Title: Zillion help!
Post by: Dam0007 on March 28, 2016, 07:29:33 AM
Zillion TWS vs Zillion TWS SV

Need help guys!

Which spool should I worry about for what. Say I wanted to convert over 6 reels

(2) crankbaits 5:1

(2) jerkbaits 6:1

(1) top water 7:1

(1) spinner, buzz, Chatterbaits 7:1

Which spool for which? I thought SV was for Finesse apps only but now I'm learning it depends on which reel its on for finesse???

I'm leaning to just going all SV and call it a day. This is the point where you start over thinking and second guessing yourself... bass fishing. Lol

Appreciate any and all feedback.

I would go all SV since there is nothing you cant do with that spool. Plus, the frame and build is more user friendly being better to palm. Me personally, I dont care for the TWS system, its more hype than anything. I would just get a bunch of SV103's, its basically the same as the OG Zillions.

TWS doesn't make or break the purchase for me. Have a couple Tats which I didn't like at first but they grew on me lol mainly didn't like the body/palm ability. But that was also in conjunction with the omen gen1 reel seats. Watched a video of a guy casting a weightless trick worm with the zillion SV 40 yards without thumbing the spool and no back lash, in my head I was like SOLD!!! Lol

The SS sv103?? Confused lol

Also looks like the zillion SV is the Tatula CT frame?? Am I right or wrong?

The SV103 is the old school zillion frame with an SV spool minus the twing system.

Oh so the SV 103 not the SS SV103. The non SS has the oval guide that's what you guys are talking about? If I just stick with zillion vs/ zillion SV I wouldn't be as confused as a already am lmaooooo

Actually the oval guide one is off the table. Not available in gear ratios I want. The SS is and it's right around same price as Zillion

Sv spool is the best that Daiwa makes. No sense in settling for second place when you can win outright.

That's why I don't understand the pricing is the same for both zillions

Learned today that the Zillion TW is being phased out by the SV model. Doesn't make sense seeing as how tat and tat type R, tat CT and Tat CT type R are all still being made providing options.

Zillion SV has a smaller than normal TWS. Smaller than its Non SV counterpart.

And it's roughly 40 yards of line difference between the 2.

I'm thinking for my self grab 2 regulars in 5:1 and SV in the rest.

Also Steez is coming out soon with the TWS.
Title: Re: Zillion help!
Post by: LgMouthGambler on March 29, 2016, 06:51:03 AM
In my opinion the Zillion TWS became a flop because it was based off the Tatula. So where was the greatness of the Zillion? To me it was lost in that model, much like Shimano had with the Curado G series. What I dont understand is why they redesigned the Zillion, but then also let the Tatula share the same frame AGAIN!? To me it almost defeats the purpose to buy the Zillion. In reality, the main difference is the SV spool, other than that they are dang near identical. The Steez going TWS is interesting, and looks good, but I still dont get the TWS hype, and really see not a big enough advantage the extra moving parts. I see what they are trying to do, but I still just dont get why they did it the way they did. Smart thing was coming back with the OG Zillion style in the SV103.

What do I know I've been a Shimano guy for over a decade lol just started getting into Daiwas stuff lol you telling me a 103 is a OG zillion is like saying hey the alphabet has a 'T' in it. Lmaooo now if you were to say the Chronarch E is a OG curado with white paint I'd know exactly what you mean.

Cabelas has the Zillion TW on clearance  for $250 and I have gift cards. Is there any difference between this and the JDM version. I'm talking strictly the TW not the SV
Title: Re: Zillion help!
Post by: LgMouthGambler on March 30, 2016, 08:59:52 AM
The JDM has magseal (not a fan) and better bearings. I would say you are better off with the USDM version. You can always get a set of Hedgehog Studio bearings later on.

