In that price range, the BPS Pro-lite would be the better baitcaster for the task at hand. It sole purpose is to throw very light baits. Not to mention it's a great reel.

just looked at the Pro lite reel  it looks to be about the same Reel as the Pro Qualifier reel just a little less weight    Both reels are made by Pflueger  and seem to have the Same Spool & Bearings  & line guide and both have the DBS  Dual Braking System   So I Don't see were it will cast any better  then the Pro Qualifier reel  It just will be a little less weight

The prolite reel is definately better than the pro qualifier for light baits.  Or at least in my experience it has been. BUT I have been able to play with a super tuned shimano that belonged to Mike Cork and it was Excellent for weightless flukes and Senkos.  roll cast of 30 yds were very easy and consistent.

If I were going to set up a new weightless plastics Rig, I would buy a citaca 100 dsv off ebay and have proreel super tune it and replace the bearings with boca orange seals.  That would give you a baitcaster that you could throw anything with.  ;)

When this Prolite breaks that is exacly what I am going to do.

Thanks for the recommendation Shawn! By coincidence, I just returned 3 Citicas to lousyfisher. He was in the same situation, He wanted a quality reel at an affordable price and he wanted it to cast small baits. After looking at several recommended reels, he wanted the Citica but knew that it would not cast small baits very well off the shelf. With all the brakes turned off and the tension loose, the new Citica had about a 6 second spin time. I Pro tuned the reels for him and used the stock bearings. They now have a 45 second spin time. Annual cleanings and maybe an occasional fresh drop of Xtreme reel + on the spool bearings will keep them casting silky smooth for a long time. Boca Orange seal bearings would make them cast even easier, but are not necessary for most users.

On upgrading the bearings Do you replace all 3 Spool Bearings  Or just the 2 main ones and leave the bearing under the cast control Cap stock ?

That depends on the reel. The Citica E reels only have 2 bearings. If the reel has 3 spool bearings, you need to change all 3 or it will only spin as good as the weakest bearing. Some reels have 3 bearings, but 1 only supports the pinion, you don't need to change that. Revo and some Daiwa reels have a disengaged spool and those don't need a good bearing under the cap.

I do have a Like New Chronach 100  The Pearl color one   any way to make it cast lures under 1/4oz better   It will cast 3/8oz & up  lures   Super great  30-40 yards  but under 1/4 not so good .

yes, a pro tune will add a bunch of distance and ease of cast to that reel.

I am going to try to get a couple of the Citica 100 d bought and send them to ya.  I like the Citica d models better than the curados. After the they are super tuned They are SLICK!  I guess shimano figured that out and they sure downgraded the E models.

Has anyone tried the new Pro1000 from US reels yet?  Being a pitcher, it seems that system would work great and it should work well with lite lures?  :-\

I just finished a Citica 100 D last week. Verys nice reel. I don't understand why Shimano discontinued that reel. I would think it should have been popular. Maybe it was putting to much competition on the Curados and upper level reels?

Found this Japanese Super cast 12Gram spool that will fit the Chronarch 100  Do you guys think it would really improve to casting ability for the Chronarch 100 for lite baits  Line cap is 12/100

Not as much as good clean bearings, lubed with xtreme reel +,  would improve it. The best made spool in the world will still struggle if the bearings are dirty or overlubed.

I sell it my DIY section. http://shop.proreelservice.com/  The answer is for spool bearings, absolutly better, if you want max distance, max smoothness and ease of cast. You can cast all day with half the effort and your arm won't be nearly as sore at the end of the day. Check out my post in the reels section called DIY lubrication http://www.ultimatebass.com/bass-fishing-forum/index.php/topic,71565.0.html.

OK just got back from Bass Pro Picked up a Pro Qualifier PQX10SD   &  A Shimano Citica 200E   & after Cleaning the Spool bearings & re lubing them with  Shimano Reel oil  There Is No Comparison THE CITICA WINS Hands DOWN For Free Spool   Pro Q  12Sec  The Citica  25sec  Then i spooled both reels with same line (120yards)  then retired  Citica 49sec   Pro Q 22sec  The spool in the Pro Q weights 22 grams  the Citica spool  14.5 grams  will try casting a 1/8 trap tomorrow and see  which reel  performs the best at casting distance .   I do like the Handle on the Pro Q better then the Citica handle

Had some time to test cast both reels & WOW Was I shocked  The OLD saying don't Judge a reel by its FREE SPOOL Is Definitely True    The Pro Qualifier is a amazing reel !
It casted as good as the Citica  with every Lure i tried  Plus The Pro Q   was much quieter &  smoother then the citica   When casting the Citica you could hear the brakes making that buzzing noise  and on  retrieve you can hear the gears meshing ,THE  PRO Q on casting  was almost dead Quite  all i could hear was the Line coming off the spool and flying throw the Rod Guides  and on retrieve it was silky smoooooth  But that could be because the PRO Q was only 5:2.1  & Citica is 6:3.1  so the Citica pinion gear is turning a little Faster  Plus I  Like the Dual Braking System on the Pro Q much better too made for more Fine Tuning of the spool  To me the Pro Q Felt More Solid  I think its because the Citica  is lighter in weight  I am use to the weight of my Chronarch 100A Reel  BUT Both Reels DON'T Feel as Solid Built as MY Chronarch   will post more when i have had more time fishing both reels
