Registration Stickers
« on: March 06, 2010, 06:38:17 PM »

This may be a “dumb” question, but what is the best way to you remove the registration sticker tags from the bow of the boat to put new yearly ones on?? This is the first year that I need to do it on my boat and was wondering if there were any good “tricks”?? It’s on a fiberglass boat and I don’t want to scratch it. I really don’t want to just place the new one over the old either…

I appreciate the help!

Use a little patience and the following will be leave your rig without a scratch
Get a plastic or hard rubber type squeegee.  Have your boat out in sun, warm day is just fine.  A hair dryer on low setting is ok, do not use any other type of heat gun.  The sun will warm up the surface and make the sticker glue pliable.  Use the squeegee the start on a corner and slowly pull back.  Use a mild soap solution to wash/rub the excess glue off.  Dry and apply new stickers.

after you get the sticker off, if you want all the residual glue gone, then use goo gone or lighter fluid (they are the same thing ) or some type of orange cleaner.
don't use acitone, it'll mess up the finish.
I just put the new one on top of the old one.

There is some citrus stuff called Goo Gone available at many stores that I have found works well and doesn't eat paint.

RushFan is right to suggest the hair drier. And, in addition to the Goo Gone, WD-40 is an excellent cleaner for the glue residue.

The only thing I have ever found WD-40 good for.
