Post by: Donald Garner on October 01, 2017, 07:49:17 AM
Good morning to everyone 8)

Here we are Oct already ~c~   Wow time is flying by.   We're starting the day off with clear skies and 61 dgrs  ~sun ;)  Fall like temperatures are slowly coming into our area here in Central Texas  ~shade  There is nothing special planned for today we're off to church here in a little while.  I guess we're going out to eat afterwards as the wife hasn't informed me yet  :-\

To everyone I hope Oct brings in good health you and your families.  If you're out and about on the water may that new Personal Best be on the end of your line.

Tight lines

Good morning Don! Good morning UB family!

We've been having 60 degree nights here as well and it's great having the windows open at night. Sure hope things slow down some, I'm not looking forward to the cold months.

Cleaning rods and reels and starting to prep for Big G. Hoping I'll get everything done in time.

Tks for switching out our thread.  I hope you guys heading to Big G have some decent weather.  A trip there is on my Bucket List one of these days.  I always enjoyed reading the postings and watching the video from the trip.

Finally October is here.  Been looking forward to my October trips looking for some big girls.  Heading to Santee Oct 10-13 and then on to Guntersville October 25-29.  I have been prepping for these trips for a long time and now we finally get to do it.  Heading to the storage lot today to pick up the boat and bring her home to get all charged and loaded for the two outings this week on the river.  Gonna get take some time to grease the trailer hubs for next week.  Temps here today in the mid 70s so it is a good day to do some of these fun chores.

We have a guide trip with Inky Davis (Santee Bass) on the 12th and that is always a special trip with Inky.  I know he will put us on some bass.  Hopefully we will have some pictures to share when we return.

Afternoon everybody!!! high 40s when I got up, we went to Mass, came home and had b'fast then I prepped some chicken leg quarters for the smoker. I used a commercial seasoning on them, one I used to use when doing them for dinner during the week. They're done and cooling and waiting for my wife to make what she's making then we'll eat.
Donald, hope you and Mrs. Donald enjoy brunch and have a good day!
Lip, I'll trade you some chicken for some brats!!! Yours sounds good, haven't done brats yet this year.
Jim, I hope you get all your prep done for Guntersville! Fall can hang around for awhile, a long while!!
Bud, enjoy the river and Santee, I know you look forward to Santee and big girls!!!

UPDATE!! UPDATE!! Another source says the temp is 40 headed to 70 sunny all day, we'll go with that!! Back to my son-in-law. he was admitted for observation, they think appendicitis or colitis, asking for some prayers please.
Lip, that sounds like a very tasty meal right there, our chicken was great!! If nothing else we can eat well!! ;D
At the moment I'm listening to reports of a mass shooting in Las Vegas, 20+ dead, 100+ wounded/injured at a harvest celebration, not good they need our prayers!!

Just found this one, made one last post in September's thread.
Heart hurts for those affected in Vegas. Bout sick and tired of this kind of crap. Beside the heartbreak for those in the middle of it, it furthers more divide. It's already turned political, and that pisses me off more.

I wish there were a good solution to the problem.

I spent all day saturday working on the tahoe, and then building shelves in my work shed.

Fished a little yesterday afternoon after church at a place I'd never been before. I posted about that in the Alabama fishing reports section..

Good evening to everyone,

Beautiful day here in Central Texas.  Bright sunny skies the temps were in the mid 80's for most of the day  ~sun  Just enough work to keep me a little busy today at school.  I took the time to watch some training videos on "woops"ual Harassment in the work place.  Next week I'll have my team watch it in Spanish  ~shade  Got home and dug up a rose bush that had died.  It only took me a couple minutes to dig it up.

There was another plant in the front yard that was 5 yrs old and hadn't really grown all that much.   It was about 4ft tall.  The neighbors have one just like it that's 8ft tall and 10ft in diameter  The wife had me pull that up also.  I tied a rope around it and up it came with the help of the GMC Sierra pickup truck.  I didn't see any need in exerting any more energy than I had too  ;)

Lip; Tks for the OJ, I had a glass prior to heading out the door this morning.

WRT;  Tks for sharing the video with us.  That was interesting.

SHC; I hear brother.  Lot of pain going on and not a real clear solution to the problem.

Rodney; Sorry to hear about the SIL.  We'll add him and rest of the family to our daily prayer list.

To everyone have a very relaxing evening and a better day tomorrow.

Tomorrow I will be going back to get a CT Scan and that will be the last time I have to go to the Doctors for about a month.  ~sweat It's 71* overcast with passing  ~rain from time to time and going to reach 82* today. Donald glad you had enough work to keep you a little busy that makes the day go by faster. Sounds like you had more work waiting for you at home  ~sweat Rodney how you doing today and how's your shoulder doing? Hope everyone has a great day and be safe out there.

Afternoon all!! Went fishing in the wind, got blown all over, tucked in behind an island, took about an hour but I figured something out, deadsticking a worm, the water temp dropped 12-13 degrees since last Wednesday, the other boats that came and went did so empty handed, I squeaked out 6 all legal. ~bb ~bb
SHC, I feel the same and the stupid politicians have to open their yaps, they're partially responsible.
Bud, good you achieved your goal, I hate to do only part of my goals! ~roflmao ~roflmao Santee is coming, it'll get better!!
So Donald, do you and the crew know how to "woops"ually harass folks now, hate to have you doing it when you don't know how!! ~roflmao ~roflmao
Lip, I aint complaining about the fishing but I DON"T like wind, KVD can have all mine!!! lo

Good evening guys,

It was cloudy all day with the temp in the mid 70's.  Just as I was getting off work the sky let loose.  It was lighting and thundering and raining sideways up until about 6pm here.  Its still raining but not like it was when I got home.

Rodney; Glad you had the opportunity to get out and wet the line.  Congrats on the catching also.  Yep I hate doing anything half azz'd.  I'm educated now on how to "woops"ually harass folks now and do it the right way  ~shade

Lip; Tks for the update buddy.  We still got ya in our daily prayers.  Hope the trip tomorrow comes back in a positive way for ya in that everything is clear and you're good to go.

Bud;

Took the day off to take the youngest to the doctor. Last round of vaccines. I just took the whole day because of the distances involved between my office, his school, and his doctor's office.

I have a confession. I didn't go fishing, yes I lied :( :'( I'm sorry!!! I walked outside and started to uncover the boat when I looked up at the trees, they were quite active. I pulled out my phone and checked accuweather, 7 mph gust to 14, they lied, the trees told 14 gusting to near 20. After yesterday no way was I going to battle that so I ran errands. Boat control in my boat starts getting real iffy in the wind and I don't like fighting it several days in a row.
Donald, that rain says it's time to take it easy, after all, you had a busy day at work cleaning up after the little darlings!!
Shoulder is doing quite well Lip, the therapy is working which is good, doing the exercises makes it sore but less and less. The arthritis is still there though and I feel fronts.

Afternoon everyone and I got a call from the Radiation department this morning and they got the letter from the insurance company saying it was ok to do all the test so I spent the afternoon getting my CT Scans. Now just have to wait for the results. I'm sure after the Dr's look at it if something don't look right they will let me know before my scheduled appointment time. Rodney sorry you couldn't get out and go fishing this morning but I know what you mean about fighting that wind in your boat.  ~sweat Glad your shoulder is doing fine. SHC you get all them shots taken care of? Donald you dry out down there yet? Hope everyone has a nice day and be safe out there.

Good evening to all,

Bright sunny skies and 90dgrs for the most part here in Central Texas  ~sun  Another day at school I spent the morning redoing all the assigned areas of responsibilities.  My newest team member showed up yesterday afternoon.  She was a transfer from one of our other schools here in the district.  I don't have to spent that much time with her conducting training etc.  We're back up to strength now so my overtime is going to be limited for the most part.  Break my heart.......NOT  ~shade

Rodney; Hope the shoulder gets to feeling better as well as the arthritis.  I'm not a windy fisherman either howling wind I'm just like you.  Leave the cover on and head back inside.  You'll get'm tomorrow.

SHC; Hope all the running around and dr's visits went well for ya.

Lip;  Sure hope all the test come back negative for ya.  We got you in our daily prayers brother.  Yep we're starting to dry out after yesterday.  According to my rain gauge in the yard we got 3" inches here.

To everyone have a safe and pleasant day tomorrow.

Went out to my regular fishing hole. Parked by the boat ramp, walked down a little trail and started fishing the bank, working my way back towards the boat ramp. The Shimano performing flawlessly as I expected it to after playing around with it in the back yard.

Deer tracks everywhere! Too bad it's off limits for hunting.
I'm steadily working my way towards the ramp, almost there, a couple hundred yards or so from where I started. Then I stumbled over something.
I looked down and thought to myself, what the hell is all this? The sand's all tore up. Someone done beached their boat a little hard and had to struggle to push it off again. It's exactly where I'd seen folks beach before, only about 10 yards from the ramp.
I turned towards the ramp, and there's a friggin dead deer just a few feet into the water right off the boat ramp.
I looked back down at the sand around my feet. There's tracks, IN the upturned sand, and not just deer tracks either.

It dawned on me, I'm standing directly on the spot where a gator had done come out the water, grabbed a damn DEER, dragged it in, killed it, and it's now deposited just a few feet away for seasoning. And I wasn't seeing any gators.

This is the same boat ramp where me and the fam had a gator slip up right on the other side of our bobbers while we were night fishing.

So now I start looking around. Every bush, every log, every little swirl in the water is scaring the hell out of me. Every hair on the back of my neck is standing on end, I'm bout as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
I done took off from the house so excited to try out this new reel, I left my phone, smokes, and gun at home.
I went ahead and walked past the deer. It's head and neck are mauled beyond recognition. I slowly turn to walk up the ramp towards my car, still taking in the scene and watching for gators, and then it happened....

A fish jumped near the bank and I bout crapped my pants.
I'ma lose a freaking leg out here one of these days, and count myself lucky if that's all I lose.

Good morning UB nation!! Heavy downpour about 7:30 made the shower we had at 3 look like a light dew, it came hard. 56 headed to 72 sunny and I'm going shopping. ~rant Therapy this afternoon, tomorrow hopefully the boat will get wet.
Donald, maybe you can wet a line on the way home from work, at least you'll get caught up on your rest, hopefully you won't have to be shorthanded for a long time!!
SHC, you have to be careful down there, your wildlife can be aggressive, we only have muggers here to worry about. lo lo
Lip, how are you doing buddy? Planning another crappie fishing trip? I think it's going to be ribs this weekend, I like me some ribs!!!
Have a great day, be safe!!

Afternoon everyone and Donald sorry you have to go shopping instead of going fishing. We had a little  ~rain but not much. There's a few clouds in the ski but not many and it's only going to get to 74* today and calling for some  ~rain tomorrow but we will see.  Them ribs sound good (http://imageshack.com/a/img923/4313/dplfzR.gif) (https://imageshack.com/i/pndplfzRg) I might have to thaw out some steaks and let them marinate over night then throw them on the grill with some cut up potatoes and green peppers and onions covered with olive oil wrapped in foil.  SHC I for sure would keep my eyes open around that place.   ~sweat Hope everyone has a nice day and be safe out there.

Greetings to all,

Mostly clear skies with the temps in the mid 80's here in Central Texas today  ~sun  Going to be off line here for the next 3 days.  Got a long day tomorrow we have to work the High School Football Game tomorrow night.  Saturday we're driving up to Sherman, Texas for a Memorial Service.  An army buddy who I served with back in the 80's at Ft. Knox and Ft. Polk passed away.  We're going to spend the night up there so Sunday I'll be spending the day driving back down to Belton.  I'll holler sometime Monday.

Lip; Yep 3" inches of rain is a lot.  It didn't rain all that long either it was a heavy down pour for almost a good hour or so.  We're all dried out now  ~shade

SHC; You'd better be watching where you step there buddy  ;)

Rodney; I'm thinking the same thing maybe a quick run to the lake for a couple three hours or so.  It's not getting dark till around 7:30ish.  Hope you had a good time shopping.

Guys you all have a safe and relaxing weekend I'll holler Monday after work.

Now I'm curious as to just how busy a 3 peckered toad gets! Lol!
Rodney, I normally carry my 44 around the water. It don't get much more cannon than that!

Yes, TGIF! I kid you not, I rolled over at 0500 this morning and said "I don't wanna go to school..."
Ugh! I just keep reminding myself, I like the job, just hate the folks I work for, and at least I don't have to deal with them all the time!