I just recently got my first Daiwa. Took LMG's advice. Trust me Daiwa's naming convention for stuff is absurdly ridiculously stooopid. Took me forever to figure out what spools actually fit on my reel. :-(

All I can say is good luck! lol

Technique specific rods... Now reels Carolina Rig reel lmao obviously a ton of sarcasm. If I end up doing a full Shimano > Daiwa conversion I'm definitely getting this as a C Rig is one my favorite techniques. Plus this thing looks cool!

Honestly that would be awesome on a BFS Reel. Application like drop shot with 6-7lb line or less even, the audible indicator would be great actually. That's really only reason I only have 2 spinning outfits.

Why are you jumping ship on shimano man? ???  :-\

I'd keep the Met and the scorpions....I don't think you'll find a better hardbait reel.

Anyway I dunno I know if they are in excellent condition you can fetch about 180 for the scorps that will cover your american legacy zillions there.....and the met should get you around 275 right they go for 3 ish new....The 4 reels that will kill you is the citicas and the curado Gs I see citica G's doing like 100.....In the end I think you'd come away with 8-10 reels.... That is just an honest guess based on not all the shimano are zillion price wise, it's impossible.

Daiwa Shimano etc should offer a Tournament Angler finance card. Like replace 30 reels at once and no interest for 24months lol you can re do all the appliances in your house this way.  A carpenter can upgrade his tools same way. Not saying it's the smartest way to upgrade but I'd be all over it.... Lol

Idk just want to switch it up. At minimum switch out all the Chronarchs. Then all my moving baits will be Dobyns / Daiwa, leaving all my bottom contact 13 / Shimano. Just really digging the Daiwa stuff lately.

What I'm prob gonna do is just start getting 2 at a time and post what I'm replacing for sale then when that sells get the next 2 so forth and so on.
Title: Re: Zillion help!
Post by: MCS on April 01, 2016, 09:22:17 PM
That sounds like a legit plan....have you had an alphas sv or an ss sv? I think the alphas sv would be a pound for pound replacement or upgrade on the scorpions. You probably get almost what you gonna pay  for the new reel.....

My first Daiwa was a AirD. My next 2 were Tatulas my fiancé bought me for my birthday. Huge surprise! Then I grabbed a Tatula R. Sold the AirD to my buddy already. The 3 Tats didn't see the water for almost a full season due to them + 13 reel seat. As I got more Dobyns I started using them again. So now that I'm using em more and more they've grown on me a lot. So in a nutshell these are the only ones I've owned.

The old fuego and advantages were the shit....But the ballistics are sweeeeet spinning reels. Pics we need Pics  ;PHO) Nice pick up enjoy it.

Daiwa just got this reveros kind budget spinner but it looks pretty good too. I always like diawa spinning reels better than shimano.

Ordered 2, the 2000 and 2500. 2000 is for a drop shot Rod that's in the process of being built and the 2500 for my other custom, shakey head Rod. So that's out of the way. Next reel I'm gonna wait for the Zillion HLC then hopefully the rest of the JDM zillions prices will drop a little more.

HLC looks bad ass! The concept of the braking adjustment, I honestly don't know if it will make a difference. I'm casting 3/4oz on the c rig. Some guys do 1/2oz, others 1oz, I just stick with the 3/4 so now that I think about it, should be set and forget!

Have like a dozen rods up for sale on BBC once those start going, going to start the replacement purchases.

I know how much you guys like troubleshooting. Fix this list lol

Add a JDM Daiwa Reel and Gear Ratio to each empty slot

Casting:
Fury 705CB - Squarebills - Tat 6.3:1
Fury 735C - Frogs - Tat 6.3:1
Fury 795SB - A Rig - Tat HD JDM 6.3:1
Savvy 663 - Flukes - Tat Type R 6.3:1
Champ 684CB - Jerkbaits -
Champ 685CB - Topwater -
Champ 704CB - 4-8ft cranks -
Champ 705CB - 10-18ft cranks -
Champ 702C - 3/16oz Jig -
Champ 703C - 3/8-1/2oz T Rig -
Champ 734C - SpinnBuzzChat -
ChampX 703C - 3/8-1/2oz Jig -
ChampX 743C - Keitechs -
ChampX 744C - C Rig -

Spinning:
Custom 1 - Shakey Head - Ballistic 2500ex
Custom 2 - Drop Shot - Ballistic 2000ex

For Crig I'm leaning towards Zillion HLC and squarebill I'm thinking do Tat Crazy Cranker 5.5:1 which is JDM only in lefty.

