Help on Lake Norfork
« on: January 30, 2010, 05:41:12 PM »

Hey guys.  I'm a firefighter for the city of Alexandria, La.  My Dad is a detective for the Alexandria Police Dept.  He bought his second Bass Cat last year, and wants to attend the owner's tournament on Lake Norfork on May 13 and 14.  He asked me to fish with him, and of course, I accepted the invite.  I was wondering if anyone could give me any info about the lake?  I've heard that the water is VERY clear.  Here in La. every place I fish has some color or stain to it, and some are down right muddy.  I can catch em pertty good down here, but I'm not real sure about this gin clear water I've been hearing about.  As a kid, I remember vacationing on Lake Ouchita, and you could see big rocks that were 20 ft deep!  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  If I can help anyone with anything here in La, please let me know!  Thanks!

With over 1,000 boats on the water that weekend think small, spinning gear. When is the touney this year?

I don't fish Norfork very much at all, since Bull Shoals is a much better lake, Norfork is a big deep clear rocky hole, great for water sking. If the water is up there will be some flooded brush if it is down then there is no vegation to  fish at all.

I didn't fish the Bass cat touney last year, but had a friend who did and he said pulling swiming jigs through flooded brush was a good pattern.

IMO on a weekend like that that, fishing your electronics with a drop shot and finding those fish that don't come up past 20ft would be the way to go. These lakes up here can go from 20ft visabilty to chocolate milk over night and stay that way for weeks.

Good luck, should be someone along closer to the lake to help out soon.

SWEET!!!  I love to sightfish!  So they'll be spawning there in May?  The tournament is May 13 and 14.

The water will probably be gin clear and plenty of cruisers along the bank and beds. It will be a tough 2 days on hte water as I have fished it before.
Every bank will have 10-30 boats on it!
Think finesse fishing and break out the 4-6 lb green mono if you want to compete.
My neighbor has had a few top 20 finishes flipping flooded brush in gin clear water.

Best of Luck!