Here's a coyote my mom anchored with her 44 a couple years ago, a lever action rifle. She heard a ruckus in the pasture, looked out the kitchen window, and saw this big boy running the horses. Grabbed her rifle from where it was leaned next to the door, and rolled his azz with a single shot from the back porch, about 100 yards. That's the entry wound. It went in his right shoulder and came out right in front of his left hip. He hit the ground and didn't even twitch.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171006/c118c10a55c3cef52fcc2282b1618676.jpg)

Been a busy day.  She who shall be obeyed has been gone all day helping another person trim shrubs.  I was able to Power Wash half of the house, Grease the hubs on the boat trailer, Started putting together a box for Santee and I also mowed and trimmed the lawn.  Mail has been stopped for next week and boarding arrangements for the cat have been established and confirmed our hotel reservations for next week at Santee.  Had to pick up the wife's prescriptions before the trip.  Time now for a shower and shave before I hit the sack tonight.  Right now the boat is on the charger topping off the trolling motor batteries.  I guess we are on schedule so far.  It has been a good weather day here at the beach, temps in the mid 80s and humidity about 75% and a little breeze.  Weather guessers are calling for a few shower over the next few days and I hope it comes true.  Things are pretty dry around here.   Just checked the water level at Santee and I see it is down about 2ft. from full pool. That is a fair amount for a lake where 8ft of water is considered deep.  Maybe the rain this weekend will bring it up a bit.

Bud, have a great trip to Santee, leave a few fish for others!! lo ;)
SHC, those cartoons are funny, I like the one with the racoon, we have a ton of them here, in the city they live in the sewer, folks would be surprised at the wildlife that has adapted to the cities.
Lip, what are you up to, it's quiet here, my wife is working so i'm on my own, I'll get several hours in then maybe a nap. lo ;) ::)
Have a great day!!! Stay safe!!!

That is a strange looking fish . I guess it got to big for someones aquarium so they put it in the water.  ~xyz ~xyz As far as how they taste this is what I could fine on that.
Edibility
Bony, but commercially important in native range; flesh minced, made into balls, and cooked with curry.
Don't sound like something I would eat.  lo lo

My Cuban Army brother cooks the snakeheads I shoot with my bow. I have to say, it's not bad tasting for a "trash fish". He cuts a slit all the way around the body, behind the gills, guts it, then slits it all the way down the back. He throws it on the grill with lemon, garlic and butter. The skin then just crisps off the meat as it cooks.

These sound like gar recipes.
Oh, speaking of...
Since it's hard as hell for a teenager to find a paying job, my daughter's going to volunteer at the bait shop about a quarter mile from the house. She spoke to the owners, who said they really do need the help, but declined to hire her because they just really can't at the moment. Brand new business on a tight budget. After spending a few more weeks looking for an after school job, she went back in and offered. Figured at least some work experience to put on an application may help her find a paying job later. They gladly accepted, told her she'll at least get snacks and drinks, and a few odds and ends for me!

Anyway, what made me think of that is, the husband of the ownership team was telling me how he prepares gar. Circles 'em behind the gills, then cuts down the back and each side... with a skilsaw. Then he peels off the strips between the sides and spine, slices the meat off the skin, and then slices these strips of meat into little steaks.  He doesn't season or batter them at all, just tosses them in hot grease, then a little salt and pepper, whatever condiment seems tasty at the moment. Kinda like chicken nuggets.

Shaping up to be a quiet day around here.  Temps currently sitting at 90 with some showers expected from time to time.  Decided to re spool a couple of reels for Santee and make the rod selection for the trip.  As usual I am taking three rods for the trip.  Been through all of the plano boxes and selected some baits that will go in the day box for the guide trip on Thursday.  We will start some packing today and then load up most of it on Monday.

Afternoon all!! 71, cloudy, high winds and rain early this am! We went to Mass, stayed for coffee hour, don't drink it myself, don't care for the flavor, spent some time chatting then came home. I prepped some ribs for the smoker, they're resting now and look good, my wife pickup some corn, going to be a good meal!!
Lip, how'd those steaks turn out, I've got some in the freezer I got on sale, I've been told we're having them soon. lo
SHC, we've had bear sightings in the suburbs, too many bear, not enough hunters, same with deer.
Top, that is one gorgeous knife fish, definitely show quality, I'm amazed at what folks have put in your waters and swamps, it's mind boggling!!! :shocking: :o
I got out yesterday, about 9:30, tough day but I put 6 in the boat, 3 legal.

I didn't get around to cooking them steaks cause I just didn't have the energy this weekend maybe during the week I will feel better. Glad you got out fishing for a little while and caught a few fish to keep the skunk out of the boat.  ~sweat The ink on my printing press is starting to dry out.  lo lo Let me know how them ribs come out.

Howdy!
Rodney, here's a new one, don't know if I mentioned it before; was coming home from some errands a couple days ago, seent a roadkilt cougar in the middle of the road. The youngest was with me, I slowed down, we both stared at it, then he says, "uh... hmm... didn't think we had those round here..."

I find the concept of not liking coffee mind boggling. Yeah, I know some folks don't like it, there's plenty of things I don't like that other folks love. How bout shrimp? Even before I developed an intolerance to seafood, I hated shrimp. I'm the only one I know who hates shrimp! But coffee? Man, skeeters bite me then fly around like crackheads cause of how much coffee I drink. Had one bite me on the hand and when I shook it off she just picked up the dog and tried to carry him off. Chinese take out, a bit undercooked. True story. Hehehehe...

Went out and tried to fish this morning. That was a bust. Lost a bunch of line on my little spinning reel to a few wind knots, too much to keep fishing with it. Thankfully, it was some of that $3 Daiwa 8# J-braid. That's the first time that's happened in a while, since I got used to using it. I reckon my line got twisted.

So then I broke out my latest pawn shop find, that Shimano. Man I'm loving this reel! All was going well, except the fact I only got one bite and I missed it. A little while later as I made another cast, whole rig slipped out of my hand and I basically ended up just throwing it down in the sand. When I walked over and bent down to pick it up, I ended up kicking more sand over it.
Well, crap. That's the end of that. I just shook off the loose stuff and put it back in the car.

I decided to use this as an excuse to go ahead and paint it since I was going to have to tear it completely down again.
SAND. WAS. EVERYWHERE.
It's not the best paint job. Heck, it ain't even MY best paint job. I used some industrial matte black from work with primer mixed in. Yes my boss knows.
After cleaning out all the sand, I scrubbed the hell outta all the plastics with hot water and dawn dish soap. Smoothed up some of the rougher scuffs with 600 grit paper. Then packed modeling clay into all the areas I didn't want any overspray to get into, a little trick I learned from glass bedding rifle stocks.
I let the paint dry then cleaned out the clay with a pick and makeup brush, and there ya have it! Wish I'd let all the pieces sit overnight to cure, but I'm impatient.
Must be all the coffee.

Bah! Lousy signal, can't get the pics to upload. I'll post them in the morning from the office.

HAPPY HAPPY MONDAY!!! Time to march to work whistling and singing "Hi ho hi ho, it's off to work I go"! lo lo ::) I remember those days, miss a few folks I worked with and a few of my customers but not the work, it's what ruined my body. I have an ear infection now but it too shall pass after I call the Doc. 63, Nate is paying a visit, a shadow of his former self, windy, rainy, heavy at times, good day to stay home! :( :( ~rant ~xyz
Lip, my wife made fried green tomatoes for our meal yesterday also, I love fried green tomatoes, we have a bbq, we have a bbq joint here that makes them as a side in season, he makes them with cornmeal and his secret blend of spices, I can make a meal of just those!!! ;D ;D ;D My Mom made them when I was growing up, good stuff there!!! ;D ;D
SHC, we keep hearing of cougar sightings in the ADK, the DEC says no but some folks say they can show the pad prints, the DEC also says no wolves but I'm wondering. I swore I saw a wolf crossing the road in front of us near Saranac Lake but it was so quick I'm not sure, the DEC says folks are seeing coyotes, could be, the native eastern coyote is gone, replaced by the larger western coyote, they are all over the state but tend to be shy, good thing.
Bud, I hope the weather cools off a bit for you. I can picture you sitting in your boat re rigging some rods and checking out some baits, I did that yesterday. You've said in the past that doing that is very enjoyable and I agree wholeheartedly!!! ;D ;D
Donald should be back later today, hope he had a good trip!!!
Hey Top, how you be buddy?? Good I hope!!!
Have a great day, be safe!!!

Rodney, red wolves are coming back in Mississippi, and they have cougars too. Same thing, MDWF says "nope".  Trail cams, eye witnesses, tracks, and security cameras around the coal mine where my mom works all say MDWF don't know what the hell they talking about. They've instituted a buddy system, if you're out away from the main buildings, you don't get out of your truck unless there's someone there to watch your back. They haven't had any incidents, but the wolves and cougars will come right up near the big dump trucks and watch everything that's going on.

Here's pics from my paint job yesterday. I like how it turned out. I didn't paint the handle or spool tension knob because I like the contrast, didn't paint the thumb bar because I just had this little feeling that I shouldn't. Of course I also left the levelwind and spool alone.

It does look a little bit better now with it curing. It's a thick coating paint, kind of somewhere between truck bed liner and rubbery tractor paint, but goes on much thinner than either. So a few of the blemishes have self leveled a bit since last night. Some of the wet looking spots are due to some oils on my hands during reassembly.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171009/2eee1bd35502c9e6a25e8dd2ff83a8ec.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171009/e5fe059f337284a3b350fcb4a3ab29f4.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171009/283b661abf93aa3380f0f7167126f4e2.jpg)

Pack up day.  Weather guessers making it a bit difficult so far.  Been raining off and on this morning and will probably be that way most of the day.  We will mostly get things organized and ready to put in the truck with the final loading tomorrow morning.  Gotta take the cat to the boarding kennel in the morning and then hook up the boat and head down the road.  Expect to leave here tomorrow about noon.  Santee weather this week also showing showers each day so we got out the rain gear for the trip.  Love fishing is the rain as long as there is nothing electrical in the air.  Temps will be very warm for this time of the year.  We were hoping for a cool down but that is not going to happen.  We thought about delaying our trip until next week but it then starts to conflict with the get ready for Guntersville schedule.

Good evening to everyone,

Clear Skies and 92dgrs here in Central Texas presently  ~sun  We got a cold front coming through later on tonight.  Its suppose to be 52dgrs in the morning  ~shade  I might have to dig out a hoodie and wear it to work in the morning  :-\

Made the trip up to Sherman, TX to attend the memorial service for a friend I served with at Ft. Knox, KY and Ft. Polk, LA back in the 80's.  Wow watching the video was something else it brought back a lot of memories.   We got home Sunday afternoon and attended a memorial service for one of our friends at church.  She passed away while having knee replacement surgery this past week.  She had a reaction to some of the med's and went into a coma there in the hospital.

We had great weather for traveling and for once the people seem to be paying attention while driving.  I'm glad to be back home.  Today at work was laid back.  There weren't any kids just teachers and parents conferences going on.

Well tomorrow my implant adventure finally comes to an end.  I started this Implant process on the 26th of Dec 16.  My appointment is scheduled for 3pm and I'll be one happy camper by 4pm  ~c~ ~shade

WRT; Tks for sharing the video with us that was pretty cool.

Top; Tks for the cartoon to start the morning off with.

Rodney; Sorry about the ear infection.  Its always something isn't it buddy.

Bud; Have fun while at Santee.  One of these day I'd sure like to wet a line down there.  Read lots of fish stories back in the day from the ole magazines Sports a Field, Field and Stream and Southern Outdoors about the fishing there.

SHC; That's a great job on the reel there.

Lip; Brother sure hope you're getting to feeling better.  You got a another trip planned before Winter sets in?

To everyone have a very relaxing evening and great day tomorrow.

Evening Donald and glad you had a safe trip there and back and sorry for the loss of your fellow service member and also for the loss of your friend from church. It's scary to see how fast things can go bad. We just never know how long we will be here. I know you will be glad that the implant stuff will be over and even if it's just something simple I will say a prayer for you. Nope I don't have anymore fishing trips on the schedule till next spring. When you going again?

Lip, tks brother for the prayer.  I was hoping you'd get a quick trip in before Winter sets in up your way.

My next trip will be this coming Saturday.  We have the Central Texas Fishing for Freedom event banquet this Friday night.  The tournament will be Saturday morning over on Belton Lake.  My partner will be over Thursday night after work to get the Stratos all loaded up with our gear.

According to the weather experts we're in for some really decent weather for a change.  I sure hope so the past few events have had high winds, thunder and lighting and a little on the chilly side.

Last year's event wasn't too bad over all.  All of our fish were too short to weigh in.  Hopefully this year we'll get to weigh some fish.

