baitcaster twisting line
« on: March 06, 2010, 05:39:13 PM »

I have read some reviews on some bait casters that say that they twist line, anybody ever had any problems with this????

I never new that they would twist line and it is hard for me to see how that is possible with the way the spool is on a bait caster.  Any idea where this came from??

I can see line twist being caused by lures that spin on the line, but can grasp any way that a baitcaster itself could cause that.

Exactly!  If the line on a baitcaster is getting twisted, take a look at the lure, not the reel.

The only time I had line twist with a baitcaster was when using In-Line spinners without a swivel.

I really have he## fishing a tube, but it is not the reel. Could it have been talking about those new type reels (can't think of the brand) that don't have a line guide but some kind of arm that directs the line ?

That is what I was thinking...I couldn't see how it was mechanically possible for it to twist line while retrieving it.  Thanks for confirming what I thought to be correct...You are all good people  lo ~shade lo

You're talking about the new U.S. Reel Company model without the levelwind, right?  I don't see how that could put twist into the line either.  It has to be the lure doing it, that's the only possible way.

No, the reels I was talking about when I made this thread was traditional low profile baitcasters.   I think it was on some reel reviews for some Gander Mountain reels...I think...

A lot depends on how you spool the line onto the reel.  If you aren't careful you can end up with a line twist before you ever make your first cast

Yeah, thats it.  www.usreel.com    It has what they call an angled bar levelwind or see-saw levelwind. Also the spool spins backwards and the teeth are on the inside of the gears. I have no idea what all that would do.

Well, based on what I've seen of them, they work amazingly well, cast like a dream and the levelwind works great.

Now, how well they hold up?  That I can't say because I haven't gotten one yet.  But one of these days I'll get one and I'll be able to let you know...

Were these reviews that customers just posted to the store website? Like the reviews on the BPS website, or were they legitimate product reviews published on a website or in print?
