Crappie report please
« on: March 18, 2010, 10:28:48 AM »

I have the afternoon off and would like to hit an area lake. Any crappie report would be appreciated. Cypress, Black Bayou Benton, Cross and Coolies are options.  Thanks.

Last weekend I was in BoBo hole and caught a 2 pound plus crappie in 4 ft of water on a beaver type bait! I don't know why you couldn't do the same in coolies. It was in amongst some timber so coolies might be perfect. Haven't heard about them pulling up on any other lakes except Grand Bayou.

They have been biting fair to good on Caddo, some are using jigs but I think the bite may be a little better on shiners. I talked with a boat fishing the trees out away from Jap Island the other day that morning they had seven, but said they did good the day before with 22. Also talked with a few fishermen that have been catching them in Jeems Bayou.

They are still catching them drifting deep water on Cypress...fishing shiners just off the bottom.

Thanks to all that responded. Spent the afternoon at Collies. Caught 5. All keepers. 4 to 5 foot of water on black and chartruse white head jig.  Headed to Jeems tomorrow (Bass fishing) and Black Lake Campti Saturday (Bass fishing). Will report.  Thanks again.

I was on Cypress Wednesday and saw an old friend of UB's (Doc Waldo).  He was fishing the reeds along the bankline on both sides of the Parks Road ramp.  He told me that he and his partner had caught 8 or so with that pattern...all males.  So it won't be long for Cypress.