Good morning!! The ear infection has settled in now, it freaking hurts!! ~xyz ~rant ^-^ I wanted to go fishing this am, not happening! ~rant ~xyz ~rant ^-^ I saw the Doc yesterday, I'm on Z-Pac, hopefully this will do the trick, if not it's off to the specialist. I grew up with ear infections, I would miss 1/4 of the school year and half of summer vacation. When I was a senior in High School, the middle ear in my left ear was removed, it ended the infections until a couple of years ago, if they went away forever I'd not miss them.
Donald, sorry about your friend from Church, glad you made it home safe though.
Lip, the good thing about this infection, I can't hear a thing, it makes it real easy to ignore the politicians! We have local elections coming, guess what's on tv. ~rant ~xyz ~xyz ^-^ ~xyz ~xyz ~rant
SHC, nice paint job! It's interesting when the wildlife starts making a comeback, if the cougar is returning the crying and whining for protection will build, dumb folks scream to save them then scream to be saved from them. Dingbats!
Top, cute cartoon, gave me a chuckle, thanks!! lo :)
WRT, blowing up your cell phones with a 45? There are times I'd like to do that to my tablet. lo lo
Have a great day, stay safe!!

Greetings to everyone,

We had clear skies with the temps in the low 70's most of the day here in Central Texas.  It was a little chilly on the way to work this morning 53 dgrs to start the morning off.  Busy day at school today it always is after a football game.  Got my implant completed this afternoon after paying my share of the cost  :surrender:  I can complaint I chewed Levi Garrett, Beechnut, and Redman for 27yrs. and the teeth are making me pay now oh well  :'(

Bud; Glad you made it to Santee safely.  You and the wife enjoy the time there.

Lip; Tks for the juice brother.  I had to head to the store to restock while getting a prescription refilled.

Rodney; Hope the ear infection gets better soon.  I know you guys living up in the NE are running out of good weather here soon.

To everyone have a great day tomorrow.

We started the day at 60, headed to 58, 52 by dinner, cloudy rain, possibly heavy at times, high winds, flood warnings along the lakeshore, been flooded or threatened flooding since March. No fishing today or tomorrow. :( :( The ear seems to be getting better, the fluid is clearing and most of the pain is gone and I was able to pop it enough to hear the radio. :)
Lip, how are you doing? The ear getting better? That med sounds like cipro, there aren't any meds that are inexpensive, a lot of it's the people trying to get rich by suing. ~xyz ~rant Hope you're getting well, prayers my friend!!!

Mornin everyone! Wishing I had the temps y'all are getting. Google says we are but it sure didn't feel like 56 when I left the house at 0500 this morning.
Sorry to hear about y'all's ear infections, I just went through that myself with both ears. First or second one I've had since I was a baby, doc said it was caused by a severe sinus infection and prescribed me cipro to clear it all up. My insurance has pretty good prescription coverage, cost me a whopping $12.
Donald, my condolences on the dental work. Everyone hates going to the dentist. I think some of it has to do with their nitpicking. "You need to floss more! You're not brushing along your gumline!" Just like regular doctors, you could go in for an infected ingrown toenail, and they will make darn sure to tell you to lose some weight, get some exercise, and eat healthier. Like a Navy Corpsman, "Take Motrin, drink water, change your socks."
You could be bleeding from a gaping head wound and missing appendages.
"Take Motrin, drink water, change your socks."
Daughter just had some dental work done, some fillings and a root canal. They drugged her up like a lab rat, it was absolutely hilarious! Until it wore off and her mouth started hurting.

That sinus infection I had was from allergies. Never had allergy problems until I was around 24-25. My eyes started getting a bit itchy when mowing the grass, then quit as soon as I took a shower. It's steadily gotten worse every year since then, and one of my duties at work is keeping up our properties, which means mowing. This was the first time that allergies went far enough to escalate into an infection, but this was due to insane amounts of dust. I haven't been able to even stand the SMELL of cut grass in about two years, one of the things I always loved as a kid.

I see every year as a blessing, every birthday since 2005 is a bittersweet gift from an old friend, so I live it to the fullest that I can. But it sucks getting older, and some of y'all would consider me still a kid at 33. I'm hoping for many more years, looking forward to it, and dreading it at the same time. Like every time you get behind the wheel of a high mileage car, "I wonder what's gonna break next?"

Greetings guys,

Blue Bird Skies with the temps in the mid 70's for most of the day  ~sun  Not much happening here just working and getting thing ready for this weekend.  Fishing For Freedom Banquet is Friday night Randy Howell former Bassmasters Classic Champion is our Guest Speaker.  There will some Triton Pro Staff Members there also.  Gary Klein has made an appearance and fished this event every year since it started.  He has won the event prior and as always finished in the Top 10.

My partner is coming over tomorrow night to get the Stratos uploaded.  Saturday morning isn't the time to be getting things loaded.  There's 232 Teams signed up for this event so far.  Launch time is 5am with the first flight taking off at safe light 7:15am.  I'm in the 2nd flight boat # 32.  The weather forecast for Saturday is calling for Clear Skies 68 / 92 with a South wind.  I'm really looking forward to this year.  This will be the best weather we've had in 5 yrs.  If the fish play right its going to take at least 20lbs to take 1st Place.  I can't wait  ~shade

Lip & Top; Guys my side was hurting from reading those cartoons.  I've seen some of those before a LONG TIME ago.  Tks for sharing them.

Rodney; Hope you get this ear infection over with soon.  You got some fishing to get done before Ole Man Winter kicks in.

SHC; Hope you and the daughter get to feeling better also.

To everyone have a great day tomorrow.  Hope everyone gets to feeling better also.

Lip, I may wind up on Cipro pills before this is over, I'm still draining and it's still brown, ugh! :(
SHC, I grew into my allergies, get a shot in each arm every 2 weeks, they do a pretty good job, the ear infections maybe a product of cool wet weather though.

Good evening to everyone,

Clear skies with the temps in the low 80's for most of the day here in Central Texas  ~sun  Busy day at school the little knot heads have begun tearing stuff up.  I had to replace (2) paper towel dispensers this afternoon.  They pulled them open somehow and dismantled the guts inside.  Some of the parts were in the floor others in the trash cans.  They then took slime and smeared it all over the mirrors and threw some up on the ceiling which dripped all over the floor.  They completely emptied the paper towel dispenser and had the paper thrown all over the rest room floor.  I would really like to catch these boys doing this.

Got the Stratos and pickup gassed up and ready for Saturday.  Tomorrow before heading off to work I'll get the battery charger fired up.  The batteries ought to be fully charged by the time I get home from the banquet tomorrow night.  I got (19) rods rigged up covering everything from top to bottom.

If the wind isn't too bad I'm going to just drop the trolling motor and wear that North Bluff bank out.  There's (2 miles) of gravel, boulders, laydowns, standing timber, submerged timber bank and numerous cuts and small coves to fish there  ~shade   If the wind is ugly I'm heading up into Cowhouse Creek and break out my LSCR's and spend the day flipping and pitching Soft Plastics ;)

Lip, Rodney hope you guys are feeling better.  SHC; The 'Howdee Doodee Show' was the hit back in the day.  Top; Tks for sharing the McDonald's video with us.  That was pretty cool.

You all take care and have a pleasant day tomorrow.  I'm going to be off line till late Saturday or early Sunday.  I'm going to take some of pictures of the banquet and the tournament.  Hopefully my partner and I will have our pictures in there with a good limit  ~shade

Afternoon guys. Was out fishing Tradewinds Park earlier when a guy came up to fish by me. We both caught a few but then he asked the weirdest question "Where's your measuring stick at?! How do you know how big he is if you don't measure him?" "Well to be honest, I really don't care how big he is or what he weighs. I just enjoy catching them and throwing them back." "So how do you k ow if it's legal to keep or not?" "Easy, I don't keep any, I just throw them back."

Is catch n release really that hard of a concept to grasp for people? You mean I've been doing it wrong by just enjoying the outdoors and my sport? Lol.

Besides, that 1-2lb guy you just threw back, can grow up to be a little kids first big bass they catch tomorrow, that ignites their love of it.

Afternoon all! 70 at the moment, cloudy, rain and high winds on the way, very high winds, flood warnings for the south shore of Ontario again. Got out yesterday for a bit before the wind sent me home. Picked 3, lost 3, didn't get to fish any more. I didn't go out today, would have been a great day but my sinuses were stuffed up big time, happens every year when the weather is like it is now, spring and fall. I did take my snowblower in for a going over before we get hit, figured it would 3 or 4 weeks possibly more, I should have it back in 2 weeks. lo I think it may need a drive belt and disc and frankly I didn't feel like going through that and then leaving it apart while I waited for parts, I'll let the service shop do that, the old body aint what it used to be, it's old. lo
Hope everybody is having a good weekend, just be safe!!

I just got a call from John and he was wanting me to come back down to do some more fishing in a couple of weeks. He said to keep an eye on the weather and jump on the train when the fish start putting on the winter feed and he would bring me back when we were done. I said I would think about it but I couldn't take the cold anymore since my Cancer treatment. We will just have to wait and see.

Didn't get to go fishing today. Showed up to work early to borrow the work truck since I'd be going off road, and my coworker was "OH MY GAWD I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE!"
He'd gotten hold of something that done messed his stomach up and he was pretty much done.
Oh well. I just went ahead and clocked in so he could head home and suffer in comfort.

Went to Fred's yesterday and got me a cheapo $25 grill. My last one gave it up earlier this summer after 3 years of pretty regular use. Bout to throw some burgers on it.
I would so love to have a nice grill. The one I've got picked out I think is about $250 or so. But the money... $25 every few years?

Good morning to everyone,

Cloudy skies with light rain and 72 dgrs for the start of the morning here in Central Texas  ~rain  Fishing for Freedom event is completed for another year.  My partner and I caught fish but was only able to weigh in (1) keeper.  The weather was great couldn't have asked for better.  I'm going to put together another thread later on after they post the final standings.  It took over 20lbs to win the event.  The guys that won also had Big Bass.  There were 228 teams that fished the event.

Lip; Sounds like youns got some nasty weather up your way.  Hope everyone made it through the night and no damage done to your property.

Rodney; I don't miss plowing snow.  When we moved to Ft. Richardson, Alaska the first new item I bought was a snow blower.  I actually enjoyed getting out clearing drive ways and the side walk down to the community mail box.  After (3) yrs the fun wore off.  Congrats on catching some fish yesterday.

SHC; Enjoy the grilling this weekend.

To everyone have a very pleasant day.

We are back from Santee and everything is unloaded and almost put away.  The boat has been cleaned and taken back to the storage lot.  Just now starting to gather things together for the Guntersville rally.  With the reports from Lee my tackle choices require a bit more thought and planning.  Just finished buying my Alabama fishing license so that little task is done.  I am planning on ordering another Daiwa TWSV103XS sometime today or tomorrow and hope to have it by rally time.

We are expecting some rain in here tomorrow so she who shall be obeyed wants the lawn mowed before the rain.  Being a good soldier I certainly will do that.  While I am in Guntersville she wants to power wash the driveway and sidewalks and patios.  I guess she is planning on being very busy during my absence.  Somehow I expect it will be waiting for me to finish up when I return home.

Cooler weather is heading in with some temps dropping into the upper 40s overnight this coming week.  It will be a welcome change from all the heat that summer brought.  Maybe the AC will finally stop running.

We finished our 50th Anniversary celebration with a nice dinner with friends last evening at a local restaurant.  No matter how long one lives it is those special moments with friends that always makes for great memories.

Howdy y'all. Not much going on round here. Temps are nice though. I'm out at the lake, just packed it in to leave as there's a mild storm trying to blow in. Got tired of fighting the wind, although that Shimano doesn't make it much of a fight :)
Didn't catch any fish, but I did have a bit of luck.
Didn't realize how crappy that pic was. Little red and shiny thing is one of my homemade spinners. Big white thing is a whopper plopper!
Ain't tried it out, has some gunk in the tail. Gonna get it home and clean it up, may try it out the next time I wet a line.
Be prepared to hear about me cutting my line though. I've seen videos of these in use, and it looks like better gator bait than fish bait to me. This is one great thing about fishing from the bank when the water's low, never know whatcha might find. Thought I found a good hook too, turned out to be rusty with the tip broke off.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171015/f5ac58402635cd995fadc5a59eaca46b.jpg)

Morning everyone!
Another wonderful predawn morning at work. *sarcasm* there's a chill in the air this morning, a nice break from the usual. I'm very much hoping for a brutal winter this year, we desperately need something to put the pests in check. Chiggers, fleas, spiders, water bugs, ants, mosquitos... they're running out of control. I've taken to spraying the door and window frames with Off. Have other bug spray that works great for crawling critters, but nothing for the flyers.
I HATE the smell of citronella, but I'm really considering planting a moat of the stuff around the house next spring. Can't even go outside once the sun starts going down without getting swarmed.

