telescoping rod for flipping and pitching
« on: March 12, 2010, 04:21:58 PM »

I picked up a 7'6" BPS Graphite rod in MH action for flipping and pitching baits today.  I did not realize that it was a telescoping model until I got home.  The bottom 8 inches is connected to the rod seat and handle, and the rest is another piece.  I was wondering if I should take it back and get another or if this will work.  I am just worried about the sensitivity of a rod like this.  I am afraid that it will not be as good as a traditional type rod.  Was hoping that some of you may be able to help answer that question for me.  I am going back in the morning to get some Excel line and was going to take it back if you all thought that would be the best thing for me.

Thanks for the help in advance.........

I have never used one of the telescopic handled flippin' rods but I always thought it was a good idea. Depending on your situation (How you get your rods to the water) an 8 ft fod can be a pain to haul. I just bought a 7'11" Croix flippin' rod and I have to tuck the thing into the sun visor when hauling it in my escape.

I use 2 telescopic rods and they have never given me a problem.  I typically throw them with heavier weights or large baits like traps, swimbaits, c-rigs, and punching baits.  And like Joshawa said, they are easier to transport.

I have 2 Croix's and a Daiwa.   The St. Croix rods are very sensitive. I know their prolly is but I can't tell the difference between the telescoping and the non-telescoping.  They fit in your rod lockers a whole lot better too!