Unless I end up with a dozen Steez in this list I'm gonna just go ahead and order them all in one shot then sell everything left over. If I end up keeping a few Shimanos I think the Met XG would be a good be on the Keitech Rod.

Why do the scorpions have to be lefty  ~rant

YES met XG on the Keitech sounds great! Always keep at min 1 shimano :-*......I like the looks of the new zillion HLC, definitely do get one for the C-rig....Because I never will and well I can at least look at your pics and pretend  ;PHO)  lo Sounds like your gonna have a helluva line up there enjoy  ;D ;)

The only 2 I would really keep are the scorpions for the 684 & 685. Those reels are just too good to be true lol

during practice as I had a Chronarch E for squarebills I switched to the Tat throwing a 1.0 Strike King squarebill. The E was getting maybe 20 yards. The Tat 30+ yards easy even into the wind a good distance. No backlashes. Tried again the next practice day between the Scorpion and Tat, not as good as the Tat but wayyyy better than the E. I did this same scenario a month ago throwing a 110 Jr. No other Shimano can hold a match to the Scorp. It's cut and dry which is the better performer. But the Tat just does it for me. The Scorp can perform as good but you have to be a little more mindful thumbing the spool the Tat not so much, more user friendly you can say. Idk hated the Tats when I got them but then again was because the 13 reel seat. Now that I'm all Dobyns and the reel seat is normal I have zero complaints on comfort. I'm sold lol just wish they didn't skimp on the USDM models.

I hear you, that scorp can sling a popx or a shadow rap like nothing I even seen....I just put a set of hedghog ZR bearings in mine. It's just silly now.

I fished a friends tatula once, I didn't really have a problem with it being too big. I think the 200 shimanos palmed worse for me. wide doesn't bother me its the taller reels I don't like. I never got a tatula because I heard the early versions would groove the line guide and frames with braid.

Once I got the scorp it was all over, like why switch lol.

that's why I don't like the Met for the jig Rod I rest my index finger across the top under the line guide, the distance from the thumb bar to the top is like a inch longer than any other reel. Those bearings gotta be sick. I just flush and lube the stocks for the most part. Did a handful of orange seals on some reels and didn't justify the price tag for me anyways.

Yeah that is what I hear they are like a stretch limo  lo I am interested in the low end like Casitas and upgrading parts like bearings and gears. they seem to have nicer ergos and some decent features.

They are not too bad, I picked them up at the tackle trap 8.99 a pop.

So as my research continues here's what I'm thinking so far

C Rig - Zillion HLC when it's released
Squarebills - Tatula JDM 5.5:1 'Crazy Cranker'
Keitechs - Tatula HLC 8.1:1
3/8-1/2oz Jigs - Zillion SV 9.1:1

Then maybe (2) Tat CT Type Rs for the 702 and 703 pitching setups to keep costs down.

From what I'm reading the Tat HLC is designed to bomb casts as far as possible but the Zillion HLC adds additional braking for the heavier presentations. Can't find anything to confirm wether or not the Tat HLC adds more breaking or not which I wouldn't want on Keitechs.

Placed my first conversion order

JDM Tatula 8.1:1 HLC - for Keitech
JDM Tatula 5.5:1 'Crazy Cranker' - for Squares as I reel way too fast for my own good with the 6.3:1 lol
JDM Zillion SV 9.1:1 XXHL - for 3/8-1/2oz jigs

Now I wait patient lol

Line up is gonna be a work in progress as I'll be experimenting with which reel for what application. Once I'm comfortable and I'm sure I'll move things around. I'll then finish off the conversion. Who knows maybe I won't like some of the new ones and keep some Shimanos ??