That whopper plopper turned out to be in pretty nice condition once I got it cleaned up. I just used hot water and Dawn along with an old toothbrush. One of the treble hooks had a couple points somewhat blunted (still pretty sharp) and one hook was slightly bent. I suspect the previous owner did that while trying to snatch it free. I just bent the one hook back in shape and plan to check it out the next chance I get.

I hear you on them bug and sounds like you could use a nice killing frost to get rid of some of them pest. Rodney sounds like y'all got a taste of that storm. Hope your basement didn't get too wet this time. We got down to 45* last night but no frost yet. The  ~sun is out and most of that 5 & 1/2" of  ~rain has soaked into the ground. Well I found out the I'm going to have to pay to get the roof fixed it's not covered by insurance and the labor is only covered for one year but the material is covered for 25 but not the labor.  :'( So now I have to get busy and find someone to check it out and try to find what is causing the leak before we get more  ~rain on Sunday.
Donald hope them little (http://imageshack.com/a/img924/5574/VouLLB.gif) (https://imageshack.com/i/poVouLLBg) are being good today. Hope everyone had a nice weekend and be safe out there. Don't forget to say a prayer for Mike and Laurie and the kids and their daughter today.

Howdy Folks... some of you know I was in a wreck last night and my Phone burned up in the truck, so if you call or text I'm not getting it.  Going to try to get a new one today. When I do I will let you know, so you can text me your numbers.

I am fine other than some bumps and bruises and picking glass out of my hands.

DAMN I need to go fishing.. :surrender:

Fall is in the air.  Front moved through about 1PM today and the temps have dropped about 20 degrees.  A bit windy right now with lows tonight nearing the upper 40s.  It has been a long time since we have seen these kind of temps.

It's done got downright chilly! Problem is, not chilly enough for any of my jackets, and I don't have a hoodie here at home! It's alright though, it's at the office, and I ain't planning on going anywhere or doing anything until tomorrow morning when I head to work.

I took off early today to handle some stuff for the kids. Found myself with some spare time so I stopped by a water hole and tried out that plopper I found. Sho 'nuff, about the 5th cast, I heard what sounded like something quite large slip into the water a little ways away, so I dragged it in real quick and packed it away.

After a bit, I saw that Godzilla wannabe cruising off in the distance, so I decided to break out a frog. Cause why not? I was fishing everything else I had that goes under, and they weren't having any of it. Got a hit and my Lunker Hunter lost a leg.
Later on this evening after I got home, I spent a few minutes scratching my chin and got an idea.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171017/0ad378474b83cc717f1b9a774a7bfdcc.jpg)

Now that I've picked my phone up off the ground, I'd kinda like to go bathe in gasoline and set myself on fire. Kinda lost my mind for a few minutes. Sitting on the front porch in the twilight, my beard feeling a bit tickly, and when I reached up to scratch it something fell out into my hand. A spider. A rather large one. Big enough to go "THOOK!" when I squealed like a little girl and slung it at the car.

Good evening to everyone,

It was a little chilly here this morning in Central Texas.  We started the day off at 47dgrs and clear skies.  It warmed up to the mid 70's by mid afternoon.  Nothing but work going on here some knot head destroyed one of the new paper towel dispensers I install late last week ~rant  I ordered another one this afternoon prior to clocking out.  I don't understand why the kids have to tear up something that's there for them :-\  Anyway nuff ranting over that crap.

Shawn; Sorry to hear about your accident.  Glad to hear that you're alright except for what you mentioned.

Lip; Man that sux about the warranty on your roof.  Hope things get better for ya before the next round of storms move through.

Rodney; Sorry to hear about your basement getting soaked again.

SHC; Nice looking frog there.  You need to watch where you put your hands.  I hate spiders more than any other insect.

Bud; You're getting some of this cooler weather we got here in Central Texas.

John; You guys are fixing to start having that White Stuff falling here shortly aren't youns?

Guys hope everyone has a better day tomorrow than today.

Back said "eff you" and went out again.. that means I didn't get to fish on my last weekend of leave. Ugh..

Plus side, getting a large jet ski trailer for my Gamefisher. It had a 12' 3 man ski on it so, think it will work great for my little boat.

Good morning UB nation!! 35 here, a bit of frost happened on the cars and a handful roofs here over the night. John, would you please keep your cold air to yourself, there is no need to share. ~roflmao We made it all the way to 50 yesterday, it's supposed to get all the way to 61 today with sunshine most of the day., near 70 tomorrow. I saw the Doctor yesterday, I'm on Oxy-Clav for my ear, 10 days, 2 a day, take with food because it upsets the stomach, as long as it works I'll be a happy camper.
Shawn, sorry about the accident, good news that you're fine, the phone and truck can be replaced, you can't!! Maybe you better go fishing, it'll clear your mind!!
Lip, I understand all about those warranties that won't pay labor, it sucks but you're stuck between leaking and fixing the leaking.
John, you ready for G'ville, have all your liquor stowed?
SHC, I don't think you should sit outside at night, you may wake up wrapped in a web! lo Watch them gators too, they need to eat just don't want it to be you!
Bud, there are things I don't like about this time of year, mostly the end of summer! lo ;)
Donald, time to setup deer cams to catch the little misunderstood little darlings so the parents can be billed for the vandalization of school property!!!
Top, take care of the back, it goes you'll be stuck in a chair in front of the boob tube watching what you'd rather do!!
Have a great day, be well!!

Got the video equipment already to go to Guntersville.  Plan is to record a video of the proposed reel seminar that LMG will be conducting.  I am hoping we can catch some stuff that the rest of the site can use for servicing their own reels.  Not sure how this will go but at least we have to give it a try.

Still have to get the reels loaded with new power pro for the frog mats next week and also select a few baits to take along to complement my frog collection.  The new reel will be here on Friday and that should be the last part of the puzzle for the rally.  Alabama license has been purchased, the Expedition has been serviced so aside from the re spooling all I got to do yet is visit the boat and pick up my pfd and then get the clothes ready to pack up.  This is always an exciting time.

Greetings to everyone,

Clear skies with the temps in the low 70's for most of the day here in Central Texas  ~sun  It was 45dgrs on the drive in to work this morning.  It didn't take long for me to warm up after cleaning the stadium and concession bldg.  ~sweat  Another interesting day at school another paper towel dispenser was destroyed this morning  ~shade  We're not allowed to have any video or recording devices in the restrooms.  We have cameras all up and down the hallways and in the cafeteria.  I don't know how we're going to fix this issue.  Oh well life continues.

John; You have a great trip to G-ville.  Can't wait to start reading those postings.

Lip; Tks for the juice brother.  I need to restock my supply as well.  I just finished the last of the jug moments ago.

SHC; As much as I love Summer I'm glad we're getting this cooler weather here in Texas.

Bud; We'll all be waiting for that video.  You do a great job of putting those together.  You have a safe trip to G-ville also.

Rodney; Sure hope these meds do the trick for ya.  Yep trail cams would be the ticket alright.  It wouldn't go over well with the parents or the school district though  :(

Guys you all have a great day tomorrow.  Hope this weather holds for you guys traveling to G-ville.

Alright Lip, I know I'm probably your most frequent customer, but you can cool the printing press! I finally managed to land a little half starved looking, scuffed up dink.

I'd been out fishing for a couple of hours without so much as a nibble. An old black man pulled up in an SUV right as I was getting ready to leave and asked if I'd had any luck. I hung my head and had to admit, "No sir, not a bit. Not a single bite the whole time I been here."
We chit chatted a minute about how that's pretty unusual for this particular hole, the fish we'd caught from it before, what's worked best for us in the past, etc. Then he wished me luck, drove on down the trail to park and get his own line wet.
I said to myself, well, one more cast...
I'll be dang, he must've dropped off some luck with me, because before he was even out of sight the fish started biting like crazy. I got this one right away, then within just a few minutes I missed a couple of hooksets and lost half my worm. I replaced the worm, then lost the new worm, plus hook and sinker. I figured that's good enough, I was running late getting back to the house so I packed it in and boogied.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171018/ee19492a5167264b7c4b229c4128642a.jpg)

She who shall be obeyed has me working.  Had to finish power washing the sidewalks and patios yesterday and today she had me cleaning the house and doing a bit of laundry.  Got to run out a bit later and buy some smokes for the trip next week.  Been tracking my inbound monkey bite prizes.  The Daiwa TAT will arrive tomorrow and the Pit Bull Cutters on Friday.  Still got to re spool the TATs with some heavy braid for Guntersville and I still have to go cash in my rally jar and get the money for the rally trip.

I don't know if there are any more jobs the Mrs wants me to do but I sure hope not.  She is on Church volunteer duty today and tomorrow so those days should be mostly to myself if all goes as planned.  But only she knows the rest of the story.

Hope everyone has a great day.  For you guys that will be following the goings on from the rally next week, get your snacks and drinks ready because we sure don't know what to expect.  Sure would like to find a way that you guys could attend a rally with us and join in the fun. I am beginning to think as Lee would put it you are to skeered to attend.  Especially you yankees.  Come on down and hit the lake with the rest of the gang, you won't be sorry.....Well you might be but at least you won't ever forget the rally.

Greetings to everyone,

Beautiful day here in Central Texas we had clear skies with the temps in the low 80's.  It was another fun filled day at school today.  I was using our Man Lift today and while raising it the power cable came apart and shut down.  The machine locked up in the raised position about 20ft in the air.  I had to climb down the back side of it.  Made for an interesting afternoon for a bit.  Really weird how the power cable just came apart.  Anyway the machine is not going anywhere till the tech comes out in the morning and checks it out more.  They got it to lower down but it won't move forwards or backwards.

Lip; Hope you had a good day today.  See youns had some sunshine also.

Rodney; Congrats on the catching buddy.

Steve; How's the vacation going buddy?

Bud; All that resting up you got while at Santee sure didn't last long after you got home.  Bud its almost impossible for me to attend the G-Ville rally during the time youns have it.  Our vacation days are always during the Summer.  I have sick / personal days to use when ever but they get used a day here and one there.  I can't wait to see the vid and track all the postings.  You guys have a great time and be safe in the traveling.

SHC; Congrats on the catching and tks for sharing the picture with us.

John; You all packed up and ready for the trip?  What is the flight and travel time from your place to G-Ville?  You fly into Atlanta?

To everyone have a very pleasant evening and a great day tomorrow.

Well, I threw that newest reel out in the lake. Went to cast, and woops, there it went. Of course with the rod it was attached to. Connie said she saw it go flying end over end with the line coming unspooled, then I just looked down at my feet and started shaking my head and she couldn't help but laugh.
Ugh.
I wasn't about to go in with my boots on, so I drove back to the house for my old sneakers, swimmin trunks and goggles. Took me a bit to find it. Would have been nice if I could feel around with my toes, but with all the turtles and lost hooks and lures I know are in that spot, it weren't happenin. Had to wade out about chin deep and swim around underwater until I spotted it.
I just packed it up once I got it out, that fine silt got into everything.

She said she kinda expected me to just leave it since the reel was so cheap and I'm already planning to get something nicer. But I really like this reel. And besides, the rod cost a lot more.

Does that really even count as getting skunked? I didn't technically do any fishing, it was the first cast.

Lol Rodney, I'd have to take some sun to look Muslim. I'm more on the alabaster side. I'm no where near getting ready to prep for Gville. I have a day off tomorrow and I'm gonna get to setting some posts for a fence I'm putting in. It looks like shorts and t shirt weather for the rally so it will be like packing for a run up to the north country in summer.
Donald, I'm flying into Memphis this time around where I will meet up with Rockchalk. I will drive some of the 12 hours or so he has to travel. Memphis is about four hours and some from scottsboro so I plan on helpin out until it gets dark. We won't pull in there until 2100 or so.

Good morning UB nation!! 55, clear going to be sunny, near or at 70, a bit of breezyness. Lip, there are times I wonder why I have a 'puter and smart phone, not to mention the tablet that drives me nuts, I use the tablet to watch Bassmaster videos while I'm on the elliptical and stairmaster, helps the time go by. I use their Wi-Fi.
Donald, you sure one of the little sweet darlings didn't sabotage the lift? Sounds like one of them might have been messing with it. This year seems to be starting on a juvenile delinquent way of doing things!!
Bud, I thought SWMBO was going to do those chores while you were away? Hope your packing is quiet and peaceful!!
SHC, aren't you taking a chance of becoming a snack going in the water like that?
John, careful with the driving, we have speed limits down here. Of course you could say you're a friend of Trump! lo lo ::)
Shawn, I know how you feel, when I lost my phone I cried, the only good thing was I had it backed up to the cloud but the crap we had to get me another was no fun!!! :( :( :'(
Have a great day!! Stay safe and dry!!

