livewell tube question
« on: February 23, 2010, 11:24:11 PM »

my livewell tube comes from the front of the boat all the way to the back where the pump/aerator is. the wierd thing is, the tube has a three way fitting about 3 feet from the pump. the fitting conects the tube from the livewell to the tube to the pump. and the third hole just has a cap on it. the cap says valvoline or something. is this a complete redneck rig, or is there a purpose to the cap? i thought maybe by removing the cap it let air into the tube to add air to the livewell but for some reason i just think a previous owner rigged it with what he had laying around instead of buying a simple coupler for two hoses.
ideas?

Do you have a pump out system?

i dont think so no. the way it works is there is a piece on the top that water pours out of in a series of holes. i guess to add water and help add oxygen at the same time. the livewell has a tube at the top that goes directly to the outside of the boat. and there is a threaded pipe in the bottom. until now i have capped the pipe in the bottom, but after reading a little on here the point of the bottom pipe is for the livewell to fill when the boat is in water and empty when its not. so this year im going to try it without the cap.
but im still puzzled about this 3 way piece, im replacing the short piece of hose that goes from the fitting to the pump. i dont really want to leave the fitting in there if its just a rigged up piece of junk, but who knows it could serve a purpose

Leave it capped (mine has a plug in livewell to drain). You should fill it with the pump.