Speaking of line...up....You use sunline if I recall correctly? How you like it? I was swayed by the tt review to give armilo a try.

Will be in the same boat here. In a few days and a trip from Japan ill have a few four more shimanos here = 5 all brand new. Been saving up for months for one big shibang. Staying at 5 for now but will probly head back up to 6 or 7 eventually but its time to move funds against rods. Atleast they are cheaper than reels generally. I think that atleast innitially anyways, im gonna pair rod/reel combos based more on the techniques i enjoy the most rather than being capable of throwing everything possible like usual. I think that leads to bad combo decisions based on "what ifs" rather than optimal for what you "will" end up throwing most of the time.

Love it! And their customer support is second to none! Had a bad spool of 8lb Assassin I called to tell them and possibly give them info to narrow down the batch they begged me to send it in so I did and they next day aired 2 spools 1 replacement and 1 to cover me shipping the other spool back. Like literally Called Monday Shipped line Tuesday morning got home from work and package was on steps.

Armilo is what I use for Spin/buzz/chatter baits.
Sniper: jigs, t Rigs, worms, cranks
Shooter: paddle tails, c rig
Super natural: top water and squarebills
Flippin FC: Flippin
Sx1: Finesse
FX2: A Rig, frogs, swimbaits

Quadruplets!!!! Oh so pretty....all those new reels....so pretty lol
nice congrats on the new additions.

Yeah I pretty much had the same idea as you with the armilo plus I'm gonna Texas rig with it too for now, I still want to try senshi for that though. (Unless this stuff is sooo good) Then a spool of the super natural was what I was thinking for my topwater/jerkbaits. Awesome to hear their service is excellent.

Jerkbaits without a doubt go Sniper! I use 10lb for jerkbaits. Stuff is great!
Top Water they have Defier Armilo its like $40?for 75 yards? Or something crazy lol lol
In a perfect world I'd have a Rod dedicated for Ricos in that case 10# super natural
But it's not a perfect world so my Rod also throws Ima Skimmers and 115 Sammys. 14lb Super Natural has been good to me!

one technique Armilo is a match made in heaven is weightless Flukes. If you want to keep them high in water column over suspending weeds you get the benefits of mono but then there's no stretch so you can really lay into a hookset and keep the sucker from turning its head and shooting back down into the weeds he came from.

Btw Armilo is designed for some knot that you have 3 tag ins. It's impossible to tie with 17lb. It really acts like fluoro and cuts into itself. So be careful with Palomar. I use San Diego Jam.

honestly dude I'm very disappointed with the IS. Thing msrp is like $800 Megabass is smoking crack! If you brought me to a store and this had no label and no price tag I would thing it's a budget $39.99 store brand reel that Daiwa made for them. I actually spent quite some time investigating it afraid I bought a bootleg reel. Haven't even fished it yet and wore the paint down to the almond color plastic in 2 spots.  >:(

The zillion SV tho. OMG this is where it's at!

Thanks for the kind words bro!

Thanks I'll keep sniper in mind. I been using stren magnathin or pline c21. You think the sniper being clear will make a diff? I'm sure the amount I need to work the bait will change since its stiffer?

Yeah I seen it, it's 40 bucks lol this 17 was almost double what I spend on mono. Lol

I figure this armilo would be a little different. I read it casts nicer than fluro not too much fluffing.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated

honestly dude I'm very disappointed with the IS.

