Title: Rocky Gorge
Post by: acwatkins on November 18, 2017, 04:56:05 PM
I FINALLY DID IT! I got this amazing land locked striper today. By far the best fight of my life and my favorite catch to date. I didn't have any way of measuring it but it weighed in at 21lbs 15oz. That's 22lbs in my book haha. Caught on an Alabama rig with an 8' heavy rod and 15lb flouro. I honestly thought it was going to spool me it was taking so much drag. I still can't stop smiling. Thankfully there was a boater close by who came over to take the full body picture. Tight lines!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171118/691b3a6f0925d313f3e0e40f416046bc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171118/92a7e7f4a3526224be99c1dd70effcb3.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171118/6a9fb4b01036bc9e766a347487c54801.jpg)

AC, Good fish.  Almost beat my 25.6.  The guys that have never caught one of these have no idea how strong they are.  I sure enjoyed fishing for the in Norfork Lake in Arkansas.  I didn't like dragging that Arig.  I mostly fished live bait.

Wow!!! That's nice. I just get bass at Rocky Gorge so it's pretty cool to see someone catch something that big in there. I've heard of big stripers in there but thought it was just folklore. lo

Nice one AC!  I hear them bustin baitfish outside Scott's Cove but never seem to be close enough to cash in on any. Caught one there once that wasn't big enough to brag about. Good job Man!

Thank you all! I've been fishing the Gorge since I was a young kid and I've always seen pictures of fish like this. It's an amazing feeling to finally get one. I hope you all can get one at some point!

AC there are probably a whole lot more of them out there.....they should be starting their winter migration towards the dam and the deeper water, so they use the main channel like a highway. The WSSC used to stock them in the 70's, they had a hatchery for raising them on Brighton Dam at one time but there was a catastrophic failure at the hatchery, so they lost a lot of their brood stock which came from Santee-Cooper Reservoir in South Carolina. I believe the DNR has been stocking them in both reservoirs for some time. Not sure where you nabbed that one, but the main channel is a good place to start this time of year.