The Mrs. only assigned one job for me this morning to water her flowers in the back yard.  I guess she must have something else planned for this afternoon.  Decided to spend some time this morning re spooling my reels for Guntersville.  Got two done now waiting for USPS to deliver the new reel then I will be done with that little fun task.  Terry G and I have arranged all of our meet up schedule for next Wednesday morning now all I gotta do is go to the bank, pack the luggage and load up and hit the road.  As much as I miss not having my boat on these kind of trips it is still nice not to have to mess with it.  I really enjoy being the co angler and just taking life easy.  I am fishing with Princeton Man and I know he will be a great boater to be paired with.  Really looking forward to seeing his Garmin system.  I hear it is very nice.

Rick must have told you how I jump waks and about how I can steer with my feet while sitting on the back of my seat while shooting video!  ;D You might enjoy playing with the Garmin. Unless I'm mistaken, Big G is a MaxDef so you can use all of the bells and whistles like seeing the fish's view and satellite. But ya gotta catch fish too.  ~roflmao

Lip, she did have a trick up her sleeve.  I just had to wash and vacuum my truck and clean up all the glass.  While I acknowledge it needed done, my plans were to have it done by others but I guess she now saved me some money.  I guess she does not want me or the truck to look like a pig at the Rally.  Thats right, she made me get a haircut as well..(I hate haircuts).

Lip, I know all too well how smart phones are limited by the user!
I have an Android, a Nexus 6P. Top of the line when it first came out, but Samsung seems to usually be right on Google's heels with something a little better. I waited until the prices dropped in anticipation for the next batch of flagship phones a year after it came out, then got mine cheaper.

I can do all sorts of stuff with it. I started experimenting with custom Android systems and customizing my own when I ended up with a spare beater to play around with. Someone else's old phone that they'd thought was "bricked".
Even with all the things I can do with a smart phone, I'm still only barely tapping into it's capabilities.

If you'd like some help in connecting to UB with your phone, shoot me a PM and I'll walk you through it. It's really quite simple, download Tapatalk app, search for Ultimate Bass, sign in.

WOOOO!
Looks like this evening's first cast was just making up for yesterday evening's first cast!
One good yank and he woulda been gone, the hook was just through the skin in the roof of his mouth. Cranberry Yum Dinger.
Kinda caught another one a little while later. One of those little 7-8" bass snapped the tail of the dinger and I yanked it out. No pics of that one, got a hell of a cramp in my right side where I smashed my ribs a few years ago. Put me on my knees, and I just scoop tossed him back to the water.
Oh, and here's a sunset for your viewing pleasure.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171020/74c9444a107e20dc1986392b984a57dc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171020/8890d57294915509b3e86400833264b9.jpg)

At least you are catchin' them! I still can't get my boat out the back gate so tomorrow I will buy a new chain for the chain saw and start on that tree again- a little something Hurricane Irma left in my way... and it just had to be bigger than any of my chainsaws too.  ~xyz

And I still can not get out on the St. Johns river right now. Water is still way up, ramps are closed, entire river in my area is no wake zone everywhere on the river. Lakes are overflowing. We have water everywhere right now. Inland from the river is still flooded and under a foot or more of water miles away from the river in this area.

I drove over the bridge over Lake Jesup and there are houses along the banks still under water right now.

Glad someone is catchin' them- even if they are dinks! Better than nothin'!

TGIF!!! THIF!!! Ya'll have 2 days for fun and frivolity, use it wisely, you never know when some politician will try to take it away from you!!! Supposed to go fishing, probably in an hour or so, can't go anywhere but the home waters for 2-3 hours, I have a dentist appointment to fix a tooth. With my titanium hip the Doctor wants me to take an antibiotic incase I get an infection while I'm being worked on, if an infection gets into the hip they have to take the new joint out until the infection is cured then they can put the joint back in and I can spend 6 months in a cast, it'll make the stairmaster hard to do so the meds happen. lo lo
PM, hope you can find the hair that needs trimming, we wouldn't want you to unkempt while you're at G'Ville! lo
SHC, cut your hair and now have to clean your car, hhmmm.......
Bud, the truck will so pretty as you drive down there. ;) Hope you don't mind the way Jim drives, it's what happens when the wild hair gets in his eye. ~roflmao ~roflmao
FFF, lots of firewood right there!!
Lip, you're not the only one who doesn't use the phone for the internet, fat fingers mean I get websites I really don't want. lo I still need to figure out how to post pics, I have a few I'd like to. ~rant ~xyz
Donald, any more damage from the little tykes? Get a bit of fishing in, you'll feel better!!
All of you heading to the year long hangover, have a great trip, be well and safe!!
Have a great weekend, wet a line!!

Well it's not like I cut my hair in the car!

Speaking of, my first really close call on the road involved a haircut. I was 18, in the Marines, had bought a new car and every now and then got to make the long trip home to visit friends and family. It was a Chevy Cavalier. Fine little car, especially for road tripping on a budget. I had a truck in high school, but it was an old beater incapable of making the trip.
Anyway...
I was on my way from Hernando MS and heading back to Camp Lejeune NC. Hadn't been on the road long and was on the I-240 loop going around Memphis.
Seemingly for no reason at all, this little red car comes screaming across three lanes and fishtails right in front of me, barely avoiding hitting the wall. I had to slam on my brakes and I swerved to get away from them. I waited just a moment until I was sure they were in control of their vehicle, then sped up to go around. When I did, I looked over...
It was a dude giving himself a haircut, with scissors, using the rearview mirror, and attempting to catch the clippings with a newspaper. While driving the 240 loop around Memphis. Blew my mind.

Oh, here's some random trivia.
The word "Fard" is defined as "the act of painting ones face with cosmetics"
So next time your lady starts putting on makeup in the car, you can tell her to stop farding in the car. Fun stuff!

Happy Friday y'all!

Don't cut the Wild Hare. They're what makes things interesting!

Not sure if I ever shared the reason I now have a mohawk. Kind of a messed up story.
Was having some trouble with higher ups at work. On the professional level, not personal or connected to conduct and performance. Basically, they're always wanting to blow tons of money on half baked schemes to "save" money, and they're freaking killing my ability to do my job effectively. Then want to bark at me when their schemes don't work. Well, they don't work because they're poorly thought out, even more poorly implemented, and they're not accepting feedback or recommendations from me, the guy responsible for attempting to make it work and polish their turds. These half baked money saving schemes also ALWAYS cost far more money in the long run.
Had a bit of a Brittney Spears moment. Said to myself, "Since these folks wanna act like d*** heads, I'll show 'em one."
So I carved my hair up to look like a giant phallus. Even used hair spray to get all the proper contours. And hung around their offices. Used every chance I could get to embarrass them in front of VIPs with my penile haircut. Of course they noticed, I told them my opinion of their behavior before I'd left work the day I did it, and they shared the same opinion of my own behavior.
Every time they said something stupid, I just pointed at my new and fashionable haircut and asked when they were gonna let me cut their hair too, usually also hinting that they really needed it to match their personality. "Man, a cut like this would suit you perfectly!". They caught on to what I was saying.
After about a week, I got my way. The half baked scheme in the works at the moment got killed and I was practically begged to change my haircut. I decided since I had the opportunity, may as well try something different. Didn't think I'd like a mohawk and figured I'd just shave it eventually, but I found I do like it and most people I meet seem to think it's awesome.

My previous haircut was very similar to this one, except more detailed.
Self immolation in the form of semi public self humiliation.
Sounds so stupid, but it worked.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171020/61622b9aef071952473ec630d9d56470.jpg)

I would use a whole one and just put that little hook right through the head and put a real small split shot on it so I could cast it out away from shore a little. It works great that way. Good evening to all,
It's partly cloudy and 79dgrs here.  There's an 80% chance of thunderstorms later on tonight and 40% tomorrow.  With that forecast there be no fishing this weekend.  We're heading out to the local street fair in the morning anyway and then to our Div III Champions Crusader's Football Game afterwards.

The maintenance supervisor got the Man-Lift operational and moved it back to the maintenance yard.  They went to one of the local equipment rental companies and made a copy the wiring diagram.  They're going to re-lace the wire harness differently so it doesn't pull apart again.

Today one of the little knot heads stuck a cup of noodles in the microwave 'Without water' and turned it on and left.  Needless to say it made a lot of smoke and stunk the cafeteria up >:(  I got the door open and carried it outside.  Its been an interesting week to say the least.  I'm glad its finally over with  ~shade

Rodney; Glad you were able to get out on the water and catch a few.

Lip; I got fat fingers too and trying to type on the iPhone I got is an adventure.

FFF; Buddy that's a big tree you're fixing to tangle with.  You got any help coming over  to assist you n the cutting and trimming?

SHC; Congrats on the catch and tks for sharing the picture with us also.

Stratos Buddy; How often do you get a haircut?  I head to barber shop once a month now days.  While in the Army I use to get one every week.  I always keep my head shaved except for a small patch on top.  We had a Korean Barbershop just off base (10 female barbers) the place was always packed.  They used razors to shave our heads and once everything was finished they provide a massage of the shoulders and neck.  Man I felt like a million bucks after getting up from the chair.

Bud; You got everything packed up yet for the G-Ville trip?  Or has the wife kept you to busy to get that done.

Guys you all have a safe and pleasant weekend.  Tight lines if you're out on the water.

Caught my first topwater fish this evening on a bone zara puppy. Fun stuff.
Little while later I caught another one! I'd gotten a little wind knot in my line, so once I'd reeled in close enough for me to grab it, I got ahold of it and started working on the knot. The puppy was in about a foot of water, maybe two feet from the bank. I heard a gulp, felt a tug, and said "CRAP!".
Couldn't get a grip on the line to pull him in, while juggling the pole too, so I wrapped it around my hand and ran up the bank.
No pics of it. It was about 8 inches long, got covered in mud, and it took me a minute to get the hooks out. I felt like he'd been through enough hell, so I got him back to the water quick as I could.

Ran into a fella, seemed early twenties. He has a Lew's Mach II combo. He let me check it out and cast it a few times with his whopper plopper. I like it, but... I don't know. About fell in love with them while eyeballing them at Academy, but there's something about it while actually using it. Can't put my finger on it. I'd take one in a heartbeat, for sure. But I'm still planning to get a Curado next. I did love that Lew's rod.

Come to find out, the fella was in the market for a bigger whopper plopper. He said 130 specifically.
Oh? I happen to have one. Funny thing too, I'm kinda wanting a smaller one!
So we made a trade. He mentioned he hadn't had any luck with it, and was hoping a bigger one would work out better.
I tied my new one on and cast it out after he'd walked away, was tugging then letting it sit. First cast, got a nice strike. No bite though, just a slap.

Had no more luck the rest of the evening, but it sure was fun!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171021/6af017a99d966ba188d13ead89193178.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171021/e954a51e65328facf3f7e5314283331f.jpg)

I've been trying to get ready for G. So far, I have my rods and tackle loaded up, spare prop in the boat, vacuum packed the coffee. Still have a lot to do. Firing up the smoker this morning and getting the ribs started.  Haircut and a trip to Sam's this morning, grease job and check/top off the fluids while the ribs cook. I'm hoping to be able to mostly relax and spend some time with Linda Sunday and Monday. Hoping about all I'll have to do Monday night is ice down the coolers for the Tuesday morning drive.

Did you get your lure stuck on that log out there.
Title: Re: Oct Bassing and BS'n
Post by: SteelHorseCowboy on October 21, 2017, 01:59:58 PM
Sure did. I'd cast it about 4 feet left of the stump in the background and the wind blew my line over that knot in the log. I walked back and forth on the bank trying to flick my line off of it. No luck. All I could do was try to bounce my new lure over it. Bam. Stuck.
Tried to wade out after it, sunk to my hips in the mud. I'm going back with some heavy duty nylon twine and big treble, gonna haul the whole damn log out if I have to.

Fishing got cut short yesterday.. only one little (about 1lb) bass on the new rod.

In other news, just bought a bottle of 100 proof Knob Creek bourbon to celebrate my "Death Status" at the Army. They now have me classified as a deadman after the discs in my back fully blew out yesterday instead of their normal bulging/herniating. 9 spinal injections later, just to be able to walk around....

Woke up this morning to heavy thunder and lighting and rain  ~rain  It suppose to clear off this afternoon we'll wait and see.  Nothing planned for this afternoon except football  :foot  I got the yard mowed and trimmed yesterday after breakfast  ~sweat  We're off to church here in a few minutes then its back home for lunch.  The wife is fixing sausage and vegetables for lunch  :food ;PEP)

Top; Man that's tuff sorry to hear about the back.  We'll keep ya in our daily prayers.

