Tro Kar Hooks
« on: March 18, 2010, 03:42:55 PM »

Great hooks, but for the money they cost and the lizards the keeper tore up it's not one you would want to fish everyday. I believe I'll just keep my Owners' around.

Bait keeper?  You must have the flipping hooks?

I have a few of the WG and off set but the flipping hook is by far the best one I've ever used so far.  Yep they are $$$ but while flipping I don't lose fish any more.  I have lost fish when I get lazy and start pitching my flipping set up to trees and working it like a normal TX the off set and WG are better for the application IMHO.

Thanks for the feed back, nothing wrong with owner I like them, just went looking for a shorter shank hook to use with my KARU football weights and have found a new favorite with Trokar

The Trokar Hooks are a let down......I JUST CAN"T SEE THE HYPE!!!!  They are no better than any other hook. My hooks, which I won't mention, are FAR better than the Trokars. All HYPE, in my opinion.

I CAN see the HYPE!!! The flipping hook is phenomenal for it's application ~c~ As far as price goes, yep they are pricey and I don't understand why? Is the process to make them that much more than a regular hook, I have no idea as that is not my expertise. I can tell you that I don't and will not use any other flipping hook.

As far as the rest of the line of hooks I am still playing with them and so far have enjoyed the results. But I'm not ready to call them the all that off hooks like I do the flipping version.

There are a ton of great hooks out there. It's just what are you willing to pay, do you buy lucky craft or Bill Lewis :-\ both work great :toot:

I agree, I too see the Hype with not only the flipping hook, but the Drop Shot is the best I have used as well.

The first pack I tried were the flipping hook and as I said it is a very good hook, most of my fishing is to flip and pitch to cypress trees. The bait keeper does a good job holding the head of the bait to the hook, but with the soft plastics it really tore up the heads. It was like one fish to a bait, it's not the cost of the hook that got to me it was going through two bags of baits. I guess I could try the off set worm hooks it's just I've never been much for them. It's hard to get an old man to change his ways and everyone of us know that if a produce works well we will pay to play.

Caddo Bass, just curious if you have the new design on the bait keeper or not. Because of this very complaint they changed the keeper to have a tapered end allowing for the bait to push up onto the hook much easier?

If you do have the new version it will be hard plastic as well, I can wet the keeper with saliva and baits slide right on with no problems. The only other problem is the hook point will tear up plastic pretty quick as well because of it's sharpness.

Caddo does have a definate point on the plastics the Keeper tears up. But with the new keeper the only thing that tears them up is the keeper doing it's job. When a fish inhails the bait and you set the hook the bait can NOT slide down the hook and will tear instead.  BUT this keeps the bait out of the bite of the hook and makes for a better hookset..

Now as for anyone that says they are not sharper than any hook out there it is obvious that they have not fished with a trokar.  ~b~
There is not another hook out there that can compare to the TroKar flipping hook in sharpness period.  8)

From my experience it cuts a smaller hole than any hook out there too.  I have actually had to use pliers to get the hook out of gill plates.  ~c~

I have never used these hooks, so I can't comment about their performance, but that's a steep price for fishing hooks and I can't believe they are that much better than other hooks.  I used to fish Mustads then I went to Gammys which I hated.  I know there are a lot of Gammy fans on here, but I lost way too many fish on Gammys.  I went to Youvella (Mihatchii) and there's no looking back.  I love my Youvella hooks; they are stout and I have not lost a single fish on them.  If I didn't fish Youvella I would fish Owner.

I have not tried them simply because of the price being a little on the crazy side, however I sure do wish Tro Kar made a frog hook for I would be all over that.

Let me get this right, the old design flipping hook has a large plastic keeper. They changed that design with the newer flipping hook? If the large plastic keeper is on the old design that is what I have.

The newer flipping hook has the plastic keeper also, But, The end of it is tapered so it slides into the bait better.
