?

2.  Has anyone fished there in the winter time and would have an estimation of what the water temp would be this time of year in the "center hot arm?"

Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Sangchris has 3 arms, all about the same as Newton, maybe a little bigger, water temps should also be about the same, same kind of powerplant. I havent been there for 3 years but the nice thing about that lake is that almost every cove is loaded with pads. The last time i went, caught a 3-11 on spinnerbait in pads on first cast, caught quite a few all day but I dont think the quality of size is as good as Newton, but ask someone who fishes it regularly, I could be wrong. I do know that the Crappie population is good though. 25 horse limit also. Fish seem to be oriented toward shad just the same.

I have fished Sangchris, quite a bit in the winter. I can be fun if the plant is operating. If it is operating go all the way up to the discharge area. You are going to get alot of 13 and 14 inch fish put it is fun. With the new slot rule that is a good thing. Two under 15 and one over per person per day. Good luck.

well i did go back at the end of december and the hot arm was the only arm open.  A local told me the plant had been down and the water was 44 at the main ramp and only 54 all the way up the hot arm.  I never caught a fish the whole day I was there.  The banks are all so shallow and in order to find deep water you have to be sitting way out in the middle of the lake.  Didn't quite understand how to fish the lake but I did try everything.  It's nothing like Newton that's for sure.  Lake was full and there were many many many banks that had flooded bushes and trees and grass in the water and fallen down in the water and laydowns in the water but they are all in about 1-2 foot of water and you are only sitting in 3-4 foot of water.  I don't know?  I'm not sure if I'll ever make the drive back to that lake again.