Rodney; Least you got out on the water for a little bit.  1 bass is better than ZERO  ;)

Lip; The roofers come and fix your leak yesterday?  I hope they did nothing worst than a darn water leak.  Been there and done that once before.  We had a leak wound up redoing the living room ceiling and replacing the entire roof on the house.

SHC; Nice catch there tks for sharing the picture with us also  ~c~

Bud; Looks like the wife plans on keeping you busy right up till the time to pull out of the driveway.  Sure hope you get some rest before traveling to G-Ville.

Guys you all have a pleasant Sunday.  Tight lines if your heading out to the water.

Got to thinking, hell with the nylon twine and hook. I've probably roped a thousand steers and a pair of drunk and rowdy farm hands. So I grabbed some rope, 300 feet of it, and drove out to the lake. Was gonna rope that log, then tie the end to Connie's Traverse and just drag the whole thing out of the water.

Lo and behold. There was a fell scooting around the cove in a kayak. Same dude I traded whopper ploppers with. He was more than happy to snag my puppy and toss it up the bank for me. Wooo! Didn't have to get dirty!
Oh, here's the plopper I traded for.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171022/d41317540649b0f5e2bcbe2801d7d0cc.jpg)

Good afternoon everyone and dang top sorry to hear about your back and I know how bad that has to hurt hope you have some good pain meds. Donald glad you got your yard work done before the  ~rain moved in. All right some good sausage to eat while your watching the (http://imageshack.com/a/img923/3651/8uYvKN.gif) (https://imageshack.com/i/pn8uYvKNg) We are suppose to be getting some  ~rain in the next few hours and I had a guy look at the roof and he thinks he found the problem and got it stopped we will know after it starts raining. ;D Hope everyone has a nice day. I'm going to make a trip to Home Depot with the Mrs either this afternoon or in the morning. We need to get a new kitchen faucet to replace the one that has been leaking for a long time and keeps getting the cabinet under the sink wet so after a few months I figured we better change it out. Diana thinks she can do it. I would but my body can't take laying on my back and twisting in all different directions to disconnect and reconnect everything. We also are going to look at some new Ceiling fans that have been making a noise when you use them and driving her crazy  lo lo Since I can't stand on a ladder anymore I can't change them out either so will have to get some one to do that. I had not being able to do things I use to do  :'(

Dang Lip, wish I was nearby I'd help ya out. Ceiling fans and sinks are something I have some recent experience at.
If by some chance you can shoot some expanding foam in around the ceiling fan box (above the ceiling), that can fix a wobble. If there's something else though, that could bear replacement.

Caught this little baby a little while ago. He hit that new bone puppy like a freight train, pulled my rod down and ripped off about two or three feet of drag. Connie and I said "HOLY CRAP!" at the same time. But after his initial burst of energy I thought to myself, "you gotta be kidding me..."
The load had suddenly lightened and I realized he'd given me a false first impression.
We were both amazed. Another mighty minnow.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171022/ca404389b60ead495450a111d3a5f4a3.jpg)

Evening guys!!! Just finished dinner, smoked a roast yesterday, my wife made her super secret italian style bbq sauce her mom showed her how to make, it was fantastic!!! :) :) :toot: :toot:
Lip, sorry to hear you're not able to do your own fix its! I hope they got your roof fixed!
Donald, I'm grateful I got out and I got a fish, I was frustrated that my boat was being blown east while my baits were being blown up to 8 feet north then I was surrounded by perch jerkers plus my ear was acting up, it was just that kind of day and I expected a bit too much. How bout them Bills!!!
Top, very sorry to hear about your back, does this end your career?
SHC, you have to love an ambitious bass, they can be exciting even if they're little!!!

I sure did! I went out with some rope and plans to lasso that log and haul it out of the water with the SUV, but the man I met the day before happened to be out in his kayak maybe 20 yards away from it. Saved me some trouble and tossed it up on the bank for me! That's what I caught that little fish on.
And yeah, he fought hard for about 3 seconds.

HAPPY MONDAY ALL!!! Time to call the Doc again about this freaking ear, I'm going to ask for a referral.
Not much on the docket for today, might spend some time at the library. I need to get time in the mancave, it looks like a couple bombs went off. Should hear about the snowblower this week, can't wait to see the bill but it'll be worth it, I don't have anything in it, got for free, it's a 7 or 8 hundred dollar unit and does a nice job with little effort.
Have a great day and be safe!!

Yeah, get that ear taken care of Rodney! You may need that referral if those antibiotics haven't knocked it out by now. I believe you've been on the same stuff I was using, Cipro, right? Mine was knocked out in a week or so.

Forgot to show y'all my last catch of the weekend, sometime yesterday afternoon. Ain't it cute? Perfect size for a little home aquarium.

Anyone have any more advice for catching the big ones? I've tried a bit of everything I've read, just about everything that's not out of reach due to budget. My best ones seem to all top out at around 8-10", with the vast majority in the 5-8" range. Of all the fish I've caught over the summer, I could probably feed a family of four a semi hearty meal. If they don't mind fish nuggets.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171023/11ab2624cd1817e87e06b3a00883d674.jpg)

Good morning guys. FUN weekend. 9 spinal injections later, I'm somewhat functional but still managed to get to my Unit for duty all weekend. We celebrated my official "death" there last night. Lol

Now to wait and see if I will be forced into a full retirement for the 10yrs I have in already (I'm only 38..) or just collect disability.

We are falling apart guys. Thank God for duct tape n super glue. Lol

Got a large jetski trailer for my boat to redo seeing as speck season is coming up soon. I want my son to catch his first one this year.

Might sit my chair up at the pond behind my house and throw a few casts to kill some time and clear my head.

I actually do that a lot, just for that very reason. Haha, I actually catch the bigger ones on my UL! The fish I shared in post 164 was caught on my 5' Light spinning gear.
But I lost a lot of line over the weekend through simple bad luck and had to retire that one until I can get some more line this payday. So the last one I shared was caught on heavier tackle!

My biggest so far was around 2 pounds. On a crappie jig, using a 5'6" Lightning rod and Zebco micro 33.

It's just frustrating when I KNOW big ones are there. I can see them! But can't catch one. I've missed a few very nice ones that should have been a sure thing, just because I'm not very experienced. I think 3.

Every time I go out, I have my spinning rod on hand. As I told the guy I met over the weekend, I think I'd rather catch a thousand dinks rather than 100 trophies. But it sure would be nice to haul one in sometime.

You have a good evening Donald and see you tomorrow.

Good morning UB nation! I see the Doctor at 8:45, no PA, the Doctor. I haven't been given Cipro even though I suggested it, I'm going to see about a referral if possible.
Top, can't they fix you up so you could go back to work? There are vets with artificial limbs back in service!
SHC, the big girls should come back shallow when the water cools, they'll follow the baitfish. The other possibility is some kind of boat.
Donald, the little mobsters are going to behave? It would be a minor miracle but a very welcome one. Enjoy the good weather and get out fishing if you can. We have a front coming through, the water temps are headed down, only 60-62 when I was out Saturday, turnover isn't far off. Winter just around the corner here and they are saying it's going to be a hard one.
Lip, good deal on the roof, easy enough fix. Hope you and Diana got your shopping done. We had rain overnight but it's gone, cold front coming through.
Have a great day and be well!!

Good luck with your Dr appt.

As for me, this has been an ongoing problem for over two years. In short, was sent to Medic after an accident. "Medic" (I refuse to take medical advice from someone fresh outta high school) said "there's nothing wrong but pulled muscle. Take ibuprofen and water." Never sent me to the hospital on base. I could barely walk so went to my personal Dr who did an MRI and Xray, my discs were herniated. Brought all that paperwork/results back to my Unit to dispute. I was "wrong" for going against our "medics" advice and should have never seen my Dr. Thus the legal battle began.

Top, always fun with military medicine, ain't it?
This may be TMI, but in Iraq I went to sick call with a raging case of roids. Medical officer prescribed me NASAL SPRAY, just to prove a point to a colleague.
I will say, it worked. Pretty quickly too. Did nothing for the pain though.

Take motrin, drink water, change your socks.
Oh, and squirt some nasal spray on that.

Greetings to everyone,

Beautiful day here in Central Texas Clear Skies with the temps in the low 70's.  ~sun  We're forecasted for Clear Skies and mid temps for the rest of the week.  Another interesting day at work.  I just don't understand why these 6,7, and 8 grade kids do what they do.  I got a call today to come to the ISS > In School Suspension Classroom.  They have their own restroom in their classroom.  I get there and the paper towel dispenser is near emptied.  Lying all over the floor is torn up pieces of the paper towels.  They're all soak and wet from this kid pissing all over them.  He pissed in the trash can too  :-\  What makes a kid do that crap?  Anyway one of the assistant principals got him and carried him up stairs to his office.  I got the mess cleaned up and mopped the floor.  Other than this I had a pretty quiet day at work.

Lip; That's great news on the roof.

Rodney; Hope your Doctor's appointment went well for ya.

Top;  Hope the back is feeling somewhat better this morning.

SHC; Wow, some Roids treatment there.  I went on sick call once for roids.  Our medics sent me to see the Bde Surgeon.  He took a look and 30 minutes later he showed them to me on a 4x4 gauzed pad.  He gave me a 48hr profile no running, jumping etc.  He did the whole procedure right there in Bde Aid Station with (2) E4 Medics I put through Basic Training at Ft. Knox.  We all got a good laugh about that while he was cutting away the roids.

Guys you all have a very pleasant evening and a better day tomorrow.

Dang it Don!
I did have one removed quick and easy a couple of years ago. It wasn't bad, just didn't want to go away.
I didn't know the doc was going to remove it right then and there. Almost as soon as he got done, I said "dammit..."
Doc asked what's up.
"Dude, I rode my motorcycle."
He just laughed and said "Good luck!"
Turned out, riding the bike was actually far more comfortable for it than driving my car.

HAPPY HUG YOUR CAMEL DAY!!! Don't forget, your camel needs love too!! lo lo ::) I'm doing Lortisone drops for a fungal infection, Doctor says if this doesn't work you're going to a specialist! Works for me, there was no odor with this infection, that;s very very unusual for a bacterial infection. 48 headed to 51, cloudy when it's not sunny, possible showers but I doubt it, there are snowflakes(not today's college students) in the forecast for Sunday but with the temps supposed to be in the mid 40s I don't think so. lo
Sorry to hear about the roids running rampant through UB, hope they aren't contagious!!!  lo lo lo lo lo lo ~shade :shocking: :o
Lip, I don't blame you for not going back to the Depot, enjoy Wally World, congrats on the roof, wander through the fishing section, aint much but better than nothing!!
Donald, sounds like the poor misunderstood child should not have to come back to school, perhaps he could be sent to a juvenile camp surrounded by razor wire and eat delicious meals of baked beans and spam and enjoy the pleasure of digging ditches and sweeping roads and shoveling chicken poop!!!
Top, sorry but the story about the medic brought a chuckle, how stupid can one kid be?
SHC, what do you spray in your nose, Preparation H? As long as the nasal spray worked I guess. ???
John, let the headaches begin!!! Have a great time!!!
Have a great Hump Day!!!

Good evening to everyone,

Clear Skies temps in the mid 70's for Central Texas today  ~c~  We got forecasted Clear skies temps ranging from 38dgrs to 81dgrs this week  ~shade  Lay back day at school today after I got the football stadium and concession bldg. cleaned this morning.  The ISS > In School Suspension Teacher had her (11) knot heads out there picking up trash from around the stadium and football field this morning.  I cleaned the Concession Bldg restrooms and kitchen area while they picked up trash.

Rodney; We have a facility here in our school district that looks just like a mini prison.  It's got a high wired fence with Razor / barbwire all along the top.  The Hard Core Kids get placed in there.  We had a couple in there last year from our school.  Hope your ear infection gets better there buddy.

Lip; Tks for the OJ, sure hope your ear infection gets better also.

SHC; Sometime those quick fixes are the best type.

John; Buddy you have a great trip to G-Ville.  I'll be checking out the postings

To everyone have a very quiet and pleasant evening and a great day tomorrow.

Good morning!! 40 headed to 51, cloudy when it's not sunny or something like that, no rain til Saturday, maybe. I think the ear is starting to get better, I hope!! Went to Wally World to pick up some oil for the boat, bought 2 gallons of Pennzoil, just under 20$ ea. I'll pick up some more later so I'm stocked up for next year. Picked up a bulk spool of Trilene Big Game 10lb green mono and 2 small Bomber cranks, I may clean them out of them they only have 3 or 4 left. Got a call saying my snowblower is ready, 126$, less than what I thought, I'll pick it up today or tomorrow.
Lip, now that the snowblower is ready it won't snow for a while! :) ;D I'm curious to see what it needed.
Donald, good deal they teach the little darlings to clean up after themselves should invite the parents to help. You doing any fishing after work yet?
SHC, don't be shooting anybody, it just isn't worth it, they won't let you fish while you're in jail!!
Have a great day!!! Stay warm!!

