Trim/Tilt Problem
« on: August 09, 2003, 08:09:45 PM »

Does anybody know if there is a place in town to purchase used power trim parts for Force outboards.  I took mine apart and now it will only trim up but not down.

Moores Marine in Benton has somewhat of a collection of boat parts also Caddo Marine. Is something broke in yours or do you think you may have put it together wrong? Just wondering if a second shot at the rebuild might be worth it. I am was Hydraulic Mechanic by trade and I know that something as simple as a check valve put in backwards or upside down could cause the symptoms you are having

Nothing is broken.  My motor would not stay up so I took the thing apart to change the o-rings inside.  The kicker is that I had no need to take apart the section I think I put together wrong.  Just took it apart to check it.  Thanks for the info.  I'll call the shops you mentioned to see if i can get some help.  :)

I have run into several items in life just like you are talking about and the only thing I learned was (in my case) if it is not broke don't fix it ;D

Good luck, I hope they can help you out. I know of one other place I will try to dig the number up for you.....

HEY JEFF,

there is a place on grimmett drive called tri-state magneto.  they rebuilt the brushes in my trimmotoronce andthey did it for next to nothing.  anyway--if youi cannot get it working, you may want to give them a call.

drop it deep, yank it hard and draw a picture when you take it apart.  .  .

Maybe you should just keep taking it apart and putting it back together until it works.  Check every part, make sure it is properly seated....in correctly...and all that kind of stuff.

I'm not a mechanic....but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!!!

Hey Guys I got it fixed.  I took it apart and reassembled it about 10 times.  Gues that werks sometimes.  Actually,  one bearing was in the right place at the wrong time. :)  Simply reinstalling all the bearings with the cover upside down made them naturally fall into the correct places.  If anyone ever needs any advise on 1987 Force 125 power trim valve body assembly I am now almost qualified to give advise.  ( I can now break this thing down and put it back together in about 20 minutes)

Thanks again everyone for trying to help!

Papa, I'm pretty sure that your scenario works the other way; when Trey or Robbie can't afford it, then they call you.

And men are NOT stubborn; they just stand firm in their beliefs.