Dude, this is why I sold my Steez SV. Just didnt feel it was any better than say my Curado 50E. Made good use of the money and profit I made selling it though.  lo

Dont know why megabass loves the matte black paint so much. No durability or class. I once had a zonda 68. Components were very nice, paint job sucked. I put alot of thought in paint durability when buying reels. Salwater fine reels seem to do better aswell

Good news there are several reel painters out there. You can have a one of a kind reel or flip it to try to get some of your money back

FC sinks, keeps the nose down. And if water temp changes and your suspending JB starts floating just up to 12# test and viola. Back to suspending with the nose down. sniper rules for jerkbaits IMO. But I am also trying out this Assassin this year in 8# loving it so far. Bought it in 8 for leader material but it hates the knot I use for braid to FC. So said screw it put it on a Scorp and had nothing but a good experience. Other than the bad spool Sunline replaced as I stated.

The Armilo casts 3/8+ well I wouldn't go lower might get a little springing action going on with 1/4oz. I'm using it to cast 1/2oz+ stuff with zero issue!

Edit* Defier  is $34.99 for 85 yards on Sunlines site

I gotta fish it. I need 1 reel without T wing for flipping and hopefully this is it. Super light too which is good, days I'm flipping that's the only Rod in my hand the entire day.

This other guy from mass. Big Fish Sports eBay store has good deals on Seaguar I used to use him. Been buying from Legacys eBay since I switched to Sunline. They're very sporadic with eBay inventory. I think what's not selling good on their site they throw on eBay? Good guys to deal with either way. $80 for 660 yards of Shooter is rare on holiday sales Nevermind regular day. Lol

Soooo What do you really gain spending the extra cash to get the zillion for the cranking? How often to do you crank compare to other techniques?....That is what I would ask and see if the zillions made sense.

From Feb till April that's all I throw then again Oct-Nov. cranking reels get abused more than any other reel because there's always a constant pressure so I've always thought buy the better reels.

Here's the list don't mind the line, I keep track of the put on dates.

LINE
ROD & REEL ARSENAL

Casting:

DX HP 795Flip - Flipping - Megabass IS71 Hyper Lariat

- 16# SX1 - 10# Sniper
Custom 2 - Drop Shot - Ballistic 2000ex
- 12# SX1 - 7# Sniper

Another thing I'm thinking about is doing either Alphas or regular Tat CTs for the Jerkbait and Topwater rods. As I was using the Scorpions, smaller reels better on the wrists. Or actually maybe the IS71 on jerkbaits and if I can find another one for the Topwater Rod. Idk decisions decisions lmao

Guys!!!! Do yourself a favor and buy the Zillion SV at least one of them! This thing blows the Met out the water it's not even a fair fight.

I have to go all Zillion having used this one today. Sweet Baby Jesus!!! (Ricky Bobby voice)

Hahaha I hear they are good but there's a guy on blade forum who has the new zillion on a perfect pitch and the met mgl on a jackal poison adrena and he says the mgl seems to just rocket the bait, feel better casting/quality eventhough distance goes to zillion....personally not using them I have to give looks to the mgl, it's a purdy reel.

I don't need a reel like either tho so I leave the testing up to you ;)
Title: Re: Zillion help!
Post by: Dam0007 on June 06, 2016, 10:08:23 PM
This one is on my jig Rod. I'll prob never cast it. I pitch, the whole pendulum thing. I can put a jig in a coffee cup 35 yards out repeatedly with this thing. The Met I'm accurate up to maybe 15 yards anything after that you need to really flick your wrist and raise your elbow. Even with no brakes and the tension knob barely holding the spool. This zillion I can cast straight to the ground and not get a back lash. If I did that with a Met I'm respooling lol

Edit this is my whole thing why I wanted to switch. I throw primarily light stuff 3/16-3/8 is like my sweet spot. 1/2oz and heavier is mainly in tidal water minus Flippin 1oz + Brush hogs, beavers etc.

I always ran into issues with light stuff with Shimano the Scorps being that rare exception but even with them I may get a loop or 2 no matter how well I thumb the spool. I saw a video of this Japanese guy demoing the Zillion SV and he was lob pitching a 4" cross tail shad on a mosquito hook 10-15yards and casting it 30yards easily. That was it I threw my hands up and said F this S#!t sign me up!

