I lived on Chicot for 2 years, but it has been awhile ago. If the water is rising, go North, if falling stay in the middle.  The outlet to the river will be key, see what the water is doing there.  There is a small point with a pocket around the corner when crossing the lake from what used to be an old store, I don't know if it is still there, but that point and pocket was my best area to catch early fish.  Of course the Cypress in the North end will be great if the water has warmed up any, but by what I can tell it's not.  You can always catch cold water fish there flipping the brush on the channel going to the Mississippi.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info. I have fished the State Park end but have not been on the other end. The water temps are running in the high 40's. Maybe they will turn loose by the weekend.

Thanks a lot!!!

If it stays that cold, First work the pocket I talked about, you can see it on the map then go straight to the channel going to the river, if it was me.

Anytime I can help!  That's why I'm here on UB, it's what we do!

Is the pocket in the main lake or in the state park part? I am not very familiar with much of the lake, but I sure appreciate your info. Does the lake drain on the south end, maybe around ditch bayou, as you were talking about the channel going to the Mississippi river?

There is a man made Channel which runs to a pump station from the Mississippi River.  The channel is on the town side and just before you get the the Lake Village area. You will see it on the Rt. when your running up toward town.  That is the only true way to know what the water is doing, they are even, pumping in or pumping out, you can adjust your fishing to what is happening there.

If you bring it up on the satelite map you will see it just South of the Bridge, Mid-lake (Lakehall Road)  The point I'm referring too is straight across, no way to miss it.  Look at the Satelite and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Hope this helps,

I never fished Lake Chicot this early but have made some summer trips and a fall trip. I love that little lake. A friend of mine's parents owned some land up there and we would go every year. They sold their property and moved to Toledo Bend about 12 years ago and I haven't been back since. Any way good luck with your tournament, hope yall boat a huge stringer.

Thanks, I know about where you are talking about. I will pull up the satellite picture. It's great to be able to hook up with other fishermen and share with each other. I hope that I can help you if you ever get into the northeast part of our state. I'll let you know how it turns out. Again, thank you.

Well, didn't get to fish our tournament on Chicot. Had a death in our church family and service was Saturday. That's the life of a pastor, but no regrets, the Lord's work comes first. 13 lbs. won it with big bass 3.3 lbs. I think 5 lbs. was second. Most of the guys had a tough day. So, on to our next tourney on the 20th on Bonne Idee, just out of Mer Rouge.
