What about the new FX series Skeeter...
« on: February 04, 2010, 11:07:54 AM »

In November Skeeter and Yamaha released the new Skeeter FX series boats with Four-Stroke V6 VMAX® SHO engines powering them.  These engines are quieter, faster, and more fuel efficient.  The boat is lighter, stable, and faster, with more room.

My question:  This is a "game changer" that Skeeter/Yamaha has put together.  Will it change the Game?  Everyone used to be concerned about getting there first and fastest no matter the cost...Is that still the mindset?  These boats aren't "discounted back to prev years pricing" although there are, as always, incentives.

What are your thoughts, I personally REALLY DIG this boat!  Although I am a tried and true Skeeter owner/fan.

I am a Skeeter owner also.Game changer, well maybe a speed changer. You still got to beable to catch them, even if you are the first one there. As far as the price,I have'nt heard how much they are,but they are not worth the price. No boat is really worth what we pay for,but like so many other people,I gave in and spent way more than what my boat is worth, cause that is what I wanted. But hey that is life.I seen the other day where a $150.00 dollar pair of Oakley sun glasses had .78 cents worth of materiel in them.Gets you thinking hu !!!Hope the new FX does good, but I will never own one, even if it was what I wanted,I still am a little smarter about my money than that.

Hey iclass, if you need someone to GIVE, DONATE, or HAUL OFF, the old skeeter, let me know, I'll take time out of my day to come and get it out of the garage and make room for your new one when you get home ~roflmao...IF you leave all of those OLD electronics in it, I won't even ask for any help with the FUEL or DISPOSAL FEE on the boat....LOL

p.s.- go ahead and sign the back of the title and registration, I'll bring a paper that said you donated it...for your taxes..... ~roflmao

:o :o :o :shocking: :shocking: :shocking: :shocking:  Get rid of my lil ole bug????  :'( :'( :'(  There is no way I could bear to part with her.  Even though she is slow, has old, outdated technology and can barely get up on plane. I am just too attached to the ole girl.  Sorry, besides I just wouldn't feel right for you to have to come up with the "disposal" fee, and of course I would have to fill up your truck and you know I probably can't swing that (just cheaper to keep'er)  ~c~ ~c~

So when are we wetting a line?  I have two tournaments in Feb but during the week of 2/15 - 2/19 I should be available.  Still want to hit the Bend at least once if not twice.  I think the ole girl still has it in her to handle the bend  ;)

Here's some interesting facts I pulled off the Skeeter site comparing the FX20, 20I, and ZX225:

                              FX20                        20I                   ZX225
Overall length            20'2"                       20'2"                  20'2''
Beam width                95"                         94"                    94"
Interior Depth             21"                         21"                    20"
Draft                         16"                         16"                    16"
Dry Weight              1820lbs                    1820lbs               1710lbs

Not much physical differences between the models.  I think I'll save my money and keep my ZX225.  It's paid for and I love it.  You may get there faster and look better, but I'll have a little more money for the bait monkey.

Yep, That's why I am keeping mine...I have the 20 iClass w/HPDI 250
A really "old" girl...lol

One of the sweetest boats on the market IMHO.  I am really curious about the 4 stroke though and I will be taking a test ride during the Texas Oilman's Bass Invitational.  Just have to satisfy my curiosity.  I think I'll keep my '09 though, have a few more days worth of fishing left in it...LOL  (Sorry T.T.)

I class, I recently went to the Skeeter school about the new FX series. The FX is a little different than the Iclass. The ZX has a 20 degree pad, the Iclass has a 22 degree pad (smoother ride), and the FX has a 23.5 degree pad. The rear of the boat is shaped alittle different to keep the four stoke from blowing out in tight turns. They have taken the Iclass gadgets and moved them to the FX, such as the auto locking and alarm system, as well as the digital gauges. The nose is sloped in the front, kinda like the old tidecrafts use to be. The ride is smooth, the take off is incredible to about 40 mph, the top end that I experienced was about two mph slower than my 21 I with a series 2 250, however it got there in half the time, and I have tweaked adjustments as far as jackplate and props on the Iclass, and the FX had no tweaks. The fuel consumption was almost half of what the series 2 is. Hope this helps.

Thats what I'm talking about :shocking:.  I make a decent living and struggle with how guys can afford these rigs.  Are they financing them forever or just more rich people out there than I'm aware of. :help:  I paid $14,500 for my 17 ft skeeter in 1995 with a v-6 135 Mariner, that rig now is 30K!  I would love a larger boat but dang!  Sorry to hijack your thread ~b~

Believe it or not you would be surprised. I talked to a some lenders at a boat show a couple of years ago,and they said alot of the guys buying the boats were financing them for like 12 years. I couldn't imagine paying on a boat for 12 years ~b~

Oh yeah, you can finance a boat for up to 15 years. Most of this is luxury at best. You definitely don't need a $60,000 bass boat to catch a bass. Don't get me wrong they are nice and if you want and can afford it then buy it. here's a little bit of information yall might find helpful when considering buy a boat of this price range:

If you finance $60,000 ( now remember that's just the bare cost, there's also tax, title, license, and any extras) assuming you put down enough to cover the extras, here is what your monthly payments would be:

At 6% interest ( that would be pretty good right now) on $60,000:

5 years - monthly payment $1,159.97
10 yrs - monthly payment $666.12
15 yrs - monthly payment $506.36

You think those numbers are impressive watch this:

your payback on this boat after:

5 years - $69,598.20
10 yrs  -  $79,934.40
15yrs -    $91,144.80

Good luck on your next purchase. lo

Most guys buying boats like this NEVER intend to keep them.  The deal is you are trading every 3 years.  You never have a paid off boat but you always have one that is under warraty and have Factory and dealer support.

The other thing you have to look at is these are not your avarage weekend fisherman.  most are die hard tourney fisherman and can't afford to have breakdowns so you keep new equipment.

However this crappy economy is making boat swapping hard.

Seems as if it isn't gonna stop them though, just have to work a little harder to get rid of them.  Better have some money down though and get a good deal otherwise you'll be trying to sell a boat for 40 grand and owe 45 on it.