Depending on what you are using the reel for, spending the extra money for the SV may not be necessary. For instance, if you plan on using the reel for lighter baits and such, the SV spool would be an advantage. Take this into consideration, Im buying the regular Tatula CT, and gonna add a few things that should pass the specs of the Type R minus the spool weight. Im using for frogging which the spool wont be a difference maker for that application. Adding bearings to the knobs and hopefully 2 to the worm drive will make the reel silky smooth. Im going by having the previous version Tatula Type R and doing these mods, it made that reel just as smooth as my modded TD Zillions. The Type R drag star is Daiwas Zion one, and is only a $16 add on.

That is exactly my thoughts with the Casitas....I had bearings and a handle and it will be better than the Curado I and 70 almost or better than a CH c4i lo.....But yeah I agree you can tweak a reel in the 150 range to be as good as some of them more expensive reels, that is why I can't bring myself to buy one.

Little different scenario with that reel as it doesnt have an aluminum frame, but rather a graphite one. In my case, the Tatula is just about the same design as the Zillion minus the spool and a few bearings.

meh the frame don't matter in my case, main principle is just being smooth casting at the lure weight I want....My point was that yes I see the advantage in a lower cost reel being tuned or tweaked and coaxed into a better performing reel. Besides who are you kidding, the tat might as well be graphite since you cannot keep non 50e or bantam reel longer than a month or two. throw longevity out the door.  ~roflmao

So aren't the USDM reels more expensive than the JDM? I see JDM for 269 and the USDM 299.....Man you must got bottomless pockets and a really understanding wife  lo CONGRATS ON THE SWEET GEAR THO  ~beer~ ~beer~ ~beer~

Lmao the USDM versions I scored for $245 each free shipping some eBay store had $260 or best offer so I put $220 each they counter offered $245 I said screw it and bought them. Lmao the JDM 9.1:1 was like $270 with shipping. Already posted the Type Rs for sale on BBC they haven't even been delivered yet lmao

What I could do now is go back to 6.3:1 for squarebill and just get 1 more cranking reel and I'm done or sell my regular OG tats and buy the 2 zillions 5.5:1. There's deals out there, just gotta be patient what is it going on 2 months now doing this conversion.

It doesn't Palm well, it's tall from thumb bar to line guide. Length?? So my small index finger barely wraps the top of reel. Idk it's not a $300 reel. Would be great at the $179.99 price point when the Curado I came out it was $129.99 then they jacked up the price when the Citica came out.... Another beef of mine with Shimano. If I were to keep it it would go on the Flipping stick where I'm pulling line with free hand and dropping in pockets with trolling motor on 80. Otherwise it's as useless as breasts on a nun. Just want all the Shimanos gone to recoup some coin I dropped.

Got the armilo 13 pound spooled on the scorp. It's nice smooth line, little bit of stiffness. I liken it to 16 pound magnathin, but silkier. I tried the Morizo knot. Couple casts in the dark, nice normal mono type casts. Definitely feel more weeds as I swam the worm back and thinner than the pline 12 pound I was using. Full test in am liking it so far.

yeah it's stiff but definitely quality and abrasion resistant. All of Sunlines stuff is good

What are your guys thought on handle length???

This Tat 5.5:1 has a 80mm handle, which I would think I'd reel faster than a longer one. I was burning squarebills way too fast with the 6.3:1 (used to use the Chronarch 5:1 but can't cast KVD 1.0s  lo) so I bought this thinking it would be a slower retrieve while I'm reeling fast... Umm compared to the 6 that is. Lol is the short handle defeating the purpose???

Fished with it this morning, it is great line....So far living up to my expcetations....Casts great and very senistive......I wouldn't say it is any stiffer than magnathin but less stretch....I would hate to use 17 or 20 pound though.