Lol, I was talking about shooting the fish! They were everywhere, I could see them prowling just a few feet from the bank where the depth drops off to around 5 feet. Big 'uns, little 'uns, LMB, white bass, gar...
But that kinda violates my catch and release practice.
Could not get them to actually take anything. They tore up the dinger but didn't seem to actually gulp it. So I kept using those off and on, but occasionally switched it up with other soft plastics. Tried my new Zaras, the smaller whopper plopper, spinners of different types, cranks, rattle traps, jigs... I threw every thing in my tackle box.
Then Connie caught two pretty dinks about 8" and 10", respectively.
So I switched back to the exact same worm she was using, which I'd already tried. Still no luck.

But in the end, SHE'S the one who got skunked. Literally!
I get off work before her, and our fishing hole is on her route home, so we were in separate vehicles since she just met me there. We were on our way home after fishing, I was in my car and she was in her SUV in front of me, another car in front of her.
The car in front of her almost hit a skunk. Connie said it was a very cute and pretty skunk, very young. But when it was narrowly avoided by the car up ahead of her, it jumped about six feet straight up in the air (I'm watching this happen from behind her), landed dead center in the opposite lane, and proceeded to spray like a little fire hose. She happened to be driving through it's line of fire, and it drenched the whole driver's side of her Traverse.

As many skunks that get hit around here, if someone were to formulate a "skunk soap", they could make a killing by selling it to the local car washes.

A pic of my first dinger after three strikes (YOU'RE OUT!).(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/19434a70157c1ecd8d000eb48a945d52.jpg)

Some other pics I've found, just for fun.
True story, the robbery in the pic below happened here in West Monroe at the Circle K where the middle boy's girlfriend works. Thankfully, she wasn't there when it happened. If it's hard to understand the caption, the robber actually lost $5 while robbing the store.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/00ba89e979ad813191cc2fba80012d62.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/5b98fc11d325a95eba2cee7b20b6ec58.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/9a72bcd57e7e7b1198119fea0ae9d528.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/0bf399108c7570de4431c2504ef23b48.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/d6da6062e7cd93084c7993345c3b5547.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/b77bf3ae423e38fbbd4b9c68d552dca7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/e1a42b426667f77041fbc838110bda5d.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/a44d37a81642823464bc5435a85bfdd1.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171026/4aa744086e2d81fd654f1c0e9b2ea285.jpg)

Greetings to everyone,
Clear skies temps in the low 80's for Central Texas today.  Suppose to be in the low 30's in the morning  and Saturday morning  :surrender:  Another fun filled day at school today  ~shade  Sure will be glad when Friday gets here  8)

Lip; Tks for the OJ brother hope things are going well for ya.

Rodney; I haven't taken the time yet to hit the water after work yet.  The wife is fixing to leave for Alaska here soon I'm spending as much time with her as possible.  The Daughter In-Law called her and asked her to come up for a month to watch Bailey and Owen.  So she's leaving here next week for a month of baby sitting our Grand kids.  I'm going to try and hit the water while she's gone.

SHC; I see you got a certificate from Lip  ~read  Better sharpen them hooks up brother.  A short fish is better than a Skunked Trip  ;)

Guys you all have a pleasant evening and tight lines if your out on the water.

We haven't reached freezing yet.  ~sweat Wow you can get in a lot of fishing in a month  lo lo I know you will miss her when she is gone. TGIF!!! 37 here, headed to 64, sunny! I have to have the condensate pump on the furnace replaced because it's shooting water everywhere but the sink where it's supposed to. ~rant ~xyz
SHC, your story reminds me of when I was a kid, I used to shoot skunks, farmers hated it, their fields stunk to high heavens. lo lo ~shade Thanks for the cartoons, a chuckle right now is nice.
Donald, it's time to call in the varmint hunters, these little thugs really need to be taught a lesson!!! Make them be tackle dummies for the football team!!! Sorry you have to be a bachelor for a while but you'll gaining some fishing time!!
Lip, it sure is getting chilly in the morning now, as I get older the more I like it balmy, low 60s in the morning, 70-75 for a high, oh well, after 72 years I should be used to it.
Have a great weekend!!!

I don't mind the skunk certificates! As much as I fish, in the limited areas I have access to, and with my skill and experience, I'm likely to head home empty handed more often than not!

It can be kind of like hunting. I used to hunt like it was my religion. The only deer I've ever killed was with my old truck.
Dove, and squirrel probably numbering in the thousands, duck and rabbit easily in the hundreds.
Only deer was at about 0400, coming off the ramp onto highway 64 on the north side of Pittsboro NC. My (now ex) wife hollers "DEER!" I hollered "WHERE?" the truck hollered "WHAM!".
It was a great big doe. Knocked my headlight out and dented the bumper.

And just like hunting, I still love fishing! I just hope I never hit a fish with my car, that means I've got bigger problems than a dent and busted headlight.

Finally got my Frankenreel running right. Never could figure out why I kept getting backlash after backlash. Yesterday I had to pick my daughter up from school and take her to the doctor. We got home and I had some spare time so I went to looking it over again. I noticed when I pointed it straight up, I could hear some clattering when turning the handle. So I put my ear to it and tracked it down to the left plate.

Lo and behold, whoever built this thing put the wrong sized bearing in it. The spool spindle steps down to a smaller diameter to fit into the left bearing, but the bearing was sized to fit the fatter portion, leaving the tip of the spindle just rattling around in the bearing.

Slapped a new set of bearings in it, tied on a worm (no hook) and 1/4 weight, grabbed Connie's little yorkie and went out in the backyard. Made a ton of practice casts with it, not a single backlash, and had a ton of fun watching that little pound and a half vicious killer stalking the worm through the high grass and pouncing on it! Those 4.66 gears are perfect for teasing her with. I think that's the most fun I've had with that spoiled little turd!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171027/de091547c69904f170c976a018608e58.jpg)

My kitchen sink has been leaking for a long time and we have the new faucet for it but Diana thinks she can replace it so I have to wait till she gets around to it or I would of already had someone over to do it. The water also leaks out from the garbage disposal when you run the water. She thinks she can replace that also but I'm afraid she will get shocked cause it's hardwired to the box under the sink. I have a tub under there catching the water till we can get that fixed.  lo lo SHC glad you got the backlash figured out and fixed. The little yorkies are full of energy and boy can they run fast. My fishing buddy John has 3 of them. Donald here's some fresh

Yeah, same here.
But I noticed something when I visited Wyoming in June 2014. No skeeters, no spiders, no ants, no creepy crawlies of any kind except those beetles that are destroying the forests...
Then I built a snow man. In June. Wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

That Curado K is so close I can almost taste it. I may have mentioned I'm selling my youngest son's dirt bike since he's outgrown it. I was going to put the money towards a Yamaha YZ 125, a two stroke of a size we can both enjoy.
But since he's been acting a turd in school I've decided to put the money towards fishing gear, the Curado at the top of the list.
Anyway, just talked to a fella who wants to come get it Sunday. If he follows through, I'll be the proud new owner of another Shimano come Monday morning! My preferred tackle shop opens at 0600, right about the same time I'm driving past on my way to work :)

The boy is getting his act together, and quickly, but he's on super thin ice and can forget having another dirt bike any time soon.

Wooo! May be getting that reel even sooner than expected! The guy wanting the bike decided to go ahead and come get it this evening.
So, curado, then clothes, shoes, boots, and I'm sure there's a hundred other things that are gonna eat up the money.

Yeah, I had to rethink my priorities. Was going to get the reel, a nice rod to go with it, and a canoe.
But now it's reel, the other necessities, and just a decent rod. Academy's having a big sale on rods right now though, so I may make out better than I'm hoping for.

Title: Re: Oct Bassing and BS'n
Post by: SteelHorseCowboy on October 28, 2017, 05:07:04 PM
I did! I just picked it up a few minutes ago!
Right before I picked it up, I found a pair of work boots in Ross and the girl found some jeans and a couple of shirts. Then we got my new reel, went to a costume shop to pick up this $5 mask to complete my son's costume.

Now I'm in Walmart myself! The bathroom here is much cleaner than Target. I needed to sit down and rest, and look up what sort of replacement bulb to get for the Traverse's brake light.

Oh, I checked out Target's fishing section!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171028/3ec8fd353c0056be491854e3f4711b3c.jpg)

And needed to sit down and rest in Target. I'd be hard pressed to ever take the girl shopping again. Found a little spot at the TV display where they had rows of chairs, so I watched some commercials.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171028/2e7d0aebeb7f10a23c13435f6fb13b79.jpg)

So now, a brake light bulb, drawers for the boy and boots if they got 'em... and I think that's it!
I think I won't even have a chance to try out that Curado today.

I have no idea what the girl's deal was today. We always end up waiting for the women folk, but it's really no more than the "five more minutes!" that men always hear. These two say "five more minutes!" and that's my cue to start the car and have another smoke before hitting the road.
Today our daughter took TWO... FREAKING... HOURS! To get ready to leave the house.
At JC Penny, she spent twenty minutes in the dressing room with two flippin shirts.

Quite frankly, I was starting to get peeved. Junior and I explored the whole mall in the amount of time it took her and her mom to visit 3 stores and her to decide she didn't like anything they had.
I'm very glad it was a whole family outing. Connie isn't one who likes to "just shop", but she doesn't mind it. So we split up in pairs. At target, junior was playing some of the video games on display while I sat and watched commercials.

TVs sure have come a long way. It don't show good in that pic, but those hockey players looked freakin real y'all! The crappy little 15" on my desk that I only keep for video games is so fuzzy that we don't even play video games. It mostly collects dust. I do have a pretty slick laptop, but it don't hold a candle to these screens.

I unboxed the Curado! It's now mounted and spooled. I decided to forgo getting another rod for now, so I switched things around again. The Caenan is now on the Black Max rod, I did that a few days ago and it performs well on it, and the Curado is on the 7' Vigilante. I practiced some pitching from my chair in the living room, tossing a rubber spider (halloween decoration) to the far side of the dining room.
Took me a few minutes to get the hang of it, it's a technique I've only tried a handful of times. I've just never needed it.

Speaking of rubber spider halloween decorations...
I've put one on a hook. I figure a rubber spider on a hook don't sound any dumber than a rubber worm on a hook. Wonder if it'll catch anything?

Good morning to everyone,

Clear skies 36dgrs here for the start of the day in Central Texas. Its suppose to be in the mid 70's by this afternoon.  We're off to church here in a few minutes.  I think we're heading over to Olive Garden for lunch afterwards but not for sure.  I'm going to put some chalk around our windows this afternoon.  The wife informed me that she seen some water on one of the inside ledges last week.

SHC; I don't shop at Target for a lot of reasons.  IMO they have the worst sporting good sections I've ever seen.  Tks for sharing the shopping trip with us also  ;)  I've had a few of those in my time also.

Lip; The wife flies out next week and will return just after Thanksgiving.  We're flying back up there for Christmas this year also.  I get to see a White Christmas once again.  How's the ear infection coming along?

Rodney and everyone else have a pleasant Sunday.  Tight lines if you're heading out to the water.

Good morning all!! 43, raining, cloudy, high winds expected, possible flooding, going to be 2 or 3 days like this. Got out for a bit yesterday morning, 3 bass, 2 on a Ned rig, 1 on a small crank, 7 or 8 nice perch including several jacks on the same gear, they forgot they're not bass. lo lo Spent a couple of hours to get 2 spinning reels to work right, I'd been having some issues with them, one is a Johnny Morris  that I bought as a clearance sale. The reel had issues from day one, I should have taken it back but I stuck it on a shelf, I tried to use this year, it went back on the shelf, yesterday I finally spent time with it. The drag disks had enough grease for 10 reels and one part was put in wrong, took a bit but I finally figured it out, one little change and it works like a champ now. ;D I'm slowly upgrading my equipment and I thought I would trade them when BPS has their next sale like that but don't need to now, money goes toward other stuff!! ;D :)
Have a great day, stay dry and warm!!!

Morning Rodney and glad you were able to get out for a little while and catch some fish.  ~c~ ~c~ Glad you got that Johnny Morris spinning reel to work right. I have a  Johnny Morris Elite bait caster and I love mine (http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/922/iioPP8.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/pmiioPP8j) I use it for just about everything cause I'm cheep and only have one  lo lo Hope you don't get to wet up there. Did you get that leaking condensate pump plugged up to stop the leak till you can get it replaced? Hope you have a nice day and you got anything cooking on the smoker today?

