It won't be long now
« on: March 02, 2010, 08:00:28 PM »

I went by a local pond today and it was half open water.  It is very shallow and melts very quick.

I might have to start thinking about a trip down to Pekin to hit up Powerton or Spring Lake.  I normaly can get out and get some fish down there long before we can get any up here ;D

If you have any extra open water send it north.

Hey if you come down to Pekin, you had better let me know, I am 45 mins away at most, and I am perfectly willing to slum ride along..  :-)

I can't believe how hard spring fever has hit me.  I actually considered just going to fish a couple of small rivers near by last weekend and I don't think it broke 40 degrees yet.  Close though and temps this weekend are looking pretty promising...45, 47, 50 are the forecasts Fri thru Sun (or 47 48 53 on a different forecast)  Just finished oiling up my favorite trio of reels and looking to do some more before the weekend.....

yeah can not wait for the river to open up get some walleyes stock up in the freezer before the bass season begins, with the 50 degree weather the ice fishing should be quite good this weekend

Yeah, nothing like ice fishing with out being all huddled up in the shack.  I might do that or try my luck for some walleyes again.  The rock river here is ice free and a few guys have been getting them from the bank.  There is another spot they are getting some, but I have never tried it this time of year.

If I had my trolling motor back, I would already be fishing Powerton lake for bass.

I think my hectic weekend routine will get a break so maybe I can get out this weekend to.  I'm going to do an archery tournament on sat and depending on how good I do I might have to shoot sun to.  But really hoping to hit the ice.  Can't wait for that shit to be gone.  lo  I was catching bass last year by the end of march and was already putting some good numbers and good fish in the boat by april 4th.  Not sure its going to happen this year.

This is my first fish last year.  I think I caught it on march 17th.  The date on the camera was wrong, but clsoe guess I think.

definately and with the looks of the 14 day outlook on wqad it might not be long!!  What do you think the river will do this spring?  Think it will get high?  I heard some people say its going to be similar to the floods of 93, but I kind of doubt that.  I just hope we get alittle more water than last year.

I looked at the gateway tournaments, but I would miss half of them because of BBQ contest that I have already signed up for.  There are some really good teams that fish gateway.  They always have good numbers

If I'm going to throw a bunch of money away at tournaments this year I would rather throw it away in a circuit that makes a difference.  Bass world, AC, BFLS. Something that if I do good I have a chance to move on and go somewhere else.  As much as I would like to fish every tournament I can this year, I'm still a little money shy after being layed off for so long and barely making it so its still tough for me to gamble all of my money away right now.

gateway tournaments rewards there top teams better then any other division in this area.  It can be nice to go somewhere else but it is nice with gateway that you fish for standings money and prizes at the end of the year.