I keep the stock shorty on the stock and a 102 on the abu....IMO its all relative cuz your going in a circle. where the longer shine is leverage as you crank, when you get to the top and crank down a longer is better......I count when i reel, like 2 seconds to make it around once, or 5 seconds etc. to keep me slow.

agree 90 is good. I dunno why they put these tiny handles on, like 80 mm is small.

The only way I'm getting that Zillion HLC is if I sell the Metanium, spent my HLC money on the 2 zillion 5.5:1s. Lol and at that point I'll need to buy another DX 744 or 704 for the slightly heavier T Rigs. I may actually grab a Fury 734 for spin buzz chat. And promote the 734 Champ to T rig duty. Would be cheaper lol

Edit* pray I win this tourney Sunday! I need to recoup some cash! Lol

I hated my champ 734 for t-rigs....that's where my dislike for dobyns was born lol (great spinnerbait/chatterbait/buzzbait stick though) I was told the DX are waaay better, but I wasn't gonna plunk that kinda cash down. Unlike you I am a baller on a budget lo lo ;)

Only thing I'm really wondering about is the Is71 on the flipping stick. Would probably like something with a longer handle for leverage and more heavy duty lol idk

IS is not a flipping reel. You need a Tat or Zillion. IS is good for lighter baits and line.

Can't flip with the T wing  ~xyz

Looks like that Met will come in handy  lo

Soooo what's Daiwa's flippin reel? Only the Alphas SV and SS SV have standard line guides now right?

Well I thought the Steez, Alphas is definitely Finesse and the SsSv seems like a Steez Jr. They do however have the Zillion 103 which is the old school body oval line guide with a SV spool??? That might be a option. FML don't want to buy any more reels the IS71 is t exactly a piece I can unload quickly.

Why?

Cause when you pull the line with you're free hand it jumps up and over the wing and if you go to set the hook you'll break it. Been there done that not worth the hassle.

Why would you pull line line? You mean if you get a backlash?

No my concept of flipping is holding Rod in one hand and pulling line inbetween reel and first guide with free hand raising and dropping bait into pockets. Trolling motor going fast covering water quick as possible.

Edit* I wanted the lightest reel I could possibly get for this task.

Was thinking the IS drag is kinda week. You flip and set the hook on a 30lb pike thinking its a 3-5lb largemouth your gonna have issues. Lol

What about the Fuegos? Anyone any experience with the new ones?

You could probably punch with a zebco33 (wear a glove so you can pull the line lol) if you really wanted to. Its your choice really I just think another reel would be better suited especially since you have a technique specific set up. Like lmg said tat, zillion,sv103, or even better a nice shimano. They say the 70xg is a superb pitching/flipping/frogging reel

Yeah, I almost pulled that trigger. But the issue for me with the TDZ is lack of gear ratio.

So my 6:1 and 7:1 USDM models came in. There's zero difference with the JDM ones other than the higher and lower gear ratios are color coded different and not available in US. Also appearantly the SVs don't have Magsealed bearings.

SS705. Keeping it, got a Tatula CT that's gonna make a new home on it for frogging. It was my OG frog rod, and does a good job of it, so I decided to put it back to it.

So debated on telling you guys an upsetting story to avoid the I told you so's and the Shimano rules. But screw it lmfao

So pitching a jig in the morning yesterday brakes set to 2 barely any cast control. No prob at all pitching and skipping like a DREAMMMMM!

Tie on a chatter bait make a bomb cast and boom massive backlash dam near  exploded. Idiot me forgot to adjust the brakes. Lost 1/2 a spool of Assassin. So get that all squared away and now I have a knocking as I turn the handle. I'm like  ~rant because it's the JDM purchased one. Continued to fish the 7.3:1 USDM model, no problems at all.

Fast forward to when I get home. Call my reel tech and go through a bunch of stuff.

Check the flat head screw looking piece on back of pawl from the level wind.

Ok it's like halfway off.

Tightened it.

All set :)

Moral of story, make sure everything's tight on JDM models before hitting the water. Lmaoooo