I went out this morning and didn't catch a blaming thing. Again. Same as last time, there was fishes all around, hopping and popping, shad tearing up bugs, bass tearing up shad, and nothin hittin a dang thing I'm throwing, no matter what I'm throwing.

The new reel is a work of art.
I did manage to find something to complain about though. The brake adjustment knob. It's tiny, has tiny numbers, stiff to turn, and it's on the bottom. Beyond that? Well worth the money.

I wanted the HG with 7.?:1 ratio, but the only one in town was the XG with 8.5:1. So what the heck, right?

I did notice a difference in effort to turn this high geared reel vs it's lower geared cousin Caenan. But the much longer handle off set that, and the buttery smooth retrieves made the skunk fest a joy!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171029/db8c94a86859cd178b619e6cb97e74a1.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171029/c0fc0bb8375a9e414d434e9ef3ad0b01.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171029/309f144e4a908ecda5e86a9aacdc612c.jpg)

Somehow I knew this was coming before I even read his entire post.  ~roflmao

I went out this afternoon and almost fell short myself throwing a large swimbait like a idiot. I grabbed a frog and boated me one 16" and went back to the stupid swimbait. Of course I didn't even get a nibble on the swimbait. I wasn't happy with the color choice I got and it irritates me that I didn't get the ones I wanted. I didn't have any confidence before I threw it all evening and I still don't. I'm gonna get the Pearl White ones and I think I will have a chance then.

IT'S MONDAY!!! YEEAAA!!! A WHOLE BRAND SPANKY SQUEAKY CLEAN WEEK!!! Ok, that's over! lo lo 42 headed to 49, winds some gale force, cloudy, sunny when it's not cloudy, I hadn't planned to go fishing based on the weather forecast. lo lo Won't be many leaves left after today!!
Lip, they had to replace a fitting on the condensate pump, they charged us for a normal service call. I was told by the installers to put some bleach in the pump once a month to stop algae growth, the service guy thinks that's what ruined the fitting, to only put the bleach in at the beginning of the heating season and at the end. I don't have any JM baitcasting reels, just the 1 spinning reel, which I want to try out, think I'm going to like it. ;D :)
Donald, did you have a good day watching football? It was a good day to rest here with all the rain we got, a cold wet day that reminds you winter isn't far off! :(
SHC, nice looking reel there, from the reviews you have many years of good use!! ;D
Steve Target makes our Wally Worlds look like tackle stores and they don't have much. lo lo
Have a great day, stay warm!!

Hey Rodney and Donald I tried something to eat tonight that I haven't had since my cancer treatment. I put it off far as long as possible just in case I didn't like it anymore. I cooked up 3 lbs of bacon and after I tasted a couple of strips I ate about half of it. (http://imageshack.com/a/img923/4313/dplfzR.gif) (https://imageshack.com/i/pndplfzRg) Note to self put Bacon back on the list again for my next trip to the store.  ;D

Good evening guys,
Clear skies with the temps 47 / 79 dgrs for the day here in Central Texas.  Another day at work the little knot heads actually behaved today  :)  They'll more than likely makeup for it tomorrow ~shade

Lip:  ~c~ ~c~ ~c~ Thanks great news buddy  :food :food :food  I love me some bacon sandwiches, bacon in the salads and just plain ole bacon  right out of the skillet or bake sheet ~shade  Tks for the OJ this morning also it hit the spot.

Top; Buddy tks for sharing the humor with us  ;)

SHC; See you got another certificate   ~read  don't know if congrats are in order or not  :-\  Hey when you team fish the odds are in your favor of not skunking out.  I team fish just about every trip when I'm out.  There have been days when Carl saved my bacon and me like wise his  :)  Even if their short fish they still count on getting the skunk out of the boat  ;)  Keep at it brother there will be days when you can load up and other days not so.

Rodney; Tks for the update on the leaking situation.  Glad you were able to get things fixed.  Congrats on the catching too  ~c~  Yes sir it was an enjoyable after noon watching the Cowboys and Redskins   :)  Its always a better day / week when the 'Boys' have a win  ~c~

Steve; Congrats on the catching buddy.  You still on vacation?    How big a Swimbait you throwing?  While Pre-fishing for Fishing for Freedom and during the event itself I threw a 5 1/2" Strike King Shadalicious in the "woops"y Shad color.  I caught fish on it although this time around most were short ones.

To everyone have a very relaxing evening and a better day tomorrow.

Evening Donald and glad them little knot heads behaved today. 47* was a little cool for you. Yelp just plain ole bacon right out of the skillet onto the bake sheet to sop up some of the grease then on to my plate. I was out of tomatoes so just ate straight bacon.  ;D Hope you have a good day at school tomorrow and is the Mrs getting her stuff together for her trip yet?

Good morning ya'll!! Bacon!! Did somebody say Bacon!! Bacon, nectar of the gods!!! Everything goes better with bacon!!! Bacon goes better with bacon!!! Hickory smoked, cherry smoked, oak smoked maple sugar smoked, apple wood smoked, you name it it's good!! Back to reality. :( 40 headed to a balmy 44(break out the speedos) windy, high winds, cloudy, sunny when it's not cloudy, ugh! :'( Rained again last night. Not fishing today, maybe tomorrow.
Lip, sounds like your taste buds are coming back, good deal!!! ;D :) :toot: :toot:
Donald, the little angels acted like little angels? Who said the age of miracles is over!!! Hopefully they are turning over a new leaf!!
Top, thanks for the humor!!!
SHC, if you don't go fishing you won't get skunked, nor will you catch any fish, I hate to think how many times I was skunked or only caught 1 before I started catching on, after several years of tournament fishing I would get the smelly critter once in a great while, it's just part of the game. Beats sitting in a bar or home getting fat and lazy.
Have a great day!!

Title: Re: Oct Bassing and BS'n

The pawn shops, most of them are crap. Only one is decent as far as I'm concerned, and charge fair prices or at least decent. The rest will sell old, beat up, second/third/fourth hand JUNK for first hand prices. OR, they're actually retailers of new products and just do some pawn business kinda on the side and offer people pennies on the dollar for their stuff. That's about how PS's work to begin with, "buy low, sell high", but these folks here take it to a whole new level.

The boutique "juntique" stores are where it's at. They take in leftover yard sale and estate sale stuff, mostly donations only, then turn around and resell at yard sale/estate sale prices.
Best part is, most of them are run by middle class ladies who seem to mostly just be doing it to get out of the house. I don't think any of them make enough money to actually support their stores. And when "guy stuff" comes through, they just slap a tag on it without even checking eBay prices. Not trying to be "woops"ist there, I'm repeating the "guy stuff" comment from a woman who owns one of these stores. If it's not pretty to their regular clientele, meaning other middle/upper class ladies, they don't even care.

Good evening guys,

Its been mostly cloudy with the temps being in the low 60's around here today.  Matter fact it rained this afternoon for a little while ~rain  Busy day today cleaning the stadium, concession bldg. along with my routine daily tasking's ~sweat    While I was cleaning the concession bldg. restrooms and kitchen area the ISS ' In School Suspension' teacher had the kids out picking up trash :-*   The football field and from under the stadium stands got cleaned as well as the parking lot.  They did a good job helping out ~c~  I got a call from one of the principals about something being broken in one of the classrooms.  I went up to the classroom and the teacher informed me that 'She' knocked over her 'Large open container' of water onto the floor ^-^  I was fuming when she told me that she had an Open Container >:(  They get on the kids about that all the time.   As I was walking back to the Custodian's Closet to get the mop I stopped and changed my mind.   :-* I drug out the Wet / Dry Shop Vac instead.  I got back down to the classroom she was in the process of teaching some math I moved all the desks ( 8 ) of them from around the spill area ::)  I plugged in the shop vac turned it on (its loud) and I took my time vacuuming up the water ~shade    After cleaning up the mess I drove over to the Support Services Warehouse to drop off some folding chairs.  I walk past my Supervisor's office there she is dress up like a pink rabbit  :-\   I got the chairs stored away and stopped back in and BS'd with my supervisor for a couple minutes.  We chatted and I asked her if she knew what I was dressed up as  :-\   She told me no and I told her I was dressed up as an AzzHole  :P  She just started laughing as I walked out of the office.  The rest of the day was uneventful  :)

Rodney; Sounds like Winter is trying to make an appearance up in your parts.  Hope you get out tomorrow and wet that line.  Great words of wisdom about fishing there buddy.  Its so true too.

Lip; Tks for the OJ, it always hits the spot first thing in the morning.  You fry up anymore bacon  :food    :-* Man that does sound good a bacon, tomato, lettuce toasted sandwich with some mayo and a Pepsi to wash it all down with :food

SHC; That's a nice looking outfit you got there.  We have LOTS of pawn shops around here in Central Texas.  There are lots of guns shops also.  I haven't been in any of them for a while.  There can be some great buys in there if you spend the time checking things out.

To everyone have a relaxing evening and a great day tomorrow.

SHC, here in central Florida I do very well hitting the pawn shops throughout central and north Florida.

Florida is a fishing state so the pawn shops here get a lot of fishing equipment brought in their doors. And a lot of it has been abused in saltwater or just plain abused period. And I use this to my advantage on a regular basis.

The key for me has been timing and persistence in searching through the stores as I travel.

So my point is pawn shops in some areas may not produce well, while in other areas it can be a goldmine.

Evening everyone and Donald sounds like you had a busy day at work today  ~sweat I think I would of started up the shop vac and handed it to the teacher to clean up her own mess that should of never happened in the first place and you could of used it as a teaching lesson to the kids in her class that in this world if you do what your not suppose to do there have got to be willing to clean up your own mess. >:D  lo lo Well most of the trick or treaters are gone and I'm tired from running back and forth between the kitchen helping Diana replace that leaking faucet on the kitchen sink that has been leaking for over a year.  lo lo and answering the doorbell passing out candy to the little and big kids who came by. Now time to set down and relax for a few. Next project is to replace the garbage disposal that leaks every time you turn the water on in the sink.  :surrender: This will be a little harder cause it's hardwired into the junction box under the sink. OH well that's life. Hope everyone has a nice evening. FFF you found anymore good deals in them pawn shops lately?

FFF you found anymore good deals in them pawn shops lately?

A few Penn SS spinning reels and some older saltwater reels and rods with Alps roller guides which are in demand in this area so resale is strong for them. I could sell just the guides and make my money back and then some. I recently picked up a $200 Abu Revo for $20 plus tax with a rod. Its a righty or I would give it some time on the water. I just put it up for sale in the shop along with some baitcast rods. Right now there is a demand for spinning rods but I don't have any more of those to sell right now.

This is a tough time for fishing gear in pawn shops in this area because there is a season when the equipment flows into pawn shops and a season when fishing equipment flows out of pawn shops. Right now is the in between stage, but over the winter gear will flow into the stores and selection will improve by early 2018.

Tight lines all! And good luck with that disposal Lip!

I haven't been in a pawn shop in years and your right that's how they work. Sound like them boutique "juntique" stores are the way to go and I know your not being "woops"ist that's just the way they are wiht guys stuff and that's good for us.  ;D
Way I look at it, if I were running a "man cave" type of shop and ended up with just a small handful of items no one's likely to buy because it doesn't suit my clientele, I'd probably do the same thing!

For fishing equipment in particular, pawn shops here aren't the best bet. There's not enough money in them according to several shop owners I've talked to. I visit one that tends to have a few odds and ends on hand, and I've heard rumor of another one over in Monroe.

The place I got that rod/reel combo and baseball bat? The storefront is an antique furniture store, with a side business in the back room selling dishware and cabinetry. There was one small corner in the back room where someone had dropped off some "guy stuff".

Afternoon guys. For your reading enjoyment, here's the bedtime conversation between my wife and I last night.

I was looking at bassboats on CL just for fun. I saw a new one and was looking it over when my wife says "And how are you going to afford that thing?!" "I could use my disability/retirement check." "Oh no, you're not wasting our money on that." "What about this one? It's red and sparkly?!..." "Oh, that's pretty! Yes, you can get that one then." "No, I don't think so.." "Well why not? I told you it was pretty." "You don't buy a boat because it's pretty, you buy it to catch fish. When's the last time you saw a fish accessorize?!" Lol

Yeah, we have some weird conversations sometimes.

There was a discussion about weather or not fish feared boats or were attracted to boats etc. Someone said we should paint fish on the bottom. Would that be accessorizing?  lo

That's sort of wanting to know why paint or color the top side of a top water bait since the fish can't see the top of the bait.  lo lo
